    You might consider mentioning here that you've learned reflectix isn't really an insulation. It's a reflective foil with virtually no R value. With an Rvalue of 21 as you stated, everyone would be using it on their floors and no one does. I'm a newbie and almost copied your path because it was so cheap and easy. After learning more, I thought I'd write this comment for the sake of other beginners. Love your PM and your videos.

      I used mine more for sound deadening than insulation. You also gain some r-value from the plywood. I do not have a high roof so building a large subfloor for an alternative insulation was out of the question.

      Thank you FOR THIS!!!! Oh man, I was about to go this route until i saw your comment and did a little more research.

    Reflectix is for RADIANT insulation!!!! In Windows to REFLECT radiant heat-sunlight! I want to know if your floor is cold this winter if you live in it. thanks, Best wishes,

      Is that Reflectix? The only way to get a R 21 from that, shouldn't there be at least a 3/4" gap?

    • @woltra1
      @woltra1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yup, I agree with Latifa here. Reflectix works to reflect SUNLIGHT (and thus the R values are calculated based upon that sun factor), since there is NO SUN in between your flooring this will not have the same R value at all. Use something different on the floor. We plan to use a BedRug mat digitally cut for the size of our van and lay plywood & flooring above that. Bottom line, in the winter floors will be cold unless you install floor heating. We lived in an RV before, and I advise get some good thick insulated house slippers and good quality socks to keep your toes toasty. In the winter I might also cut a patch of carpet (it will just act like a rug not attached) to cover the little flooring that will be left after all cabinets are done. I'll cut that into 1/2's or 1/3's so I can store it flat when I don't want to use it.

    reflectix does not insulate or sound deaden You need a layer of both to do it right If anything do sound deaden over the wheel wells thats where alot of your road noise comes in. If you want to add some insulation you can add closed cell foam and reflectix underneath your subfloor to keep costs down

    Hey man, like your videos and detail, but I can’t seem to locate the video where you installed the seat in back. I would love to see that because I need to do that for my family ride. Appreciate the good videos. Thanks.

    The guys at ProMaster forum say that reflectix under your subfloor will go flat over time. I did it this way but am nervous that I should redo it? Have you noticed anything like that?

    • @thefreezedryingcommunity
      @thefreezedryingcommunity  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not noticed anything but that doesn't mean that over time i might experience the same. What would you do instead?

    • @richcarter3718
      @richcarter3718 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thefreezedryingcommunity They all seem to recommend polyisocyanurate boards, but I don't know if any have actually tried reflectix and had it run flat. They also seem to dismiss the R value of reflectix w/o an air gap, but I'm with you and will take the height trade-off. Not sure I'm going to redo mine if yours has been fine. Just a little worried about having to rip everything out later if they're right.

    I noticed that you didn't cut out around the plastic covers that are at the front corners of the floor. You took them out before you made your template. Did you cut the bottoms off of the plastic covers when you put them back in?

    Did I hear this correctly...you are going to put the rubber floor back on top of your subfloor as your main floor??

    Where can I find the video on the second row seat install? I really need to see how you did this. Thanks.

    Nice floor...rubber Matt is good..those side panels came with your van ? I like them I guess promaster sells them..transit removable seats are great ..bed worked out nice..and I like your mattress choice cause you have to trim it...I might need to look into the euro driver seat base..I'm 6ft tall...your video is Great !!! I've been lookin for this *

    • @thefreezedryingcommunity
      @thefreezedryingcommunity  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would probably recommend the shorter set base at least for the driver. You are a few inches taller than me already, so once you add that additional height, your line of sight for the road will be affected.

    What your doing is exactly how I want it. I need second row of seats in my 2500 pro master mid length. Part time bed just like yours. I wish I could hire you to build mine. John

      Even if it is just 2 seats behind driver like opposite of yours?

      We've have a 3 passenger seat as 2nd row, and by laying the driver and passenger seat-backs flat down connecting to the passenger seat we get a bed platform, where we put an air mattress on top. Works well and have been cross country with this setup.

    Hi, I enjoy your videos but have a question. We just purchased a 2020 1500 high roof and are going to convert it. I have a nice rubber (factory) floor over plywood. I was told the plywood is glued down with bomb-proof glue but I saw no residue on your bare floor nor did you mention how it was held in place. Was your factory floor glued down? Thanks, Will

    • @thefreezedryingcommunity
      @thefreezedryingcommunity  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a metal floor and cut my ply which was quite the project. I did not glue mine because I want to be able to remove it.

    19K is that include the price of the van???

  • @mikestone9129
    @mikestone9129 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Reflectix is NOT insulation, it's a radiant heat barrier. It is useless if you install right against the metal on your vehicle, it needs an air gap of 1/2 to 1 inch.

      They are from a ford transit. If you look on ebay or craigslist, you can find a donor ford for your project.

    The foil for insulation doesn't work in a van the foil transmits cold better to use proper insulation and raise the floor up on slats
