He even knows when comes on , because he knows Brandon's voice now. This book not only gives you Brandon's sure fire way to train your dog, it also gives you insight into what makes Brandon such an amazing trainer & the wonderful work he does with shelter animals.I highly recommend this book to all new & old puppy parents!
Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!
Congrats!! My familg is probably getting on in about four weeks. One of my dad's customers is going to let us buy one of their new puppies at a great price :D Enjoy your new bundle of fluff!!
I just got a lab puppy she’s so adorable but I hate her biting but I’m been patient and trying to get her to stop but her potty training is amazing she almost always goes outside I just can’t wait till she can sleep through the night
My rescue yellow lab didn't get the clicker training but she loves us and she stays out of enough trouble for a companion/pet with no puppies. She's a good dog. She usually comes when your say come and if she thinks there's a treat for her she will sit :)
Great video! Sprig is adorable and really fits his name! We are bringing home a little 8 week old black lab on 4/4, and this is a great refresher... thank you! I'm a little concerned that socializing her may be um, difficult with the 'social distancing' going on.. but we shall persevere!

I'm going to pick up my Shetland Sheepdog puppy tomorrow. TY for the videos. I look forward to watching many more. These are enormously helpful & appreciated.
I am trying to completely train my pup with zero treats using the Comand Collar, basically a plastic soft, super mild correction collar designed to mimic a mother dogs "pinch". Positive words like "good girl" and just "good" get her all happy and perky. Just as a treat does. Not a single treat has been used to encourage the basic commands, My 10 and a half week old white lab has learned the basics, "Sit" , "Stay" , "Off", "Leave It", "Go To Your Bed" , and are already seeing a maybe 10% potty training accidents. Now I don't correct for potty training with the Command Collar, just put her outside if she has an accident then maybe 10 or 15 sec later depending on if she is waiting patiently or walking around. ( I am letting her walk around to encourage more independence as her separation issue is pretty hard on her right now). Now for the separation, a treat or 2 to encourage the happiness when alone is the most we have done there. And her treat is peanut butter or a softened bone in her kennel before we leave. We will be starting "heel" and "down" these next 2 weeks. Like you said shorter sessions, and our frequency is important, she can do at most 15min before you can tell she begins to lose her mind lol, and 2 to 3 sessions a day, and ofc constantly watching and verbally correcting for "leave it" and "off" Now she by no means has masters these, but clearly understands what needs to be done, she as puppies do, has the attentionspan of a baby , and breaks her commands fairly often, but the most important thing to take from this is she is beginning to understand what each command means and is expected from her. Play sessions after each training session, and verbal and physical praise after each correct execution are the key, and she is extremely happy!
The threat of torture works for Kim Jong Un, so why not for me? After all, how many protests do you see in North Korea? The threat of punishment is clearly superior for obedience training.
I’ve been doing this with my setter puppy for two weeks and she isn’t as good at it as this pup. So, it doesn’t go like this for every dog. Each pup will be different. My pup gets it, but isn’t really into it. Keep going and be consistent. Hunting dogs are strong willed and can be stubborn! This wasn’t Sprig’s first go at this!!
I am a huge fan! I have a couple questions, 1. I've had my pup for four days now, he isn't as amped up and excited as yours during feeding time. He roams around quite a bit and I almost have to take the food to him at times, what can cause this? 2.Also, what kind of food are you using for your training sessions? (Brand?, Crunchy or chewy?) 3. Can it take a full week to charge the clicker? THANK YOU!!
Thanks for being a fan and congrats on your new puppy! 1. Keeping a puppy focused during training sessions can be tough especially depending on his age! We can help more with specifics on how to improve his eating habits and focus for training sessions either via our online courses or through patreon! 2. We feed Eukanuba Puppy Pro and use that for their food rewards. 3. It can take that long especially depending on age and drive and desire of your puppy!
How many sessions is to many to give up on the clicker training. I’m on my third session with my 8 week old black lab and he isent catching on. Any suggestions?
do you use the same techniques for an older puppy .... ours is almost 2 with no clicker training but some very basic puppy obedience training so sits and downs and will mark place but has hard time staying for any length of time would like to use clicker for when we are out and about .. he is King Charles Cavelier Spaniel and Beagle cross .... hoping for scent training later
Yes, you can absolutely use the same techniques with an older dog. Definitely would recommend starting with utilizing a clicker to mark the behaviors that your dog already knows and rewarding them with treats. Then you would be able to move onto collar conditioning those behaviors as well! If you would like additional help with collar conditioning check us out on Patreon: www.patron.com/standingstonekennels
i am getting a puppy in July. i was wondering when i should start this. should i wait a day so they are comfortable or should i start immediately? btw love your videos very helpful👍
So you’re feeding him pieces of his lunch not treats correct? I believe you said that helps because he’s hungry? When or do you recommend using treats to train? We can pick up our chocolate Labrador puppy who will be 8 weeks old on Halloween and I am trying to figure this all out. 🤯
Just got my lab puppy. He’s seven weeks old, starting at 8 weeks old best time to start charge the clicker and start training or would a little earlier be alright as well?
Any recommendations for excessive biting? We have a 9 week old retriever and she frequently bites our hands and ankles when working with her. Have tried redirection with toy, time outs, pushing on lower jaw with thumb, but nothing seems to help.
I am looking to adopt my 1st dog a Labrador mix puppy and I am looking to learn how to be a great owner. any suggestions would be appreciated including videos to watch
Thank you for your videos have an 8-week old puppy we have been clicker training for a few days still doesn't quite have it yet but is doing better now that I have started to hold his morning meal for an extra two hours before training sessions. I am having issues with him bitting my kids (2 and 7) he tries with me but I ignore move away and he doesn't do it again but my kids are not as dedicated to his training as me, what can I do other than not let my kids play with the puppy? Also, when do you introduce gunfire? Also, I live in AK going moose hunting in a couple of weeks is he too young to go out with me? I want to expose him but do not know how far to take him.
Ones you used the clicker, do you always need to carry it with you? Like when you are going for a walk and you say here, do you need the clicker and then reward him?
Do you have a recommended order to view your training videos? Obviously this is the first, but do you offer a course or list of viewing order for your videos?
We got an 8 week old Yellow Lab the other week. I am wondering how you are able to give him the foot without losing your finger? He has drawn blood on me twice already. My fingers are raw! Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Jake Rand this is completely fine an 8 week lab is just getting its teeth coming in so biting or chewing feels generally nice for the dog only give him the foot when he just woke up so he doesn’t bite. Try that and reply if something else happens.
