I'm a (not Pro) pedalboard into a real amp guy who bought the HX One a few weeks back and love it! I've been cycling through drive pedals and compressors at the front of my board and it's been great. Different drive pedal for my Les Paul and a different drive for my Strat and a compressor for my Tele etc etc. It's super easy to navigate and I'm getting fantastic sounds from it.
I use my HX One in the loop of my HX Stomp. This allows me to place a high-DSP effect (like 12 string, or digital capo) into my signal chain WITHOUT completely depleting the DSP in the Stomp. It also allows me to use any modulation I want with my amp model of choice by changing the modulation selected on the HX One (modulation is just an example).I certainly can't add 4 modulations into the signal chain due to block and DSP limitations. And, for anyone that was considering an H9, this is a more economical way to get that swiss army knife onto your traditional (non-multi-fx) pedalboard. My first impression was that the HX One was too expensive for just one effect. But now that I have seen how I can use it, I realize that it is much more than just one effect, and well worth the price. If I just wanted a delay, this wouldn't be my first choice. But I am loving having this utility player on my Stomp board. Maybe less valuable to a Helix floor user since you have more blocks and DSP, but it still might serve some purposes I haven't thought of.
I don't see people questionning the existence of the Eventide H9, it's basically the "same thing". I like mine!
Eventide ways came off as a second tear product, I could be wrong but that’s how many people probably see it
@@michaelreyes9997 Eventide is usually seen as super premium.
I am interested in a podcast about digital modeling lol... Just started using stomp xl direct to house. And definitely hit some snags on the road. Mainly with levels l, especially when playing lead
Check it out! It's called "The Silent Stage " and on all platforms
I realize I just did not get it. For a pedal lover, it’s the opportunity to try almost any pedal with his actual pedalboard.
I don't understand why people are weird about this, but somehow love the M5. Its an M5 but better.
Line 6 really needs to highlight that this has a tuner. You can replace your tuner with 100+ effects.
I tried. But put the tuner back on. Live i need to instantly have access to the tuner. I check the tune during any silent moment I can. I can’t wait 2 seconds of holding 2 buttons
@@Ottophil2 seconds its not that much lol
I have one mostly for the reason that some effects (specifically the pitch effects) that in chain just eats the hell out of any of the helix modelers dsp. The Hx one allows me to free up that space along other little implementations like noise gate, input gain, tuner, etc. Although, I did run one of the drives and sounds great too!
I run in front of my Headrush Mx5 btw. It plays well with it 👍
Exactly
I'm probably going to be getting one soon for this very reason. Since it's capable of being controlled with MIDI, I can program changes from my Helix and have my Poly Capo or some other preset on it change per preset on Helix.
I mainly use fractal but I have another board with standalone pedals and I absolutely love having the hx one on this board! Very impressed with this pedal.
I could honestly see myself running two of these
Same feeling
My setlist has two songs that use an Octaver, one that uses a Tremolo, and two that use a Phaser. It's a simple matter to let all those sit in a Floor preset between songs. But that's three different presets in a Stomp backup. I get it.
Im gonna try and just flip the pre post pairs in the back. So the verbage makes sense to me. Ive been running an h9 too long (and itll be next to the hx1) to change now
I need something not expensive to use with the Tone X, I guess this is a nice one!
Love it! It's just like with the Stomp: you'll keep thinking of new ways of using it, and it will probably work as you'd want it to.
I like your honesty. You acknowledged your initial reaction to this pedal. Then offered us an updated perspective on how guys of your caliber might use this. Good guy! Cool product!!
I use one in between my UA Lion and UA Ox Stomp. It's awesome!
That's definitely how I look at this one. It lets you have a board with only the pedals you actually use on a regular basis plus one instead of all of the pedals you use on a regular basis plus the X number of things you that you think you *might* need.
Do you know if there’s a way to have the effect turned off when selecting a preset? Switching presets in the middle of a song is hard when the effect is automatically on once selected.
Great question, would love to know too
The pre-post explanation was very helpful. Do the left (mono) in-out jacks route into the front, and the right jacks route the loop? This is a big deal to me as you showed the delays behave very differently...Thanks!
Yes I'm pretty sure that's how it goes (from memory). Thanks for the kind words and for checking it out !
My reaction was similar in the beginning, to me it felt like Line6 was just trolling all of us wanting Helix2 or whatever. But then I remembered falling into a youtube rabbit hole a couple of years ago about the M5 which, at the time of it's release, it seemed to me like the idiot child of the M family; yet many pro guitarists apparently fell in love with it as a Swiss Army Knife pedal to have in their session pedalboards thus avoiding to have something way too big to carry around for that delay or modulation they might unexpectedly need. With those in mind the HX One makes perfect sense as an M5 replacement, not only it has a similar form factor but it also carries both the modern Helix FX and the legacy ones those guitarists know and love making it great for whoever is skeptical of upgrades in it's work equipment.
Not surprised. Most "record" Producers want to hear things familiar to them. It takes an enormous lurch to change mind sets! Like a brand new genre coming out of nowhere...
Best, Pete.
Initially I didn’t like this. Now look at it like a delay pedal with a bunch of different delays in it. Or a reverb pedal with different verbs in it. If I look at it that way then it has great value. How much does a good delay pedal cost these days?
One sound at a time. Dont think so
Hi, Im operating my HX One stereo.
But when I switch to true bypass, a signal only comes out on one side. On DSP bypass it's completely normal on stereo.
How to solve this? Or does stereo not work on true bypass? Please help!
If it had reverb in addition to a single effect it would be way more useful
I agree.
I use the HX One AND an HX Stomp
I bought Hx One some time ago, I'm happy with it, but the menu settings of M5/M9/M13 are better than Hx One
I am really blown away by this thing! Using it with my Stomp will take some processing load off of the Stomp. I also love that this can be run in the fx loop and midi with the Stomp.
By the way Steve I got the idea to use this because of you use of the Eventide!
I also love that I can pop this on my analog pedal board and use it with them and save a lot of pedal space with the 4 cable method. Definitely a keeper!
Line 6 makes some of the best designed stuff in the music world. The Helix even after all these years is still a main stream product. I hate the fact that I can’t stand the sound of their products. It sounds digital to me. I don’t know why but it’s highly disappointing.
Meh
Clean sound on the guitar is cheesey
hold your nose
For folks who already have an HX Stomp they could use this in conjunction with it to offload some DSP heavy effects so they can get more into their signal chain on the stomp. Or use it with a pedal board to add that unique but seldom used effect when you don't want to spend 300+ $ on a single use case effect when this allows you to swap it out to be sometime Else when you need it to be something Else on your rig. Definitely for the folks that use real amps with real pedals
First video to actually explain this thing. Thanks Steve!

okay
Definitely makes sense for a lot of people/situations. Only thing for me is, every time they teach this old dog a new trick, it makes me think they're not working on anything else.
Id Love to hear all the verbs and delays this thing can muster...
The Pre-Post thing… ask yourself where is the Amp? Pre means the amp is before the Line6 and post is the opposite.
It should be where the effect is in relation to the external device in the loop
If it did two effects at once I'd probably buy one. I've been tempted lately, but I don't think I'd use it very often, if at all.
I have the same thinking as yours...
Whats the Guitar and where to buy one// Kent.
I have one and I like it very much.
👏👏👏
I like the HX one on my pedalboard 😉
Defo up for that bro
It's a really cool product but the pricing is pretty meh. Used HX Effects aren't a whole lot more and would give you way more effects at once. if it offered 3-4 at once, it'd sell like hotcakes.
then Flux would not be possible.
I agree 100% with u, bro @DarthV506...
friend, good afternoon! all good? Do you know what the consumption in amps of the hx stomp is? its original source is 3ah, but there are people who say that it only consumes 1ah. Have you already tested this?
My whole power supply is 2mA and runs my whole board with no issues
@@SteveSterlacci Bro...do u mean 2 Amp instead 2 miliAmp (u stated 2 mA....mA means miliAmp.... 1 Amps equals to 1000 mA)? 2mA is to weak to even run an analog drive pedal. which typically requires minimum about 10mA. I apologies if i am wrong...🙏
Sounds like a tin can
You've played through a tin can? What was the signal chain and howd you amplify?
I own the gearbox with the halo. And sorry but this thing a toy next to them. But hay good video
Have you tried the Mission expression pedal with the HX One?
Once you use a modeller in your chain, you introduce latency. Your signal stops being "pure and analog-ey". So then, why not use a processor? I guess some people cannot survive without their Klon, etc? I think either be all analog, or be all digital.
As somebody with a mix of 5 digital pedals and a couple analog pedals, I can confirm that latency is not a problem for me.
Latency is a problem recording into my DAW via an audio interface, so I'm not just oblivious to latency. If the latency gets above 50ms or so, I notice it. So all those digital pedals must be adding less than that. I would guess less than 20ms.
latency is not noticeable for me. I like the immediacy of tweaking knobs on my pedals, but also like the flexibility of having 200+ possible effects available to me. I have a Helix too and barely use it
MEH
This pedal is perfect for the real pedalboard player. What makes it even more useful is if you are using a good switcher (Gigrig G3, Mastermind, Boss ES8, etc.) as you can have the HX One in a mono/sterio loop and pull up any effect via midi and also place the effect before or after your amps pre-amp using the switchers functionality. Really is a great multi-effects pedal.
