It's right only if they secure permission from and pay an appropriate remuneration to his family/descendants.. As much as possible, it should be avoided.. But if they do decide to go ahead, permission from his immediate family and an appropriate royalty/remuneration ar the bare minimum.. And also they should explicitly mention it at the start..
Actors who are already on the other side should be left alone. Using their faces, voices, lacks their involvement, their talent, skills... Just feels wrong anyway I look at it. Families making money on it also feels wrong
I got a baaaaad DEI feeling about this one. Most likely it will be on par with Star Wars 7, a full on nostalgia bait to hide the made up bad story. Please please prove me wrong, please...
Even though I would really love Christopher Lee's voice in more LOTR works that are good and maybe he would have like that himself as well, I just can't agree with it. There are a million minor reasons why he could possibly deny working on a project himself, if he was alive, if he didn't like or believe in a project, if he had input that he thought was ignored, if he didn't like the people behind it etc. We just can't possibly know and we should never presume. But basically, what it comes down to, is a worker's rights to only do the work he wants to do, a person's rights to chose their actions and corporations not being able to profit off of a worker's work and a person's likeness (& voice) for eternity without paying anyone a cent for it. And what I would hate most is for a LOTR project to usher this new exploitative era.
If they have permission from the family, I don't mind if they use his voice. I'm more concerned about The Hunt for Gollum 2026: I'm fed up with AI-CGI recreating living actors when they were younger, rather than (as you said) giving a chance to young actors. I refused to watch "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" because that was not Harrison Ford. "The Last Crusade" had none other than River Phoenix playing Young Indy! I could also mention "Space Cowboys", where Toby Stephens (Maggie Smith's son) plays a young Clint Eastwood, or "Closing the Ring", with Gregory Smith as a young Christopher Plummer. Those were creative solutions! Thanks and much love.

I would rather they recast but in the end it doesn’t matter what we think because the estate holds all the cards and will make the decision.
