Excellent video. I've modified mine as well but as much as this non engineer can. I am most amazed at how your 1000+ mile scooter looks nearly brand new while mine looks like it has gone through a minefield. Really appreciate the love you have and sharing your expertise!
Great video and very interesting. Hands down the best MAX G30 mod video on the internet. Not only adding new parts but some seriously good mods too. Great work man, loved it :) Enjoy and ride safe.
@@Nonbock I just bought the 48v max pack external kit and did the installed to my scooter. I reflash the firmware software provided by my max mods and notice the scooter lost a tremendous amount of torque but did gain a little bit more speed at top end. Is your scooter experiencing the same thing? And what reflash did you installed on your scooter after the 48v conversion? Thanks
New to scooters today and the mods are crazy I'm seeing. Love the build. Bought the s40 today on amazon since they were going at $450 and making a parts list after seeing this.
I watched a good video. I also replaced all 16 of the existing bearings with precision bearings in the same monorim product for the front suspension, replaced them with exa hydraulic coil shocks, and installed a street bar by myself instead of a damper.
Recently hit 1300 miles on my segway. I use it for my only means of transport. It's been reliable since I unboxed it. At 1200+ miles....I think it was around 1240ish...I replaced the whole front tire due to wear. $77...with shipping. Didn't have tools to just swap the rubber. Use it daily. I can literally say....the scooter saved me from being homeless. I am able to commute to work, which allows me to have a job and an apartment. After 4 years of being homeless, and walking everywhere.....with physical ailments.. it saved my life. Undoubtedly changed my life.
Man for sure loves his scooter. Will be getting myself g30 max with gen 2 motor and going to put SHFW on it. The best upgrade you can have besides custom ESC.
Thank you for such a detailed video on this model. I've recently purchased a G30P. I hope I can utilize some of the information you've offered here to modify mine
I recently had two different types of tubeless tires put on and I switched to the same grips as you and it feels alot better on turns . Suspension upgrade is next ❤
The battery has 15ah capacity added for driving assistance to increase the mileage to about 80-90km, and with custom firmware, the current speed is 36km/h and the rear-wheel suspension is being used by myself.
Although I must admit that I’m also guilty of operating with just one hand I’ll strongly recommend that both hands should be on the handlebars at all times. It’s just not worth it. If you have to take off one of your hands for whatever reason just stop for a moment until you are done and take off again. While it can be annoying to come to a stop a few times during a ride in reality it won’t increase your travel time in a meaningful way. Having an accident on the other hand will cost you that at minimum. Scooters are dangerous enough as it is (mainly because of riding position) but at least with a firm grip on both handlebars you can have enough control to lessen the severity of any accident. Trust me - the last thing you want is to hit some nasty pothole, collide with something or someone. Actually even the tiniest patch of dust or sand can cause a skid you’ll remember for a long time.
I love my es3 but also hated some stuff to it. I was on Budget when I bought my ES3 got it for like $120 like new from someone who bought it but didn’t like it so let it sit. But one thing I hated was the electronic brakes I wished it had a disk or drum brake to help have more braking power. Didn’t like not having suspensions in the rear either So I bought a pneumatic 8in wheel with drum brakes and drilled 3 holes on my scooter to fit a lever brake with the drum brakes and wheels so much better Other thing I hated was how short the handle bars were, as some who goes cycling having proper bar length was important so I 3d printed an extension and bought new bicycle grips also and added a customer peak design Mount also.
With the Monorim rear suspension I notice while using the stock 6" eye shock the handle bar hook did not line up with the rear hook. I modified it to 5.5" and perfecto!!! in lines up
You're brake is supposed to be positioned that way because you're supposed to keep a grasp on the bar while you're breaking, only 1 or 2 fingers on the brake lever, because if you hit a bump it could knock the handle bar from your grip. The higher end scooters have short brake levers so you can't squeeze it on your fingers
Nice mods, compliment. If u lower the front suspension the ground clearance is really poor i feel. I just added one that increases it a little and i like it but makes an unintended wheely more likely
I have some steep hills near me and with the stock battery I slow down to 8 MPH. After the additional battery, it doubles the speed to 16 MPH on the same hill.
You said the stock suspension came with a spring and a tube but I thought there was never any suspension on the G30 Max until now with the G2 that just came out.
Fantastic mods, I still slightly disagree with the 48 Volt mod for several reasons, but that's my opinion. I don't like risking overheating and burning up the motor, burning connectors, adding weight, increasing charger carryon weight, going through tires faster, etc. The Front and rear suspension were pretty interesting, but that steering damper could be a lifesaver I'm sure.
I got the same exact setup as yours but when installing the front monorim I couldn’t use both black washers because I couldn’t for the lynchpin and ended up with only silver ring sent by monorim but now I have extreme front stem wobble!
One of the youtube videos on the installation of the front Monorim explains which washers to use. I remember having an issue too but got it to work OK without any slop in the steering
Great video. Love the idea with the wondow to oberserve the interiors. Couple question: What are lengths of those shock absorbers that you use? I know that there are 150, 165 and 190 mm options. What I could see other people do is they put a 165 mm on the front suspension and 150 mm on the back. It seems like this also solves the problem of leveling the scooter. Another question is about folding the scooter. After the installation of the rear monorim suspension is it still possible to attach the clip which is on the handlebar to the monorim hook on your scooter? Cheers.
Both my shocks are 150mm, but the 160 on the front as you say should work great to lift it up and save all the modifications I did. Yes you can still fold the handle down and clip it to the monorim hook. You will have to twist the clip on the handlebar a little.
Just a heads up. The brake leaver is set that way for a good reason. You dont need to have all four fingers on the leaver to get most out of your brakes. Same as in the bike world. one to two fingers is enough. With four you are running risk of over streching your cable or damaging brake system.
That could be tricky. it is super stealthy because the motor is the rear wheel, no gears like on a hub drive bicycle. I have scared a lot of folks passing from behind even though I sound the bell to warn them. There's more wind noise than motor noise
First of all, thanks for the info sharing. May I ask more about your experience with the front suspension only? I will do some upgrades, but I'm not sure if I want a rear suspension. Is the rear suspension make a substantial difference? My guess is that the front could be a gamechanger, but the rear does not add so many values as the front when you upgrade the stock setup. What is your opinion about this?
You are correct in your thinking. I started with the front only and ran it like that for a while and I was happy with the modification. The air shock is important though, it makes the experience so much better and refined. However after adding the rear, it made a further improvement especially when hopping off curbs and on bumpy surfaces.

id love to know if its possible to attach extra battery to increase the range before running out of juice ? I dont rly care about better tork in hills or more speed, range is the most important for me.
The one brake lever has two functions, initial application applies regen braking from the rear wheel and the next is the front brake. Yes in an emergency you need all that it has and it is pretty good. Most of the time I'm in regen braking and hardly use the front brake.
I have most of these mods on mine as of late. I really want to raise the front as well. I'm not experienced with welding however - is the finished product as strong and able to take the force and impacts as before welding? Is that a consideration?
So to be clear you originally bought the monorim front SPRING suspension and then swapped for the air shock sourced on alibaba and it was a clean swap / perfect fit etc ?
Yes Justin, The 150mm length shock was a direct replacement for the original spring unit that came with the Monorim. Note that the air shock seals will stick when left unused overnight or longer. You have to bounce on the scooter to unstick them at the beginning of each ride. After unsticking, they are fine for the rest of the ride until it sits a while without use. Apply some oil to the shock shaft to reduce the sticking effect. (they advise that in the info that comes with them)
On the early design front suspension video you have seen, the front fender did not move up and down with the wheel so when the suspension compressed, the wheel would contact the fender and act like a sudden brake. The design now has a fender mount that goes up and down with the wheel and clearance remains constant. No longer an issue.
EXCELLENT video. Thanks. I tried a sharkset front suspension and found it to be useless. It made me consider a rear-only suspension setup. What do you think?
Question about the battery pack, can you still fold the scooter? I use the scooter often and always put it in my trunk. Just wanted to know if it still folded down normally. Thanks!
Nice mods Alex... well done! Just to let you know that Monorim offers the DMXE and MXRE series now with these same air shocks...unfortunately with single chamber only. Their front suspension is a twin shock system...do you think that might be a better option than a single shock? This will permit to pressurize less than with a single shock and it would be a redundancy security in the event of a shock failure. Cheers, Phil
Hi Phil, I am not 100% sure how the single chamber compares. My guess is that the dual chamber helps with top out damping, ie when the front wheel comes off the ground there may be a clunk noise as the shock goes to full extension on the single chamber unit.
A dual shock setup is redundant and not necessary in my opinion. The air shocks I have had for about 8 months now and they don't lose pressure at all. Very well made.
This is what I've been looking for! Thank you very much for this marvellous video. I'm going to buy the front suspension. By the way, did the air suspension came with an adjustment guide? How would I know which set up to use?
No, except for some pressure guidelines, mostly important to note that the larger chamber needs to be a higher pressure than the smaller one. I experimented with different pressures to get the best feel. As I recall 40psi in the large chamber and 30 in the small one. Note that the seals stick to the shaft after about a day of non use. You have to bounce the scooter to free up the seal then it will be fine for the ride.
Rear would be too soft with 40/30psi with my weight. It might be good with a light person. My best setting is 100/90psi on the rear. Front is good at 40/30. Note about the shocks, after sitting a couple of hours, the seals stick and you need to bounce one time on the scooter to free them up and they will be fine for the ride. You need to add a little oil to the shaft to lubricate the seals.
I have thought about it, but I find it pretty easy to glance over my shoulder without going off course. I also thought about a helmet mounted one, but they are a bit goofy.
i literally ride mine for kilometers hands free but our footpaths and roads in Perth australia., i've got plenty of video footage on this youtube account
I haven't added it all up but I estimate about $650 or so over the cost of the scooter. I did it one mod at a time though and spread the cost which made it less painful to the wallet
Yep interested in this too. I reckon it will add several extra kilos with the battery. Even at stock weight it's too heavy to comfortably carry more than a few metres and if you have to climb stairs you wont need a gym membership 😉
With all the weight you added it equals any gain you received from the extra battery, also brakes are same and the electric motor runs hotter now as well.
I purchased my Ninebot Max in September 2019 (pre-order before release), I wish I had purchased the reflective stickers a lot earlier. I can’t find them anywhere nearby, all out of stock. Does anyone have the link for the batter pack ?
The link for the battery is listed in the comments section
This is what I've been looking for! Thank you very much for this marvellous video. I'm going to buy the front suspension. By the way, did the air suspension came with an adjustment guide? How would I know which set up to use?
No, except for some pressure guidelines, mostly important to note that the larger chamber needs to be a higher pressure than the smaller one. I experimented with different pressures to get the best feel. As I recall 40psi in the large chamber and 30 in the small one. Note that the seals stick to the shaft after about a day of non use. You have to bounce the scooter to free up the seal then it will be fine for the ride.
@@Nonbock thanks a lot! Immensely helpful.
can you provide links to your modds at ebay or just names of them?
All the links are in the description
Thanks for an informative video , ride safe☯️
Thanks ✌️
How’s the rear set up 40psi,30psi
Rear would be too soft with 40/30psi with my weight. It might be good with a light person. My best setting is 100/90psi on the rear. Front is good at 40/30.
Note about the shocks, after sitting a couple of hours, the seals stick and you need to bounce one time on the scooter to free them up and they will be fine for the ride. You need to add a little oil to the shaft to lubricate the seals.
How many range do you have now ?
I would estimate 20 -25 miles (32 - 40 km) and that is mostly at full speed in sport mode.
Great modifications. Have you given any thought to adding a rear view mirror to the handle bars?
I have thought about it, but I find it pretty easy to glance over my shoulder without going off course. I also thought about a helmet mounted one, but they are a bit goofy.
i literally ride mine for kilometers hands free but our footpaths and roads in Perth australia., i've got plenty of video footage on this youtube account
Thx for sharing!
No problem!
Great work! But, how much did all of those mods cost?? ;) @alex dell?
I haven't added it all up but I estimate about $650 or so over the cost of the scooter. I did it one mod at a time though and spread the cost which made it less painful to the wallet
What is the overall weight of your scooter now?
I'll check and let you know
Yep interested in this too.
No, far from it. The performance gain by far outweighs the additional pounds.
How long have you had the battery pack installed?
I got the extra 12v battery last August and purchased the scooter in May. Both batteries are still strong as they were when new
I purchased my Ninebot Max in September 2019 (pre-order before release), I wish I had purchased the reflective stickers a lot earlier. I can’t find them anywhere nearby, all out of stock. I live in Belgium. Ofcourse I could buy some third-party reflective stickers in a local shop but those would never match my kickscooter as the original ones do.
Great modifications. I really love the G30 Max.
