I have a Dream Machine Pro so I can go with the Unifi doorbell easy enough but I feel like I need to commit to their cameras as well then which are massively expensive.
Nice touch to quote Harvey Dent from one of my favorite movie trilogies! 👍 I have not yet switched to a video doorbell (and that's inspite of having several free ones sent over by companies that wanted to partner and integrate their products into our smart research platform). But that could be because I am picky about latency, no subscription fees, no being tied into any manufacturer's ecosystem etc.....and because I am able to replicate most of the features (except the chime) built into video doorbells with regular cameras from Reolink with Blue Iris or even Raspberry Pi with motioneye (and few Twillio and/or Sendgrid routines for notifications) . 🙂 Completely agree with your assessment though (especially for non-geeks like me) about Eufy for budget conscious consumers and the newer Ring Pro for people with extra budget (even though many of my friends are sick of the increasing latency with their older models - planned obsolescence in older models?). Question: What is your thought about any theft deterrent features built into the doorbells you reviewed here? I know there was concern previously about some doorbells getting built in SD card storage to solve the missing 24/7 recording problem but that was defeated if the doorbell could be stolen relatively easily.
This is the second home in which th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).
Agreed. Excellent production, clips, sound, explaining and easy to understand. Here have 500.000 goldstars for a job well done 👍 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✖️100.000 Thank you 😊
Coming back 3 years later, I have still yet to see a better review + comparison. Showing the app and how it looks side by side against competition is extremely useful if not essential.
I appreciate your mention of the audio quality. For those of us with hearing impairments, even with hearing aids we sometimes cannot understand tiny tinny-sounding audio. It’s especially useful that you play the audio so we can judge it for ourselves. Thank you!
You missed one critical test. Stick the doorbell in the freezer for 2 hours and see if it still works. My Ring 3 is useless for 3 months of the year as i live in Norway.
Place a heat pad behind the ring setup if wired. It will be a makeshift build but a solution nevertheless. If you want to get fancy you can get an Arduino (or some type of IFTTT trigger) to program it to only kick off at certain low temps. I have a heat pad warm up my lithium batteries at a certain temp automagically.
Have been using Eufy for 2 years now and love their system. Also have 2 of their cameras, all connected to their base station. Notifications are fast and reliable. Video quality is very high. Batteries last approx 6-7 months ( I live in Seattle. Gets cold in winter, but usually not freezing). Nice not to have to pay monthly fees and you can store a ton of video on their base station system.
We have a Wyze cam and your review is spot on. My notifications do show up quickly, though. An SD card option would be awesome. Still happy with it for the price.
I've had nothing but issues with mine. The UDMPRO consistently resets itself and loading into the live feed on my Pixel 4XL is unbearably slow. The other issue I have is that you cannot set a custom "doorbell" notification when the doorbell is pressed.
I’ve been using a UniFi setup for years for my home network and security cameras, so all I had to add was the doorbell since I had all the other necessary equipment. Only been using the doorbell for a month, but I have no complaints.
I have the ring pro 2 and the small picture on the echo show can be fixed simply by telling the echo show to zoom in,a feature I've not seen advertised anywhere(I found it by accident). The echo show remembers this setting until you power cycle it or tell it to zoom out.
I am literally returning both my Eufy tomorrow because there is times I get notifications and then I go to see recording and nothing or there is times it goes hours without recording. Ever since the system update I have been having this problem. I updated it like about a couple weeks ago before the update it was great. I even got a replacement and same thing, so that lemme know it was something to do with the update.
I've watched several of these comparison videos and this is by far the most comprehensive when it comes to practical usage. Thank you - I've decided to blow my cash on the Ring P2, that is if they ever come back in stock.
I just purchased the Wyze doorbell for 2 reasons. 1: I like having multiple chimes in the home and I can choose a different sound for each doorbell. 2: I already have Wyze cams, Wyze plugs, Wyze thermostat, and Wyze lights. So it just made sense to stay with that ecosystem. I don’t mind the delay because right now I have no delay and I have a second cam on my front porch anyway.
Wyze products are inexpensive and there is a reason. Wyze has gone downhill as a company. Their customer service is an exercise in frustration. The constant updates risk deteriorating the image quality and function of your older Wyze cameras. They don't support previous versions making all your original Wyze systems obsolete and virtually useless. AND $1.99 per camera per month adds up real fast/ plus a $60. annual fee for their home security Kit.
I use a Eufy door bell and like it quite a bit. We also have a Eufy camera at the back door with a severely limited motion detection range so we know when the dog wants to come back inside.
Thanks for this video which is perfect timing for me. One thing is consistently left out even from manufacturers are the physical dimensions of the devices. So far I found that Nest Doorbell is the slimmer. Even then, it's an eigth of an inch too wide to be put on the jamb. I really wish they would be slimmer or had a slimmer adapter especially for the angled installation.
It's interesting to see how having a different front door setup (as compared to your 2020 video) seems makes a huge difference in what features become more valuable.
Great video, Reed. I've been thinking about getting a video doorbell for a few months now and this video guide has led me in the right direction. When there are a few top options, that's when the hard part comes in. I'm considering Eufy, Nest, or Ring - but I'll also have to get Hoobs up and running to get it working within myHomeKit setup.
I have the Wyze Doorbell on my side Door where it's a step up to get in so it's a narrow area and it works perfectly for my needs. I agree that I wish it had a SD card reader but for what I use it for, it's great. On my front door I use the new Ring Wired doorbell and it can see my entire yard, I'm very impressed with the viewing angle and picture quality. The only thing I don't like is the monthly fees for the full functions for both devices. That leaves my back deck and back door with a wireless doorbell/flood lamp to install and you've given some great suggestions.
Really good video. For me, the ability to unlock a gate (or door) from within the app is key and I think that is where Ring has everyone beat (even if it isn’t that comprehensive).
Terrific video for people to start looking into the different video doorbells available in today’s market. Easy to understand and comprehensive. Thank you!
Great Video! I have had the Nest Hello for about 3 years tied into my Google Home. I’ve really enjoyed it. When I’m at work I get instant notifications if someone’s at my front door or even if they’re dropping of packages. I was torn between Ring and Nest Hello when I was trying to decide. However it’s probably splitting hairs between your top 3.
With your next review it would be helpful to also know which ones are wired, which are battery operated, battery duration under average use, and distance from router/modem or hub.
Got the Ring Pro on ebay for 100 bucks this last christmas season. It was as pain in the butt after initial set up. It crashed, it refused to work and it was constantly rebooting. it did this for about a week. Well, whatever it was doing, it's now stable and works fine. It looks good as far as the video goes, never tried to talk over it.
Really good and insightful overview of what is on offer, thanks. However, as a tech novice regarding these devices I was also eager to understand what products required hard wiring or batteries or could handle both options. Thanks again for a great research tool!
Correction at 6:05. "3D Motion Detection" uses radar from the doorbell to determine a person's position, then overlay their position & path on a satellite image. They don't use satellite imagery to locate people.
Glad you liked the video. I normally wouldn’t walk looking at the camera but I’m doing it so you can compare video quality of the doorbells. Getting footage of myself standing or walking in front of the doorbells is my least favorite thing.
I just subscribed to you for around 7:00 where you mention Alexa and kind of censored the word in editing. Thank you so much. Your content is high quality and you obviously have respect for your viewers. It is so annoying when other tech videos say "You-Know-Who" without care and then you gotta yell cancel or have her wack out and do crazy things she thinks she hears. Much appreciated, dude. It may sound like a dumb little thing but I think it means a lot!
The wired Ring doorbells (as well as wired Nest Hello doorbells) are great products. HOWEVER, they don't tell you upfront that these wired doorbells all have an internal non-user-serviceable battery. IF you will be using the doorbell with a mechanical chime, just be aware that at some point, the battery inside will fail. The internal battery on these units are used to provide temporary voltage to the doorbell unit when a mechanical chime is used. When someone presses the doorbell button, power is temporarily routed away from the doorbell to the chime inside the house. The battery keeps the doorbell powered for the 1-2 seconds while this happens. Over time, this small battery will be unable to deal with the voltage drop and your doorbell will lose power and reboot itself. If you don't rely on a mechanical chime or if you use the Ring wireless chime, than it won't be an issue. If you do use a mechanical chime, depending on your environment (which includes usage rate, weather, temperature, etc.), the doorbell will stop function properly at some point in time. For most users, it seems to be somewhere between 1-3 years.
@@ilyas_khan I'm not sure if Ring has any battery powered products that can be wired to a mechanical door chime. The ones I'm aware of can be charged by the doorbell wiring but do not have the ability to ring a physical chime besides the wireless electronic chime that Ring sells (and this chime is powered by a standard indoor outlet). But in general, you won't have that issue as any supplemental power for a mechanical chime would come from the replaceable and rechargeable battery which is not present in the Ring Pro / Pro2.
I really like all your video's. You try and put humor in them, which I can appreciate. I hoped you would have done the Amcrest doorbell. I have the Ring Elite in my brand new house and love it. When you pair it with the alarm the $100.00 a year alarm monitoring and unlimited camera subscription it is a good value!
I was hoping to see the Amcrest as well to see how it compared. I have one that I installed last year. At the time it was the only one that produced an ONVIF video stream so I could view the camera with BlueIris. Not sure why it was overlooked in this review.
Very infomative video. The one that's missing IMHO is the DoorBird. It's pricey but well built hardware, and the nice thing is that it can be used without their (free) cloud service: you can pull the video feed with RTSP, and have the doorbell part work through a SIP telephone exchange like Asterisk. We're using a few of these in our properties, and we have fully integrated it into our home automation solution.
Reed’s two way cam voice said “you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain “ Then it’s says “I see you but how long can you look at me with out blinking” 😳 lol
I have the Nest Hello that I got on launch, crazy to think it's still relevant all this time later considering they have only really added one feature since the launch for notifying you when you get a package and when its taken.
Very nice comparison. One thing that is probably lower-level consideration is mechanical/digital existing doorbells. Support for them and speed at which they ring is important for those of us that have them (I have one that plays music/whatever clips outside). Ring Pro 1 supports them but had a 2-3 second delay before the chime sounded but the Pro 2 is instant.
Wow, I just love this! Finally a video comparing kind of all of the video doorbells on the market. Sadly it’s clear to me that it’s not the time for me to get a video doorbell yet. I’m to picky so there was something I missed with every doorbell that made me think ’no not that one because…’
Thank you for putting all this effort into making a great review. I wish you had also covered the Ring Doorview camera and rated cameras by auto-display on Echo Show.
Ultimate doorbell features but still not found. NO Cloud Poe Good camera no stretched fisheye crap. Aimable camera Onvif and good app for notification or HA integration. Electric relay for garage or door
It's not "Ultimate" without Arlo, which many reviewers select as the best video doorbell available. And it's the only doorbell that will work seamlessly with existing mechanical doorbell chimes.
The 115 degree heat last week plus the bell is west facing killed my third video doorbell in two years. Time to look for something that plastic pcp board will not warp from the heat.
monthly fees suck. Plus I don't want my camera footage leaving my house.. That's why I went with Unifi.. everything stays with me and the cameras and notifications are great. The doorbell does seem to get pretty warm though, but other than that, no complaints.
If you want a 24/7 surveillance video go with the Nest. If you want just surveillance of a certain area, go with the Ring. There was a shooting outside of my house where my Ring Pro managed to catch the vehicle through the 30-second camera snapshots but couldn't make out the license or the model of the car because it was at night. If I had gone with the Nest, it probably would've helped with the 24/7 video recording.
couple years with the Nest Hello and it's still going strong... grandfathered the 24/7 recording plan as i prefer this to event-based recording (always a hit and miss)
Bought Nest doorbell 1 year ago and worked great for about 10 months, to include the capturing of approaching individuals from about 20-25 feet; however, it no longer can detect motion unless 5-7 feet away and I contacted tech support; we want through changes in the app and reset the unit; then they sent me replacement unit since within year warranty and the same thing; have to be about 5-7 feet or closer to trigger motion, and they now claim it can be my wifi, which there was no issues during first 10 mos; I saw online others experiencing same thing, and I’m thoroughly disappointed!!! Never again, and will switch to Ring Pro 2 Which I should have bought instead of fecal Nest doorbell
I got the wyze. I like it. But like you said the notifications are horrible. Notified 3 min later the person has already left. Wyze serves a purpose to allow entry level users. To push bigger companies to innovate and bring prices down.
Thank you for the great review, my fellow AZ tech enthusiast. I scanned all of the comments and saw that (5) other people were asking for the Lorex 4K door bell review. I even read a comment of a person that provided their feedback and experience with the Lorex 4K doorbell (very helpful @Prowler - thank you). I would like to add my request to the others for you to do an updated shootout of Doorbells, but this time include the Lorex 4K unit. Pretty Please. Thanks. R6
I might add that I called Lorex presales support this morning and they confirmed that Lorex is not native Samsung Smartthings compatible. Lorex has their own standalone app and is not Zwave or Zigbee compatible. That may be a deal breaker for some? I don't foresee creating an automation routine that would include the smart doorbell, but maybe you could expound on reasons why it would be important or useful.
I bought the Netatmo as in the UK it's one of few available and the ONLY one that works with HomeKit. Some others are simply not available to buy here. I was after the Logitech but it's not in the shops. I bought a bell chime so no issues with hearing the bell being pressed.
I purchased the Wyze doorbell and I am seriously considering replacing it. By the time you get the notification that someone is at your door, they're already gone. 50% - 60% of the times I try to check the live feed, it won't connect to my wi-fi. I have to restart it to get it to function. Worst of all, every day from 2pm until about 5pm, the sun shines directly on the doorbell, it overheats, and doesn't work at all. Wyze, as a company, needs to find a direction. One month they announce that they are coming out with outdoor wireless cameras, next month they've moved on to robot vacuums and the cameras are forgotten. The month after that they move on to fitness watches and the vacuums are forgotten. They need to find one thing that they are really good at and then get really great at it. Don't just half-ass a project then move on.
Great thorough video, I really appreciate the great detail you provided for each doorbell, some of which I have never heard of. I wish more gave the option to upload to an FTP server of an external hard drive.
I have the Eufy and have loathed my decision. It won't integrate with my homebase that I have from the Eufycams to include face detection. So that means, the eufy cam that sits in my backyard can tell me *who* is in my back yard if I've trained it on face recognition for that person, but it can't do the same for people coming to my front door. The motion detection has been been very hit or miss, as well. I will have folks walk up, drop a package, take a photo, then walk off without it recording any motion. BUT it will tell me every time a leaf blows through its activity zone. I have found I cannot depend on it for front door motion detection.
Face recognition will be dope when they hook up with social media platforms and your smart phone tells you who the hell is that stranger doing the delivery or stealing a package at your door 😂😂
Another great review. Have you look at the Lorex 2K? I have two, one for the front door and one for the back, but I have mixed feelings about them. On the plus side it has no-fees, local storage and I also have it recording 24/7 via RTSP to my NVR which is awesome because I can view it on my TV along side my other cameras on the NVR, that feature is a must for me. The person detect works really well, the image quality is quite good for a doorbell camera and the HDR works really well. I have a 3-1/2 watt LED porch light and it's bright enough to give me a color picture at night. The problem I'm having is that on occasion the notifications can take forever...as in several minutes! It's not a signal problem and it's not a power problem. There are so many great reviews on Amazon it has me wondering what can be wrong.
Nest all the way for me... Friend just had his truck stolen right out of his drive way... Ring didn't detect motion 15 feet away so nothing recorded. My Nest Hello is always recording.. and never needs charged. You get what you pay for
As always, great video. I really appreciate your consistent methodology. I would love to see you add the Ezviz DB1 to your comparo. I've used it for a couple of years and feel it is probably at least as good as most of the ones featured here.
Just installed the Eufy Wired Doorbell today. Have 3 of the Eufy S40 Solar Cams on the way. So far I love the app and the quality of the doorbell cam. the fact i do not need to pay for a subscription is great to. If anyone is reading this I would highly recommend Eufy's newer products.
Debating on ordering the cordless eufy 2k doorbell. How do you like the doorbell? I'm also considering 2 of the S40 cameras. However, if snow, ice or shade block charger panel likely fucked. 🤔 Like to mount under gutter on soffit, no sun.
@@shanew7361 I love both of them. The S40 is top notch technology if you ask me. Trying to find a spot with full sun all day is not possible for me. Even with sun half of the day it does greatly reduce the amount of times I would have to charge plugging it in. I would guess I will have to charge by hand maybe 2-3 times a year. Regardless of snow and what ever else might block sun rays, I don't think you can go wrong getting this camera. I would not recommend hanging under the gutter instead hang it on the gutter. That's what I did
I think you need to check your connections in your house for your doorbell and get a more powerful amp because the G4 doorbell that I put in has none of those problems as in no audio delay none of that stuff I went above and beyond the power that it said it's required and it works flawlessly audio quality is very crisp and clear through talking I was so shocked how good it was none of that rattly stuff that you had
What video doorbell are you using? Also if you want to check out the full comparison article, here’s the link: smarthomesolver.com/reviews/best-smart-video-doorbells-2021-update/
I use a ring 3
I am glad you did an update. i was curious to see what you thought about the Unifi G4 door bell camera.
I have a Dream Machine Pro so I can go with the Unifi doorbell easy enough but I feel like I need to commit to their cameras as well then which are massively expensive.

Great video but I am left wondering how the Arlo would have compared. Recently got a Ring Pro 2 and was in doubt between it and the Arlo.
This is the second home in which th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. Wow, this is the most comprehensive video doorbell comparison on TH-cam for sure. It’s obvious a huge amount of work went into it. Thanks you Reed!
Thanks Guy! It was a lot of work and I appreciate the nice comment!
Agreed. Excellent production, clips, sound, explaining and easy to understand. Here have 500.000 goldstars for a job well done 👍

I bought the Eufy off of this and I can agree with every point

All of the options are overwhelming!! Trying to find the right choice for my older parents. One that’s easy to operate

Awesome job Reed, such a detailed and helpful video! Eufy definitely does seem the best option at the more budget end of the market.

Oh okay I really thought they used live tracking satellites to monitor my home, with NORAD subscription fees.
Reed, you have a VERY distinct walk. I don't need to see your face to know you're walking to the door. :)
Thank you for this awesome comparison video!
If you use a battery powered ring that can also be wired up to provide a trickle charge, would you have this same issue?
@@ilyas_khan I'm not sure if Ring has any battery powered products that can be wired to a mechanical door chime. The ones I'm aware of can be charged by the doorbell wiring but do not have the ability to ring a physical chime besides the wireless electronic chime that Ring sells (and this chime is powered by a standard indoor outlet). But in general, you won't have that issue as any supplemental power for a mechanical chime would come from the replaceable and rechargeable battery which is not present in the Ring Pro / Pro2.
Thanks for this video! Already in the UniFi ecosystem, so went with the G4 and it's been working great. Definitely worth the extra money
The only one I was curious about was Logitech as is only one with Apple secure video…
Today, 08-23-21, ordered the EUFY 2K BATTERY DOORBELL, based on this review. Thank you for the HEADS UP!
Reed’s two way cam voice said “you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain “ Then it’s says “I see you but how long can you look at me with out blinking” 😳 lol
C'mon Dad...Yoda was the best part! Family!!! Thanks for the information.
Great video this helps out soo much!
Best part. “You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain” 🦇
I’m to picky so there was something I missed with every doorbell that made me think ’no not that one because…’
Same. Blink drops a new one this month so interested in this one
Thank you for putting all this effort into making a great review. I wish you had also covered the Ring Doorview camera and rated cameras by auto-display on Echo Show.
Reed - you’re a good man! Love the comparison videos 👍🏻
Thanks Dan! Glad to hear you like them!
Ultimate doorbell features but still not found.
NO Cloud
Poe
Good camera no stretched fisheye crap.
Aimable camera
Onvif
and good app for notification or HA integration.
Electric relay for garage or door
Excellent and comprehensive smart doorbell comparison review, many Thanks and appreciate all your efforts.
Great video, very informative. What could be added is build quality and ease of installation, although that's a one time thing.
Switched to the Google Nest from the Arlo and I’ve been satisfied with to the point of adding Nest Cam for other parts of my property.
It's not "Ultimate" without Arlo, which many reviewers select as the best video doorbell available. And it's the only doorbell that will work seamlessly with existing mechanical doorbell chimes.
I think you have a unique entrance with blown out lighting behind the pillars.
The 115 degree heat last week plus the bell is west facing killed my third video doorbell in two years. Time to look for something that plastic pcp board will not warp from the heat.
My ring has lasted the az heat wave for the last 2 years
Got the Eufy doorbell replaced with Ring. Eufy is way better. Even working in -29 temperature.
monthly fees suck.
I got the Ring about 6 months ago and a big fan
couple years with the Nest Hello and it's still going strong... grandfathered the 24/7 recording plan as i prefer this to event-based recording (always a hit and miss)
It's finally here once you get through all the dam ads! You're asking more for you content that it's worth.
I love the Vivint doorbell.
Dang I was hoping for the Logitech doorbell review too
It confused me more than it helped me pick the right one lol
Would have liked to see amcrest in this list.
Never again, and will switch to Ring Pro 2
Which I should have bought instead of fecal Nest doorbell
Had the Arlo (junk) and went with the Nest Hello recently and have been satisfied to the point that I got the Nest Cam for the backyard
Life savior for someone whom got left behind , VERY behind!
Wish you would have thrown an arlo in there as well. Other than that one thing this video is amazing, super in depth, detailed, and informative!
Great job comparing options! Ring Pro 2 has been doing a great job since it arrived on the scene this past April. Thanks!
On your recommendation bought the eufy wireless doorbell and still going strong
I have never understood that saying. Good review!
Great comparison! I like the overall results of the Ring Pro 2. These days I tend to prefer the convenience of cloud-based solutions.
Thanks Nigel! I agree cloud-based solution are really convenient.
I bought the Netatmo as in the UK it's one of few available and the ONLY one that works with HomeKit. Some others are simply not available to buy here. I was after the Logitech but it's not in the shops. I bought a bell chime so no issues with hearing the bell being pressed.
we got the Eufy battery with the chime plug in. We really like it for our needs, maybe eventually we may go with the wired one
Yessss I literally just rewatched the 2020 video yesterday 😂😂 thanks for making a new one
I have the UniFi G4 and several other cameras, as well as several WiFi APs.
Nice video was about to make my own till I found your videos. Great work
Great reviews. Wish it included all video doorbells at the time!
Honestly vivint outshines all of these
Surprised to see their new doorbell camera pro not on the list
Lots of useful information. Well worth a sub.
I wish more gave the option to upload to an FTP server of an external hard drive.
great video! very informative and your voice is very soothing
Very good video thanks. It would have been nice to see the zoom and pause feature as well as picture quality during the day and night.
you totally rock! thanks for the comparisons!!
Great job, thanks for including the Unifi G4. Looks like that's what I'll be getting.
That's what I did
@@nateitscake88 Good to know! Thanks for the info!
Please make a video about smartlocks
Excellent comparison video!
Great video!
You need to have an ease of installation rating as well.
