    I painted some of these originals and we had very limited time through working on so many miniatures for many different products in the studio at Nottingham at the time and a lot of the red ones were my painting. All the best, Darren Matthews :)

      @@SnakeWorksStudio It was a long time ago and painting has moved on a lot since but it was good to be there at the start of something that became very big and to be a small part of it. At the time we only had very limited amount of paints and often very limited time to paint the miniatures in for the adverts in White Dwarf and a lot of the colour schemes were often left down to the painter but still trying to keep to the colour schemes of the 4 Chaos gods that were still being developed at the time. I still have fond memories of some of the miniatures and painting them

    I love them, they were much more creative and nightmarish in my opinion. They remind me of medieval art depictions of devils.

      If you get the chance, download slaves to darkness and the lost and the damned on free PDF.
      The sculpts were circular, the artists drew the sculpts, and the sculptors based their models on the art.
      That's what led to the grim dark style (with a heavy Blanche influence) 😀

    I quite like the "Traitor Terminators"... but, really, the old 'Wheelchair of Doom' Blood Slaughterer is a great example of 90's jank.
    Edit: the "Face in the Belly" guy is in the blue catalogue as a Tzeentch renegade, "headless 2".

    IIRC, the 4 chaos gods thing wasn't fully solidified until the Realm of Chaos books were published in 1989 & 90. Before that it was just plain ol' chaotic Chaos.

    Fun video, I still have a majority of these minis, I also have a slew of the slan ones which make up my slan army. My favorite one is not shown, I call it the alien renegade. Same type of armor, however this fig has an alien looking head. I love these figs and I'm blessed to have most of them.

    Because horns were easy to make. If I were to write some excuse-fluff for _why_ they have horns, I reckon the best explanation would be that they are sensor arrays.
    I had a few of those when I was a kid; I remember I had the guy with the chainsaw-disc tail (attached to his back) and a couple of the ones carrying bolters. The heavy weapons ones were expensive, but I did have two or three of them.
    I like the idea of "Chaos Renegades" as being random mercenary/pirate space marines, not particularly attached to any chaos space marine chapter.
    The blue one, I remember seeing in a White Dwarf magazine and I thought he had a frosty ice-world look.

    The best chaos god in some ways is Nurgle as he's actually a pretty chill dude. Apart from the whole plagues bit. Otherwise, it's Khorne, because he keeps it nice and simple. Blood, skulls, that's it. None of these complex plots that make Kingdom Hearts look like The Very Hungry Caterpillar, none of the whatever it is they can let Slaanesh actually get away with these days.

      @@SnakeWorksStudio Yeah, undivided core with some berserkers and a pile of death guard from the partworks, but looking at the new World Eaters approaching, and the Khorne combat patrol for Daemons is also fortunate :D

      @@SnakeWorksStudio Sadly no, I got into 40k in back 1990 and I think GW had just phased out the original Traitor Marines for new, less weird designs. My main area of interest was the Eldar, jumping in at issue 127 of White Dwarf, I was fascinated by the painted examples of the then very new Aspect Warriors and such.

    Some of these marines have pretty funny animal mutations, insect-like, organic, almost bio-mechanical look. On those years I think GW were deciding the look for Chaos and Tyranids and some elements would work nice together. An example is the old Chaos Dreadnought, with that biomechanical look and that huge alien-like head, similar to modern Zoanthrope. Special mention for that renegade with a sort of shrunk chaos dread head. Finally they decided to split both ways, keepin´ the biomechanical look for Xenos, and giving a look closer to gothic loyal marines for chaos, with the only organic addition of daemon mutations

    • @SnakeWorksStudio
      @SnakeWorksStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @nachofernandezcomics5238
      @nachofernandezcomics5238 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SnakeWorksStudio Yeah I do ^^ It´s cool, it gives a lot of variations to chaos space marines. I think the next wave of chaos miniatures based on Jes Godwin designs stablished definitely the look for these troops, but would be cool keepin´some of those heads and limbs as options for modern chaos marines
