Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

Ive been watching an enormous amount of fox these past few days. I am getting my first GSP at 8 weeks old and im very excited and sort of nervous. I want her to be well trained and one everyone loves.

I will be a new puppy parent soon and was wondering what you would suggest when trying to potty train in an apartment setting. Id like to train him to go on patch on my balcony as well as the green area outside my front door. How can I teach my pup to associate both the balcony sliding door and front door as avenues to go potty outside?

Super easy thing to do with the squeakers is take a small screwdriver and just push through the fabric to punch out the squeaker! We've converted all our toys to non-squeakers :)
Hi, love your video! I'm picking up an 8-week Pom pup next month and will be potty training him to go in a designated spot indoors. How can I encourage him to go? Do I just walk him to the spot every 15mins and say "go potty"?
How long/often do you do these training sessions per day? And, what do you do with the puppy while you are not doing a training session? I am home with my puppy most of the day, so I am trying to ascertain what to do between training sessions to prevent accidents. Thank you

I've seen a lot of trainers keep them on a lead while potty training them to keep a better eye on them around the house and apparently giving them too much space from the get go is a bad idea? Is that just for normal house dogs because the person I talked to said it's not a good idea to keep hunting dogs on a lead all the time. Super confused. Just bought the clicker and Easylead super good on those, but still confused on the whole potty training thing since I've always owned older dogs.
That tug of war thing has been my experience as well .... I didn't have any problems. You can turn it into a fetch game

Do males usually urine mark a lot inside the home? Would potty training stop urine marking?
Make sure you have a doggie door , and you'll be fine, puppy pads are a must, My GSP is three years now. The first year was difficult , I'm so glad , I tough it out

I am getting a new GSP pup in four weeks. I would like to crate train her. Where do you guys let your puppy sleep at night time? Do you ever let them sleep in your room in their crate? How often do you get up with them as new puppies to take them potty?

Hi! I just got a pup and Im teaching him to go potty outside. My problem is that my backyard is a garden and theres a lot distracting him from eliminating outside, is there a way around that? I have had him for a bit over two weeks now and he's learned how to sit, lay down, turn around, and give high fives. So he's a smart dog, I just cant get him to pee and poop outside consistently, even though I am taking him out as often as I can
Are you able to take them out for that. My pup is 8 weeks old and the vets say I can’t tAke him out right now even tho he has received his first and second round of vaccines?

Jim Pasley we crate the puppy while we are gone. With a young pup like this it’s going to be best if you make it home on a lunch!
How many weeks old was fox when you made this video? We just got our second Male GSP and he’s 14 weeks old this week. I have him on a schedule but when it’s raining and really cold, he really doesn’t like going outside.

Have the kennel near you to help be able to hear when your pup needs to go out. Over night potty stops may last up to a week or so...
What brand is the crinkle toy with no squeaker in it? I can’t find one anywhere.....

What age is the right time to take the puppy home from his mom? (Viszla)

When they do have an accident in the house, is there any reprimand or just immediately take them outside?
You should never reprimand as this can cause anxiety for them. If you catch them in the act just quickly take them to the desired spot asap to finish
Gonna be new parents to our gsp puppy this Saturday! Some people tell me to give my puppy a treat after they potty outside every time. Is that a good idea or no?

If a two months old puppy can hold 2 hours (+1) her bladder, why it is neccessary to setup the timer for 15min?Thank you for the answer.
That would be when crate. When out playing the puppy will pee more often and where ever she wants. 15 minute timer helps teach good habits be preventing the bad ones :)

Jim Pasley none of it!! Unsupervised that is :) We allow them almost anywhere we are while we are watching them.

What do you do if they do potty in the house
Travis Mestas that’s a great question!
First, keep in mind accidents are mostly our fault for not paying close enough attention to the cues from our puppy. Now on the how to deal with them. Timing is extremely important in dog training and this includes potty training. You have two main scenarios. 1: you catch your puppy mid pee or poop a firm “no” or verbal correction followed by taking them outside where it’s ok to potty. This in technique should eliminate most accidents. 2: the second scenario is for when you make a mistake and walk in the room to find a potty spot or poop and have no idea when it happened.. all you need to do here is clean it up and pay more attention. Hope this helps!
