The wired Ring doorbells (as well as wired Nest Hello doorbells) are great products. HOWEVER, they don't tell you upfront that these wired doorbells all have an internal non-user-serviceable battery. IF you will be using the doorbell with a mechanical chime, just be aware that at some point, the battery inside will fail. The internal battery on these units are used to provide temporary voltage to the doorbell unit when a mechanical chime is used. When someone presses the doorbell button, power is temporarily routed away from the doorbell to the chime inside the house. The battery keeps the doorbell powered for the 1-2 seconds while this happens. Over time, this small battery will be unable to deal with the voltage drop and your doorbell will lose power and reboot itself. If you don't rely on a mechanical chime or if you use the Ring wireless chime, than it won't be an issue. If you do use a mechanical chime, depending on your environment (which includes usage rate, weather, temperature, etc.), the doorbell will stop function properly at some point in time. For most users, it seems to be somewhere between 1-3 years.
@@pagodad8079 Maybe, maybe not. I have lived with the gf near 3 years and she has had her Ring doorbell cam before I was in the picture and its still going.
I upgraded from pro 1 to pro 2. I love LOVE the new speaker it has. Its so load and clear now! That's the biggest upgrade in my opinion minus a much better field of vision. Worth the upgrade for me? Oh yeah!
I can definitely say the 3d motion works as intended, as I changed the ring 2 pro doorbell to well be just a doorbell-cam only and only motion jingle if someone is actually walking up the path and is a person (I enabled the 3d motion set the angle and range to 6m so people walking past the front of the house on pavement (7m) don't set it off and adjusted the motion zone to only cover the path and the whole entrance only so motion detection is not been set off by next door neighbour and the 3d motion ignores anything past the entrance I noticed at the end of your video you mentioned it not very useful , so if you set it to say 6m anything beyond 6m is completely ignored if you say live 7m from kerb (as I do) with foot traffic it will reduce activations to zero (just from my ring Pro 2 cam alone it works definitely as intended) as you have objects blocking your main road 3d motion probably isn't as useful for you (but in most other user cases it be road facing and removes all incorrect motion recordings/jingles) ,, but useful for figuring out what rogue activations motion is setting off a motion recording because it'll tell you where it was with that dot map (as it shows the dot for people and motion movements ) as without it you have to just look at the screen for movement without it or just give up and drop the sensitivity down a notch The only one problem I have with the motion zones you can add, as what are you supposed to do with extra zones as you can't configure what the other zones do (like only detect and record motion as I want the second zone to record motion but not notified you can't do that) it's what has made me modify my doorbell cam to be completely not annoying now (3d zone range + path zone only) as I permanently turned off notifications until I did that and look at now getting the indoor cams to point outside front and back for general motion recording but no notifications (and to keep eye on the dog so probably a 3rd one) I am assuming the stick up cams are still at an disadvantage (even when powered) vs indoor one
Thank you for the video! I’m debating whether or not I should upgrade from the Pro to the Pro 2. I’ll wait until your comparison video to make my final decision. Take care!
I have been debating whether to get this or the Google Nest. What a great video! You helped me decide whether I want to buy this or not. I'm disappointed that it does not come with any accessories, which is fine if you already had the original Pro but this is my first purchase and I could really use the wedge mount. You touched on things that I never would have thought of and I enjoyed the different visuals.
AS ALWAYS....GREAT REVIEW!! Not certain I am going to upgrade my Ring Door Pro to the RDP 2....not enough features to justify spending $250.... Thanks again for doing a great job with the review.
Excellent review, although I disagree with your unboxing impression. It's nice to get 3 faceplates and the wedges included, but those must have generated a ton of plastic waste since most people stick with 1 color faceplate, and many people don't need the wedges or retrofit. I think the coupon makes up for it since I can pick exactly 1 faceplate with the color I want, and not have to toss 3 of them into the recycling.
Thanks for the thorough review. I'm thinking of getting the new Ring but wanted to know more about it.. As for the minimalist packaging, that is how every business should be packaging their products so as to minimize packaging waste. Companies who do this are doing their part for the environment. Using recyclable materials would be an added plus.
For above comment: Smaller box means NO excessories LOL which means you will need to buy additional items..... which will come with …..aditional packeges/boxes. That's no good for environment. Amazing review though
@@rh4388 I totally get what you're saying but I didn't say smaller, I said minimal. I wish more businesses would thoughtfully design and use just enough recycled or recyclable materials to protect product(s) including accessories of course ( I agree with you on this one 🙂)
I got the regular video doorbell but it couldn't handle Canadian winters. The battery wouldn't hold a charge even though it's hard wired. Your review has my interest peaked!
@@LifeHackster Nice. Are you referring to the little box you need to add to the chime? I double checked and confirmed i dont have it on my cheapo ring doorbell so i guess thats why it doesnt get enough power.
I agree with you... For the price, the video should be 2K and have a siren. Maybe even a small battery as an anti theft feature to go with the siren. But I guess they are ok with theft since I recall that they will replace it for free when stolen. I am also somewhat disappointed that they still won't offer local storage of some type. I won't upgrade bc of the price. Maybe if they offer a trade in or really big discount for current subscribers.
My doorbell pro has a new feature called Motion alert warning that gives a recorded warning. Does the pro 2 also has the same feature? I think it is a new software add on. My spotlight and floodlights also have the same feature. I like it. Can be turned on or off.
I think a lot depends on the setting of the Ring Pro or Pro2 - my drive way is very long so Iv no issues with video capture on my current Ring Pro or it’s accompanying Ring Spot light camera . I don’t think il be upgrading to the Pro 2 but maybe when version 3 is released
Same thoughts. My entry path has a 90 degree angle so when people started walking the camera already captured them. Not sure if I would really want pro 2. The audio and video is a little better but not worth the $250 upgrade yet....
Great in-depth review. Always look forward to your reviews.... one of best in the business. I won’t be to bummed-out with the smaller packaging since most of the accessories don’t get used.
The faceplates make sense a lot of waste by providing them all in each box. You only use 1 color typically anyways for the life of the product so it prevents e waste. Plus you’re still getting it for free with the coupon
Excellent video review! It would be great if there was an option to disable the noise cancelation. From the footage I’ve seen from this doorbell camera, the audio that the microphone records is not very clear. I like the audio of the older ones better.
Great review! One thing I would add to your reviews is how your original “mechanical” chime works (or doesn’t) with these various models. Not just a verbal comment, I think a video segment would be very helpful. Another person commented that when using a Ring doorbell with a mechanical/transformer chime, there’s an internal battery in the Ring Doorbell that will eventually die. If this is true, does that mean the unit is a throwaway, or can the internal battery be replaced? Somebody needs to either confirm this issue or debunk it. Otherwise another great video, keep them coming.
Great review! Appreciate all the effort making it. I find 6 sec delay before the video comes on is too long to be efficient in detecting porch thieves, a common issue with cloud base systems.
Thanks for the video. As an owner of the original Pro the cost and features for me does not warrant at upgrade for me as this time. I think RING should have done some sort of trade in/upgrade program for existing Pro users. I agree the video quality should of gone to 2K and I'm a little bummed they still have the fish eye view which looks worse than the V1. I honestly thought they would of sorted that in this upgrade. Also been from Ireland we only get 50% of the features they release too which is bad.
Not sure why the Pro isn’t included in the Amazon trade-in program. I, too, was disappointed about this. But as a Ring Protect Plus subscriber, I did receive 10% off. The fish eye effect is more noticeable when you’re looking at it vertically. Perhaps it’s because of the lens size limitation? Not to mention the technical limits at this price range. At least there isn’t a lot of distortion around the outer edges (there is some).
@@LifeHackster I personally don't think they will. Also we have only less than 50% of their products too. We have yet to get the retrofit alarm, smart lights etc. Really poor.

Just had one of these Pro 2 doorbells installed. The technician said I did not need the power pro kit. After installation I noticed static noise coming from the chime box and also the chime was ringing when no one was pushing the doorbell. I called Ring and was advised I did need the pro chime kit so I installed it and everything was working fine. I then noticed the doorbell itself was very hot. Spoke to 3 people at Ring and got different answers. One told me it was a fire hazard since it was so hot but offered no fix. I’m debating whether to return and go with something else. My main question is do these doorbells typically get hot? I’m not sure what to do at this point. Also..Thanks for all the great reviews!
Why would they tell me it is a fire hazard since it gets so hot? Temps where I live are over 100 lately, but would that have anything to do with it. I don't want to keep it if theres a chance it could cause an electrical fire. What would you do? Thanks LifeHackster...
I just say Thank you. I really want this camera for my house but I don’t know how many devices can connect with it.please do video sharing 2 or 3 devices. Thank you so much
I don't know what I was expecting but I expected more especially that unboxing and the alexa greetings. I switched to G4 from ubiquiti and have it working with alexa using home assistant just seems so far ahead of this.
Does the pro 2 have as wide or wider view than the pro? I don't want to lose out on any wide view. I'm referring to width not up and down view. Thank you again LifeHackster. 👍👍👍👍👍
There is a slight difference - 150° Horizontal on the Pro 2 and 160° on the Pro... Comparison video is scheduled at 12 pm CST and you will see the difference.
I got my Ring Pro 2 here in the UK a couple of a days ago and we don’t seem to have the digital coupon to get an additional faceplate. I also noticed the blue handled Torx security screwdriver they included isn’t reversible like the older ones which is a shame.
I was concerned about not getting the digital coupon instantly after installation. So much so that I chatted with a Ring rep & they assured me it was coming (via email) in 24-48 hours. For me, it will be 48 hours around 4-5 pm today (I’m still waiting for it as of the time of this post).
@@jeffd3044 cheers, yes it look like it does mention it during the setup process. That said after setting mine up (replacing my one year old Ring Pro) the signal is really weak in comparison and won’t even connect to my 5ghz network, so much so that the image is super pixelated and I think it’s going to have to go back. My Ring pro is absolutely fine though.
Great Video. The only problem I have with my doorbell pro II is audio quality from doorbell microphone. It’s very difficult to understand person talking
Thanks for the review. I'm tempted to buy, but I am still happy with my three year old Ring Pro. By the way; my Ring protect plan went up $5.00 to $105.00 a year. Did you not get the increase? Happy Easter! Don from Milwaukee
The radar has been a lifesaver for me because it much more reliably determines distance. My Doorbell 3 plus kept giving false alerts everytime my neighbour went to their car. False alerts are now zero. The dim LED ring is useless though and Ring need to clarify if this is a production fault or not
I look forward to your comparison video with the original! Thanks for the thorough work! Looks like there are some audio artifacts occasionally but still sounds better for sure. It also looks like the field of view truly is just as wide as the original, which is surprising. From your commentary, I suspect I can use the old wedge kit with the new camera since screw homes are in the same spot? Does the documentation indicate whether the original power adapter works or if you have to use the new one, and whether the power requirements (transformer) are the same?
Audio is way better than the Pro 1 IMHO. It just wasn’t apparent at times in this video. Horizontal FOV is about the same as the Pro 1, but the vertical FOV is dramatically better. Physical size wise, the length is nearly the same as the Pro 1 (screw holes lined up nearly perfectly), but the width & depth is slightly larger. I would certainly try the old wedges; however, I don’t need one.
Meant to also say that I’m still using the same transformer (16VAC/30VA) with no issues. Straight through-no mechanical doorbell in between. I use a Ring chime instead.
I am not sure about the wedge kit. The mounting holes are the same on both the Pro and the Pro 2 but there is a slight difference on the dimensions and the Pro 2 has a curve on the back that the Pro doesn't fit well on the Pro2's corner kit.. But I think the older wedge will fit on the Pro2. I will have to check this when I do the comparison video. As to the power kit, it stated on the manual to use the new one on the Pro 2 even if you have the older one..so there might be a difference on the specs.
Hi - Great review. How is the wireless internet reception on the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 and the Ring Floodlight Camera Plus? Are they strong? I'm concerned of the Wifi reception that the Ring may not able detect at the garage and front doors. Thank you much.
Also, you didn't note if it still has the 2-3 second delay between pushing the button and your chime sounding. I'd upgrade just for that and likely won't if they haven't fixed that.
I hope they will put an actual greeting when it detects motion., like “good morning” , “is there anything i can help you with” or “have a goodnight. Most of the delivery man don’t press the doorbell ..
Is this new Video Doorbell Pro 2 compatible with the original Doorbell Pro wedge kit? I already have the original pro doorbell with 3 wedges installed, caulked, and painted, and was wondering if it is as simple as swapping the doorbell units, or do I need a completely new wedge kit?
Your video reviews are the best out there. I just installed this Ring Pro 2 and that LED light around the button is SO dim that it's about useless. Do you think that this could be updated with a firmware update or do you think it's a hardware problem?
Thinking of upgrading from my original doorbell pro. Can I mount this on my existing angled wedge mount? Trying to avoid have to drill more holes into brick.
Great review! Extremely helpful and found the information useful in making my decsion to purchase the Pro 2. I'm new to Ring and would love your thoughts on the best way to setup the features. My Pro 2 placement is identical to yours with lighting etc. I also purchased the Spotlight Cam w/siren. Thoughts you can share would be helpful. Thank you in advance.
I’m just getting the Ring doorbell and have had difficulty getting it to work. Ring rep tried troubleshooting and that didn’t work either. The rep kept referring to my transformer. After speaking to friends who have the ring pro 2 it appears this is a common problem with the doorbell.
Hi, Nice Explanation but just asking for one more point, my current bell connected with 220 V AC, do i still need transformer to keep my current doorbell in use or only the power kit? Will the power kit keep the door bell wired and no need to recharge battery?

I noticed at the end of your video you mentioned it not very useful , so if you set it to say 6m anything beyond 6m is completely ignored if you say live 7m from kerb (as I do) with foot traffic it will reduce activations to zero (just from my ring Pro 2 cam alone it works definitely as intended) as you have objects blocking your main road 3d motion probably isn't as useful for you (but in most other user cases it be road facing and removes all incorrect motion recordings/jingles) ,, but useful for figuring out what rogue activations motion is setting off a motion recording because it'll tell you where it was with that dot map (as it shows the dot for people and motion movements ) as without it you have to just look at the screen for movement without it or just give up and drop the sensitivity down a notch
The only one problem I have with the motion zones you can add, as what are you supposed to do with extra zones as you can't configure what the other zones do (like only detect and record motion as I want the second zone to record motion but not notified you can't do that)
it's what has made me modify my doorbell cam to be completely not annoying now (3d zone range + path zone only) as I permanently turned off notifications until I did that
and look at now getting the indoor cams to point outside front and back for general motion recording but no notifications (and to keep eye on the dog so probably a 3rd one) I am assuming the stick up cams are still at an disadvantage (even when powered) vs indoor one

I just say Thank you. I really want this camera for my house but I don’t know how many devices can connect with it.please do video sharing 2 or 3 devices. Thank you so much
Very good review Thank you
Thank you. I appreciate it.
I don't know what I was expecting but I expected more especially that unboxing and the alexa greetings. I switched to G4 from ubiquiti and have it working with alexa using home assistant just seems so far ahead of this.
You got so nice channel ...shame I found it only today lol !!!
6 seconds pre-recording?? Now I feel even safer at home, even with my 200 pound dog protecting me!
:)
👍
😂😂😂
Im going to like the video even though i own Eufy items ONLY
:)
Great review
Does the pro 2 have as wide or wider view than the pro? I don't want to lose out on any wide view. I'm referring to width not up and down view. Thank you again LifeHackster. 👍👍👍👍👍
There is a slight difference - 150° Horizontal on the Pro 2 and 160° on the Pro... Comparison video is scheduled at 12 pm CST and you will see the difference.
Thanks for the response. Can't wait for the new video. 👍
I think the coupon will be emailed. At this time, I haven't received mine yet.
Great review can’t wait for the comparison video but with out the extra stuff they should lower the price
Yeah I agree.. probably in the 200 dollar range..
I haven't checked.. I guess, they have to add those misc. fees like in our cable bill :( Thank you.
@@LifeHackster, I am sure it has to do with Amazon buying Ring too. Amazon CO needs more income to increase his zillion dollar wage......
The radar has been a lifesaver for me because it much more reliably determines distance. My Doorbell 3 plus kept giving false alerts everytime my neighbour went to their car. False alerts are now zero. The dim LED ring is useless though and Ring need to clarify if this is a production fault or not
Hey do you have a link to your door chime? I'm looking to purchase one and your's sounds good.
Which one? Doorbell chime? I use my echo devices for that.
Can it work with the ring 4 mounting plate
I was really looking forward to the HD audio but it seems like it sounds the same
It is a bit better.
Personally, I think it’s a lot better. I’m sure the quality of your WiFi & power connections make a difference.
Anoth4er excellent review.
Can you review new Solar Wall Light next ? It just came out couple days ago.
Yes.. pretty soon.
Also, you didn't note if it still has the 2-3 second delay between pushing the button and your chime sounding. I'd upgrade just for that and likely won't if they haven't fixed that.
Almost instantaneous on my old ding dong chime.
@@LifeHackster That is good! Please include that in your upcoming comparison between the pro 1 and 2 as it is a key point for at least a few of us.
I hope they will put an actual greeting when it detects motion., like “good morning” , “is there anything i can help you with” or “have a goodnight. Most of the delivery man don’t press the doorbell ..
Do you have any review on the hikvision doorbell? Many thanks in advance
Yes, it should be. The mounting holes are the same but the Pro 2 has rounded corners on its backside...but it should fit.
Is the daytime resolution better than the original pro? Another great review BTW!
Yes, it has a better resolution camera. Some may not like the HDR feature, but it’s growing on me. It’s iffy on my other surveillance cameras as well.
Yes..it is definitely better and the compression is also better than the older Pro.
Hey Vince. Hope all is well in TX
Everything is good. Thanks for asking.
Your video reviews are the best out there. I just installed this Ring Pro 2 and that LED light around the button is SO dim that it's about useless. Do you think that this could be updated with a firmware update or do you think it's a hardware problem?
How does compare to the google nest hello? Currently have that doorbell, but thinking of switching all of my cameras to ring.
Thinking of upgrading from my original doorbell pro. Can I mount this on my existing angled wedge mount? Trying to avoid have to drill more holes into brick.
Great video, well, they all are. Can you tell me where I get the digital coupon for the face plate, I did not see one in the box.
Supposedly, it will be emailed to us. I haven't received mine yet.
@@LifeHackster thank you...so far I have received two emails for a free sign.
Can you do a review of the Botslab Video Doorbell 2 Pro R811. I think the 180 degree viewing from a single camera would be a big game changer.
After speaking to friends who have the ring pro 2 it appears this is a common problem with the doorbell.
wow great video
Looking to upgrade my existing Ring battery doorbell that is connected via a wired connection to the Ring Pro 2? Is this possible to just replace?
Great video as always. In your opinion do you think it's worth upgrading from a original doorbell pro? Thank you in advance. 👍👍👍👍👍
I think so.. video and audio quality are better.
I need one of these really bad
Can you review the new Ring outdoor SIREN ?
I have ordered it.
Looking forward to your comparison of the Pro vs Pro 2, GREAT detailed videos!!!!!!
Thanks! 👍
How high off the ground do you put the camera on the frame
Hi, Nice Explanation but just asking for one more point, my current bell connected with 220 V AC, do i still need transformer to keep my current doorbell in use or only the power kit? Will the power kit keep the door bell wired and no need to recharge battery?
I don’t have an old chime. My current video doorbell are powered directly to a power adaptor. Is it possible to connect this the same way?
Yes.
@@LifeHackster so I won’t need that power box you mount in the chime ? That is only for make sure it will get the right amount of power?
Thank you for a very fast respond 👍
@@mortensrensen1048 yes. That is only used if you have a chime box.
Hi, please could you let me know which mount you used to stick this doorbell onto.
Can this be allow 2 device a android phone and echo show tv monitor to detech notify at the same time.
Is the speaker louder then the old pro….? We live on a busy street and that’s our main problem
can I have separate ring button without the camera that works with the ring pro2?
Excelent review, do you now if is compatible with agust smart lock?
