  • These can be tied up very quickly, which is rare to find effective streamer patterns that you can tie so quickly. I can fill up a box in a few hours, and the beauty is that its fairly simple, so it lends to a wide range of color combos as well. Especially since we are using rabbit strips and laser dubbing, both of which have quite a few colors available.
    Using a cap like this, you really don't have to worry too much about neat heads. In fact, occasionally I mess up my whip finish or how I layer the fly. And the head comes out looking terrible. But thats ok when using these caps, because all your mess-ups at the head are covered by this cap. This fly also is very durable for that reason, a fish will not be able to touch your whip finish with their teeth because that cap is in the way.
    The cap is fairly heavy though, but they do make plastic weightless caps as well. So if you want a non-weighted streamer you could use them as well. But I do like the jigging motion this steel head gives. And its not overly heavy on these smaller flies, and I was able to cast with a 4wt rod even.

    I really like the ice dub and Laser dub. They give the streamer the appearance of scales like a live bait fish. I think that makes for a superior fish catcher. Thanks for the tutorial McFly!

      McFly Angler Good plan. I've caught a few trout there that have disgorged fathead minnows 3-4" long so this streamer should be a good imitation.

      Good tails, you could tie the same fly just use a shorter shank hook and get the same thing as this fly, just different with that tail...

    Another really well done video, you should be proud. Great camera angles and close ups, solid informative narration with out waffling on like so many other TH-camrs. You are my go to channel for my new found hobby haha. What is the brand / make / model of your fly vice?

    Nice version of Rich's' Ice-pick'. Both Olive and Baby rainbow colour has done some damage for me this year. I like there quick to tie and last multiple fish.. Well done.

      Hey thanks for a fly name! Yeah that’s close for sure! I looked everywhere for someone tying something exactly like this and couldn’t. That’s the closest I could find. Crazy to me no one had done this before, seemed a bit unreal. But I will say, there is one difference with this fly and the ice pick, the marabou at the back. I watched someone tie it just now and yeah, that extra step on the marabou is different......

    Nice tie. Wish you could elaborate on how the fly rides so we make sure to have the head turned the right way. I think if the head was upside down (hard to tell) it would ride hook up?

      I believe this sits right in the center so it doesn’t matter which way. I could be wrong.

    • @McFlyAngler

      Actually I was working on making one, it’s gonna be pretty extensive so the video is taking longer than I suspected but yes, should be in the next few months/weeks.

    What wt would you use to cast this fly?

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      6wt should be good enough
