    Cool Forgotten Weapons merch! shop.forgottenweapons.com
Today I've taken the FR-F2 to the range to try it out. I'm using the early French Army scope, an APX L806-04. This is a 3.85x optic basically modeled on the German WW2 ZF-4. It has a big simple German post reticle, and the -04 variation indicated that the BDC cam has been calibrated for 7.62mm NATO.

I don't think it is too hard to imagine Mr. Hayward - he probably feels as excited as you would expect to feel, in the same circumstance - and with Ian, it shows! 😄
I'm not sure if you are British - guessing by Avatar - and it really sucks that your Queen is a goddamn tyrant, who runs a Parliment of tyrants, and thinks all British Citizens are too stupid to know how to use firearms appropriately. We have the same problem in the US (mostly within our left wing Democrat political party, but Republican heroes like Ronald Reagan and other did plenty of damage too) - and it is a *constant* fight to keep our Right. I suppose that is how it goes...
If you are in Britain, and for those elsewhere in the world - I do hope that after all of this global madness and tyranny about The 'Rona is done, ya'all get to come visit again.
*We'd love to let your Culturally Appropriate our Constitutional Right!* - Great thing about America, even non-citizens get to share in our most cherished of Citizens' Rights, and Americans enjoy sharing.
See you on the other side of this global mess - it is going to be ugly for a few years, but I think most of us will be okay on the other side, and it is going to be great!

I own a Mas36 and a 36/51. The 36/51 is a safe wh*$e. It is in prestine condition and has not be used very much. I've only shot it a few times. The 36 however is a silvered, well used but still in good condition rifle. It is HIGHLY accurate. Capable of sub-minute with custom ammo. I've killed deer and hogs with the iron sights, killing one deer out to 180 yards and now use it as an elk rifle. With an S&K mount/Argos scope combo, consistantly hitting a 15" steel plate at 600 yards is well within the limitations of the rifle. It is easily capable of further distances.

I find that nearly any scope, with sufficient clarity and lighting is fine for long range if target discernment isn’t an issue. In fact I tend to shoot a bit better with lower power as the high magnification exaggerates the movement of the reticle to such a degree that I often overthink my shots. Nice video.

The old Weaver 330 scopes and series of 3/4" scopes actually had the windage rotated to the LEFT of the shooter perspective. Our more modern has the elevation on top and windage on the right, again, the old "sniper" scopes had the windage on the left and elevation on top. They pretty much had to be used with Kentucky windage since the adjustments on the Weaver was the big SCREW in the center and the outside ring was the set BUT it sure does NOT look like that! A lot of shooters do not know you loosen the set outside "ring" then adjust the slotted screw for wind/elev then tightened the set rings again. Pretty tough to do in combat. LOVE the French rifles and your channel my friend. The best channel around.

That Aussie F4 ammo is fantastic, buddy's got a bunch of the F1 5.56NATO and it's dead nuts consistent. I also really like the '80's Hirtenberger stuff, really consistent and good quality for surplus 7.62NATO ammo.

Actually Hirtenberger was not the best supplier in Austria!Little known Altmann factory ammo, was preferred by anybody, when shooting for precision! That company went bust even before Hirtenberger. Two suppliers for little Austria;not viable!

Again, I would love to see Ian team up with a historically minded handloader for some serious accuracy nerdery.
These vintage weapons are great but learning how to feed them by hand (especially the sniper bits) can be fascinating.
I had thought the lack of focus on accuracy was a dodge but it's clear the man can shoot.
I guess channel with lots of velocities and MOA measurements might not have the same draw...

I always thought this was a good looking rifle but didn’t realize how effective it could be until Henry & Josh wrung out the FR-F1 that Ian provided. I can see supplying a scope of this nature in the ‘50’s but there was much better glass available when the rifle was modified and rechambered in the 80’s. French procurement letting down the guys on the tip of the spear.

Scope adjusts about like the Soviet PSO-1 and equivalents, just with more screws holding it. Loosen the cap screw, adjust the turret, lock it back down.
And on the PSO, you can shoot it with the cap screw loose to adjust on the fly.
