    In this video we unbox, install and test out this add-on light kit for the Dewalt DWS779 Miter Saw. This saw DOES NOT come out of the box with a laser or light, so this was a much needed add-on. I'm really excited to finally have this, so I had to make a video to share it with you! If you have one of these please share your thoughts down in the comments. And THANK YOU for watching!

    I made the mistake of using their video for the actual install. Yours was much clearer with close-ups. Theirs was filmed from 200 feet up and you could not make out any detail especially running the Black wire next to the guard and making that neutral connection. I may go back and add tape to mine since I didn't like the way the connectors stuck out of the vinyl covering.

      @@TheToughGuysTV got it installed and yes the video definitely helped. Works great and the savings is worth doing the DYI. Thanks for the great tips. I have unfortunately been dealing with kickback problems with this saw. I had a fixed-position DeWalt chop saw for 15 years and never ever once dealt with kickback. I am doing something wrong and I think it might be I’m not lowering the blade to it’s full-down position after I pull it back and start pushing into the wood for my cuts. If anyone has any tips on why am am experiencing it with this saw in particular I’d appreciate it! And what I can do to prevent kickback...I’d appreciate it! I have an Irwin 60-tooth that I swapped out for the factory DeWalt 32

    Nice video, thank you. I have this light on my other chop saw and you will never go back once you use it. You can even see the individual teeth on the shadow for even more fine cutting. My terminals on the wiring harness were tough too. I stuck a straight bladed screwdriver in to twist the female end open just a little and voila, easy peasy.

    Thanks' for the video, I just got my upgrade kit and the little piece of paper that has the link to the website for the install video goes nowhere.
    I Googled it and found your video; works like a charm.

    I did my upgrade three years ago and it's been awesome ever since, I've recommended this upgrade to those with the DWS779 saw, I think the upgrade kit is the only thing that distinct the difference between the 779 and 780.

      @@TheToughGuysTV It's a neat add on, but Dewalt isn't stupid. You really think they're selling a carbon copy of the 780 minus the drop light in the 779? The 779 internally is not the exact same saw as the 780. If that were the case, why would anyone buy the 780 for more than 200 dollars more than what they can pay for the 779?

  • @sk22ng
    @sk22ng 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just bought the 779 but only because the 780's were not in stock at the big box stores around my area. My 12-year-old slider seized the motor bearing on the belt side mid cut and I had to get an immediate replacement in order to resume work. I have been cutting on the 799 for a couple of days now and don't in any regret this purchase, especially considering the relative low cost I paid of $399+tax. For the most part It has the same specifications as the 800. After watching this video I'll be satisfied adding this light kit and calling it a day feeling like I got something close to the 800 and for around 50 bucks less once the smoke clears. Besides the 800 having a cast aluminum knob for the bevel setting lock rather than 799's plastic one, what are the other differences between the two? DeWalt may be able to justify the extra cost after all.

    • @TheToughGuysTV
      @TheToughGuysTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not aware of any other differences. Seems to me the 779 plus the light kit upgrade is a big way to save money! I hope you enjoy the saw!

  • @mescott28
    @mescott28 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Might want to check the other screws on the power switch while you’re there. The other 3 connections on mine were not tight. I got 2+ full turns on each, getting them good and snug (no, not vein-popping tight). The red wire I got almost 4 full turns. I’ve only had the saw ~ 2 months, so seems strange that the connections wouldn’t be tight.

    • @TheToughGuysTV
      @TheToughGuysTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good notes for sure!! I suppose the screws could loosen from vibration but hopefully Dewalt knows how to use locktite 😂 Thanks for watching!

    Just installed the light and everything went smoothly. Yes, the piggyback wire connection was a pain in the neck, but it came out alright and amazingly enough, every screw that I took out went back where it belonged, so no duct tape or wire ties were used...

    Dewalt missed the opportunity to make these as upgrades. That would be cool if dewalt would release little part upgrades to stationary tools. Just so you don't have to upgrade the entire tool. I understand that is not how business works, but it would still be neat. Lol

    • @nole8923
      @nole8923 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wasn’t a mistake. It was meant to make you buy the more expensive 80 model and force you to do without if you didn’t. They obviously make more profit on the more expensive model 80 because the light guide part of the saw is much cheaper for Dewalt than the price we pay for the light guide modification. They knew exactly what they were doing by not having an extra add on light option. As a matter of fact I would order it ASAP from mtoolparts as soon as possible because Dewalt may try to pull some legal chit on them about selling the add on.
