  • This might be the best news for Helix fans who love running big pedalboards. Line6 just released the HX ONE, which features EVERY SINGLE HELIX EFFECT in a pedalboard-friendly, stereo unit. For folks like me who love building big boards with individual effects, the HX ONE is perfect because it gives me access to everything I could want without monopolizing too much space or being stuffed with too many unused features and sounds. But what do YOU think? Is the HX ONE for you? Drop a comment below and join the conversation!

    I think the problem is that for some folks, if it says Line 6 then they automatically assume it is a multi-fx modeler. This is more akin to the Eventide H9, but much cheaper.

      @@Stereostupid I think it's primarily because for about $50 more, you can get an HX Effects on the used market; and, you get 6 times the number of effects at once. If the HX One could do three effects, or even just two effects at one time, no one would be hating on it. I was late to the Line 6 party. I bought in about 2-3 weeks ago. And, I was going to get the HX One, but it just made more sense to get the HX Effects on the used market, which I did get for $350. It was definitely the right move for me.

      its not cheap. compare it to a used hxstomp for 400. flow is a nice feature they should have implemented on their products befor. modulating modulation is nothing new. option paralysed guitarists have ruined the market an r&d buy paying to much for single algo digital pedals. this has to end. its just the same dumb dsp chip running a dsp. analog boutique pedal makers have all the cost and charge 200-300. this fell out of the ass of some asian factory designed by some office-poopers in us. lame product.

      @@dasczwo got my hx one for 250$ on sale and have seen them used on ebay for 200-230, so you can pay less than the msrp just by searching around. It is cheap for a pedal that can do everything 250 excellent effects. Just one strymon pedal which does only one effect costs almost twice as much new. Also, where are you seeing a good condition hx stomp for 400? Have yet to see it for less than 500.

    I cannot understand the backlash on this pedal. I have had a M5 on my board for like 10 years as my cover my bases/jack of all trades pedal that my other pedals don't cover. Been waiting for Line 6 to make a new M5 for years, it is that vital to me. I will buy at least one of these with no hesitation at all.

    • @AmbientEndeavors
      @AmbientEndeavors  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I'm right there with you. I think we're kind of in an age where expectations for gear have risen so high that we kind of expect every possible feature to be squeezed into every pedal. I think it's a fantastic essentially "reboot" of the M5 and a really convenient way to grab any of the HX effects catalog in a small package.

      @BaldingElephant 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      For a stereo pedal with the Flux feature $299 is very reasonable market value without even beginning to talk about the variety of effects and use cases.
      Beyond that, Line 6 has to be very careful pricing new products in a way that doesn’t render current product lines obsolete. A lot of companies shoot themselves in the foot metaphorically by trying to make every single product do everything, have every option, and appeal to the widest audience possible. Everyone would love the full helix packed into a single pedal profile, but that would encroach on the other products market space.
      The HX stomp already does what I see most people wanting the hx one to do.

      al love the M5, and was also looking forward for a smaller version, I bought this one but the M5 is still better. The HX One misses some basic functions like saving the presets in bypass position. I hope they will include that soon on the next firmware update. In simplicity, the M5 is still better. And I think it should be cheaper too. I have it and so far a little disappointing, but waiting for the updates.

    Exactly why I just purchased one. Been down the multi effect road many times but enjoy it more for home use. Too many options and I only need a few effects. Plus when you incorporate them with your regular pedals they sometimes suck a bit of tone or add some that you don’t like. The HX one seems to be a great concept. How often do you use a phaser, a harmonizer, pitch drop etc.. Here you have a small footprint and access to sounds that in my case are sometimes called for. Especially if you are called on to play a wide variety of styles. Great video.

    Maybe I’m strange but I just use it as my current standalone reverb pedal. The plate and room are lovely… lots of people like the helix verbs … I run a low mix anyway so I can’t notice a difference between the One and my old strymon flint.. a two trick pony .. And it’s half the price, so I set it and forget it.
    Plus if I ever need some other whacky sound or an eq solution for my acoustic .. it’s all in there.
    I had a stomp but didn’t use most of the functionality.
    I’m happy … One works for me.

    Great review! I'll admit I was skeptical at first but I definitely see the many great uses for this as opposed to their other offerings. One thing I feel like isn't mentioned enough in other reviews is that the flux function really makes it a two-preset pedal rather than just one sound. I'd compare the HX One to the new Strymon V2 pedals. Same-ish size, two variations of a sound at the ready, midi-accessable presets, and like you mentioned, you're not limited to "it's only a reverb pedal". The ability to have the entire Line 6 library for $299 is pretty impressive.
    The ONLY thing I wondered, and this is pure speculation, is that it felt to me like this NOT having amp modeling to compete with the Iridium/UA/Walrus modelers felt like Line 6 conceding that their amp modeling isn't as good as the others. Again, I run a Helix and am COMPLETELY satisfied with my tone in every single way. I know the HX Stomp already exists, but even that is a little big for some people, especially compared to the tiny footprint of the Walrus Audio ampsims. Maybe there isn't enough demand, but I think this being able to run an amp/cab/ir would have made it even more incredible of a swiss army knife. Maybe there were technical limitations.

    I don't have any experience with the L6 stuff at all except the DL4. But this seems really cool to me for all the options you have in a small pedal and the flux feature. I don't get all the outrage. I think it could fit really well in my setup - it's like a Swiss army knife.

I ditched my analog delays and I've been really indecisive about whether or not I can squeeze another type of modulation + another bigger reverb. @@waynedoherty7758for certain people or certain workflows the Stomp provides more power and functionality, but for folks like myself who just don't need/want to sting multiple effects together but DO want access to specific HX effects, the HX ONE (and its price tag) make a lot more sense. It's clearly an update and replacement for the M5 which still lives on tons of session and even well known professional player boards. I've had a Helix. I've had a stomp. Neither were my jam. I'm a tube amp and pedal board guy. The HX One is useful for me, as someone who wants to record or jam with an occasional effect , but doesn't want 9 modulation pedals, a massive controller, tons of sub menus, or hours tweaking for sounds. It's a swiss army knife, that takes up a single pedal space, using standard 9V power supply. @@amremorseright, and you should care about the song. You obviously just care less about tone which is your prerogative, as is my prerogative to prefer analog pedals/tone. A recommendation: be less judgmental and more kind when approaching people. You may find life is a bit more enjoyable when not making it all about you. Ciao.

      @@AmbientEndeavors I mean for a single effect it's just to much for me..If it was at least dual effects but like that I just think 320euros is just to much .maybe around 220 I would think about it.

    flux should have been included long ago. slowly companies start inmplementing it. modulating modulation is an old concept from modular synthesis. WE guitarists are just a bit slow up there. and we pay too much for lame single algo dsp based pedals. eventide, strymon line 6 uafx slicing out algos one pedal a time. no real innovastion. uafx started with "buy this box, replace your whole studio" then understood that guitarists will buy every box just to fill their room if they feel it sounds like a studio.. 300 is just too much. 150. ok. this shouldnt have cost more then a tc flashback delay. oh tc, who killed you? they were pushing the pedal envelope, not the price bracket. miss miss.
