A BIRTH WITHOUT DRUGS

  • In this video, I give my opinion on natural births, as someone who experienced 3! (Not on purpose, lol) As an Anesthesiologist, who has administered many epidurals for labor, I had hoped for a smooth one during my own..unfortunately my labors were all precipitous and I advanced through the stages rather quickly each time, leaving zero time for an epidural..(my 2nd was born en route to the hospital!) so I was thrown into the natural birth squad. If you are thinking about having a natural birth, consider it early in your pregnancy and even before conception, so that you can prepare because that will make a huge difference! I also wanted to emphasize that you should consider your baby and your health, and potential complications as well as the access to emergency support. The resources and expertise of OB/GYNs and Anesthesiologists are invaluable in these cases, and may become necessary to keep you and your baby alive. Maternal mortality, regrettably still remains a significant issue in the United States. Here are some resources for expectant mothers, and information about a safe and healthy pregnancy and delivery. All the best to you!
This video is dedicated in loving memory of my medical school classmate, Marlene Dominguez-Hicks

3 Anesthesia & me also do you think that mid-level provider encroachment is a problem for aspiring anesthesiologist? I am worried about becoming an anesthesiologist and hospitals preferring nurse anesthetist and other providers over anesthesiologist.
