    My childhood dog was wonderful, but admittedly not well socialized 😕 we get a new puppy in a few weeks and will DEFINITELY be following this advice to socialize our new fur baby (plus the first two points as well obviously)

    The eyes of the German Shorthaired Pointer are the best eyes of any dog. I fell in love instantly with my baby's puppy eyes and I'm still totally in love with them ten years on. She still uses them on me to the utmost every day to manipulate me round to her wishes. Those eyes can talk to me! No crates though!

      Hell, I brought my beautiful lady home at just four weeks. Yes I know, too early to be away from mom but mom wasn't well. My tiny handful is now ten years old and a more loyal, obedient, loving companion I couldn't wish for.

    I am getting a British Lab this summer, he will be our second British Lab, and I was wondering if you have any tips on helping my two labs create a great bond, how to properly introduce them to each other, and when the puppy gets older, how to introduce hunting together? Thanks!

    Hi StandingStone, Your videos are vey informative and useful. I am going to have an 8 weeks old puppy soon. I want to ask what is a good ratio/balance between using crate or dogbed. (I meann dogbed not in the crate) Naturally when the puppy is unettended I am going to use dogbed. Shall I use dogbed in playpen in the early stage? Thanks for your answer. Take care Peter

    I have really been enjoying many of your videos and am learning a lot. I live in the Northeast and plan I buying a hunting lab puppy in the near future. I know many people purchase a pup in the spring to train them all summer to hunt in the fall. That isn't an option for this spring so my question is with the cold winters we can have should I purchase my pup in late July or wait until the early spring to purchase a pup for training? Any help you could give would be great! Thanks and thanks for you videos. Keep up the great work.

    Great video! Lot's of good reinforcement of the things I'm trying to do with my new puppy. I did come away with some "aha" moments. It was a little distracting listening to you and beautiful background piano music while a GSP puppy has his BM. :) JK

    What is purpose of putting towel over crate? Thanks 😊

    • @napriaa5175
      @napriaa5175 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It helps to avoid them getting excited or hyper or nervous (about possibility of being ignored) whenever anyone passes the crate, at the possibility of being let out. If they don't get let out or attention when being passed by while they're in the crate they can get very depressed which is bad. It's like an unnecessary torture. Covering the crate can help keep them calm and more emotionally stable during their experience in the crate.

    YAWA question: bringing home our first GSP puppy on January 9th. We have a 4.5 year old lab rescue which we adopted at 4 months. I upland hunt and worked with a trainer (probably more for me than him). We trained recall to the word “heel”. The trainers thought was heel will mean be close to my left side. So if I’m walking him on heel he is close to my side and if we are in the field and I want to recall when I say heel, he comes to my side. It’s worked well, but is there any reason I would want to train recall to a different word from heel? Looks like you guys use here, which is super close to heel. And you teach heel for healing.

    • @ashtonsquires3102
      @ashtonsquires3102 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The word itself shouldn’t matter. As long as you’re consistent with the word and what you expect to happen when you say it, you’ll be fine. You could use the word “pineapple” if you wanted and it would be fine as long as you trained it properly.

    • @prohjac
      @prohjac 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ashtonsquires3102 Thanks! So far our new pup is doing great with recall. We have not worked hard yet on heeling, but will begin that process now that she has a lot of confidence.

    Socialisation: they need to meet all kinds and colours of people, black, white, Asian, beards, tattoos, children of various ages, other dogs as you observed. A relaxed well socialised dog is a joy, a neurotic dog is something else, and hard to train out of it.

    How bad of an idea is it to take home 2 brother puppies? Lol

    • @pumpkinhead8593
      @pumpkinhead8593 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wouldn't recommend it. Giving adequate attention and training to one puppy can be a challenge, two is nearly impossible for most people. Plus, if you keep two puppies together 24/7 they will bond with each other much more than with their human, making training even more difficult, because they simply won't be as interested in their human family. I would wait at least a couple of years before adding a new puppy.
