In viewport 2.0 fix realtime self shadow issue on meshes. The main problem is that Maya doesn't save this attribute to the file (stupid), so when you open it, you have to step by step re-adjust all the meshes to set this attribute (you can't edit multiple meshes at once with the same attribute - game engines can (also stupid)).
Back face culling is so you do not select the back face of the cube.
In modeling and sculpting you are correct, when rendering it tells the render engine not to render the faces which normals aren't facing the camera
