Two days ago, my family and I had to put our 12 year old English pointer, Layla, to sleep and we are just horribly devastated. She was an amazingly efficient and brilliant bird dog, and a total princess at the same time, lol. I have never seen your videos before, but seeing your puppy reminded me so much of our dog and it brought back a lottttttt of really sweet memories :’) so thank you. I needed that:)
You rock, I love your methods. We have our own Fawkes, an 8 week old Brittany who already has a nice natural retrieve. Keeping fetch games short keeps our puppy loving it without getting bored. Keep these videos coming. Would love to come out for the three month training course!
@@StandingStoneKennels thanks I definitely will! My dream job for sure. We're just getting our program started but you can check out my first two dogs at Pioneer Bird Dogs on Facebook. Keep up the good work, I'm constantly looking for more. More force fetch videos from start to finish would be welcome.
I have a 7 month old gsp lab mix who recently, more often than not doesnt pick up the bumper. He will get excited for my throw and run to it everytime but won’t pick the bumper up when he gets to it. Almost like it’s a check point for him. Gives it a quick sniff and he’s off doing something else. What can I do to get him on track? My plan is to train him for ducks but that seems so far off right now. Thanks!
Looking for advice. I’ve got a 13wk GSP who shows a lot of promise retrieving inside the house, but loses interest very fast or almost wont retrieve outside. What should I do to make him want to play fetch outside?
Sounds like your puppy might lack a little retrieving drive and focus right now. Sometimes letting them mature a bit and decreasing the amount of time and opportunities they get to play retrieving games will increase their excitement and enjoyment of the retrieving game.
Hello! My husband and I enjoy your training videos. Very instructive! We have learned quite a bit. I have a question that no one seems to be able to answer: Why do dogs develop fatty tumors at a certain age? (Our springer spaniel who is 9 years old, has them throughout his body.) This happened to our other dog as well after the age of 10. Is this due to the breed, the food, or something else? Delia and Steve Bottoms
Wondering if we can't use the words "release" or "drop" with everyday objects that our 3 month old may or may not always take haha, do we have to take it out of his mouth everytime for any reason??
Christopher DiBona yes!! We are trying to develop a strong hold. The clicker is charged and associated with food rewards. If we click that does mark and end the behavior, but it will also tend to develop a a drop. If incorporated properly it can still be used!
Great job Fox! I love how playful she is! I was just wondering, once your dog's are old enough, do you do any force training as well? If so, how does that transition work?
@@StandingStoneKennels that's awesome! I'm getting my first versatile hunting dog this fall and just trying to set it up for the most success I can without overdoing any training, your videos have been super helpful and I love seeing the progress the puppies make!

We have an 11 month old gsp who will go get the object, but when she comes back she darts and tries to play keep away. Completely our fault as we have children and it was a game they always played. This is our first bird dog and so training her has been a huge learning curve for us. How can we help to break this bad habit?
I was in a petco the other day looking for a wire crate and they were doing a obedience class using clicker training. Thats definitely not something you want to experience in a group, in a store. I'm sure those puppies were thoroughly confused after a couple minutes
I have a question for ya I have a black Labrador retriever interest in retrieving birds but LOVES retrieving baseball any help would be greatly appreciated

Pup is doing really good.
Can't wait to see all her progress. Good job!

This is a game changer for my retrieving games with my gsp
Another great video...thank you. Most people don't recommend tug of war but I like your reasoning
Joe Mount everything can be overdone, but included properly it can be very helpful!
Love all your videos. I have a 15 week or old GSP and a 4 year old. Wish I could have watched your training videos 4 years ago haha
anthony leone we are glad you like the videos! Have you checked out our Patreon account?
Good girl Fox! My dog isn't interested in the bumper, but he loves to chase the Kong wubba!
allieo88 use what your pup loves!!
Shes getting so big!
Awesome video. Can't wait to see the next one.
Thanks for being a fan!
Excellent video!

I’m wondering what additional step I could do if I want puppy to drop it. Our dog won’t be hunting so would like him to drop the bumper or ball.
Typically this will take less steps.
StandingStoneKennels so then would I reward after he drops ball ? Thank you !!!!

It is due to inbreeding

what is the brand of that clicker-Please.
We sell them at www.standingstonekennels.com

Bethany Starr we do formal retreiving work once the pup is mentally. This is typically close to 12 months old.
@@StandingStoneKennels is that normally after a pup has had a full season of mock hunts in the field? (pigeons and launchers)
Bethany Starr sometimes even more training. Usually after a season of hunting depending on the dog.

Video was helpful just bought a 4 month old chocolate lab and he doesn’t have a drive to retrieve yet
Another great video. Got my pup now he is nearly 9 weeks old now. Any tips on training at that age?
Denver Skinner check out our play lists and you can find rogue, quest, and now fox! It will show exactly what we taught them at 9 weeks!
When do you announce winners for giveaways?
kylie angers weekly on our social pages! Either Instagram or Facebook!
Hmm ok i must have missed the one for the dt collar and bed
You had me. Right up till the end it was perfect. Then collar conditioning.

heather sch developing a stronger recall would be the best way!
Still working on Fox’s biting?
Haha nope!!

My dog hear's the "here" command and drops it and comes back to me confused
Try building some recall momentum first before introducing any retrieves in your training session.
All this time I've had the same problem and now I find out I didn't build some recall momentum first.
