I remember seeing this girl in the hilariously bad (or random? whacky. yep, thats it) PM board game I played with my sister. "Who is she anyways?!" But I liked her hair, so we came to like her. I played it and the exploration stuff was SO broken! But I agree, the snes-style sprite animations were so cute I came to like the game enough.
So. After watching your videos for a while now I finally decided to give Princess Maker a chance and I'm absolutely addicted. Don't know why I thought I wouldn't be because I love nothing more than a stat raising sim but I tried 3. In the 4 days since I've gotten it I have managed to get 5 different endings and am about to go in for another right now. It's like TMGS where I can get through it quickly so I keep going back to play more haha.
imo PM3 is the best title in the series to get initiated to the series since it's easy, fast-paced, addicting, and family friendly. And of course, the graphics are pretty!
Merry Christmas! 🎅 I didn't know this Princess Maker game existed! It looks cool! :> It's so interesting how developers made entirely new games when they ported them to different consoles! One of my favorite examples of this is The Sims 2! I had it on my DS and it was VERY different from the PC version, but it was very fun. I forgot to mention this last time, but I'm really digging the errantry mechanic featured in the early PM games!
I think PM:L was quite different because it was not developed by Gainax, but a whole another team in Takara. Similar to Micro Cabin who was responsible for the PM2 PCE and Saturn ports, but instead Takara chose to go for a brand new look. Errantry in PM1&2 was hugely popular, so a lot of fans were disappointed it was taken out, and we never got one like it since. You can say the later titles focused more on the 'nurturing' aspect of the genre; still, it was a bummer. I only ever played the Sims2 on the PC. I always considered the console Sims 'inferior' since you can't install mods, but guess I was wrong!
You weren't lying when you said you'd post soon! Because of your last video, I picked up PM 3. I still couldn't get the ruling Queen ending (few strategy are available in English ^^') but I'm having a lot of fun! Happy holidays and happy new year to you too!
Thanks! I'll try to have a good end year :) I haven't really looked up any guides on PM3 in English, but South Korea also loves PM3 so there are a ton of info on the precise way for a Queen Regnant ending, but where's the fun in that ;) Hope you get it!
Awesome video, in the early 2000s there was not a lot of English info about the bugs and game play or the game was called untranslatable into english because of the coding. So im glad to watch more information about the game play.
I am not familiar with fan translations, but I for some reason thought SFC games were easier to hack since from what I see a lot of them are out there. I did not know coding makes a difference! I learned something today.
It's surprising that we got steam port of Go! Go! Princess but not this, even though it looks like a pretty competent PM game. I wonder if they didn't bother because of how old and obscure it is, or it's just another case of copyright shenanigans.
I think it's because Go!Go!Princess had a PC port while PM:L didn't. Then again, Pocket Daisakusen had it and still not released on Steam. And as you said it's bigass company Takara; who knows how complicated the copyright might be.
I thought she was originally made for the princess maker Go! Game! Very interesting. Could you make a video on the PMQ game? I love the little witchy vibes the character has!
Not sure if I have that much to say about PMQ. Maybe? But there will be a new Princess Maker with the protagonist for PMQ(Karen) as the daughter! It's a collaboration between Yonago Gainax and S.Korean developer D-Zard, and will be single player.
@@bapsago I did see this after seeing if PM series had any updates. I must say I'm excited, I'm sure PM4 was supposed to be Karen anyway if you look at old work. It's very similar to PM2 and PM3 style, I wish they had stuck with it. I never played PM4 but the style didn't appeal to me much. I love the old style where they all look hand drawn. (I also love that we are getting animated characters like most modern VNs.) 🙂
So, uh, about the TAS, how is Melody going to be able to carry her 6 foot chest with only a 5 1/2 foot figure? I mean, Cattleya was able to handle a 3 foot chest, so how can Melody?
How did the graphics hold up on a CRT TV back in the day? I put it through some CRT filters in an emulator (not a particularly accurate test) and the background looked gorgeous - the details pop - but the chibis got completely lost like I suspected. It's ironic, because all the detail looks pretty on a modern screen. PS: I've not been commenting on YT but I've still been watching!
No worries! I rarely comment on my fav peeps either. Too shy. I wouldn't know how it looked back in the day since as I mentioned in the video, the dirty pirate me used an late 90's emulator. It looked fine on my old PC monitor if my memory serves me correctly.
@@bapsago...Oh right, yeah. I don't know why I thought you were playing an emulator on a TV when you literally said the opposite 😂 I would guess it probably looks even better now than it did then. It's not necessarily the most impressive SFC game, but it's you can really tell they tried their hardest to give it as elegant as they could under the limitations of the system. I had to play a bit to test out my theory and even choosing tasks at random is pretty fun. If I had something like this on my GBA when I was in my tweens, I bet I would have played it to death. Merry Christmas (and a belated happy anniversary) 👸
I've haven't heard much about this specific Princess Maker, so it was fun to finally see what it's about~
That's why I'm here for! Glad you found it enjoyable :)

This underrated masterpiece needs a translation!!
True. Or a remake!

At least this one's funny.
