Thank you so much for this! I couldn't find anything about that darn little rib. Really grateful you can just pull it out! My window is one of those small sliding ones, and it would have just infringed on the rib by about an inch.
we bought a ProMaster for work and wheels are turning in my head for building a family travel vehicle work vehicle but they don't make window vans anymore. I found that window company you talked about and now I found a video of you putting these windows in cool! this is really getting me a little more excited about the possibilities with a ProMaster 🙂
windows in the promaster are easy because it gives you the lines to cut. I am building mine so i can use it for hauling large items and camping. I'm finishing up my kitchen and plumbing right now and i'll have a video on that coming soon.
Where did you find the weather stripping to cover the cut edge of the body metal? I paid a shop to put more windows in my Sprinter van and they used the same type. Would love to find where I can find more of this stuff please.
Where did you find the rubber weather stripping applied to the hole? I can't seem to find the right kind and would love to know what you used if it worked!
I will continue the van build when I get some decent weather. I have my solar setup ready to install. As for mpg, I avg around 18-19 and have had 0 issues. I never thought I would like a van, but it has been great!
thanks for sharing! I have a few follow up questions if ya don't mind: Now that some time has passed, have the windows held up? How is the water seal? Were you able to get the excess glue off that came out from the bottom? Thanks!
the windows have done great! no leaks and I'm very satisfied. I have not really tried to remove the extra. it's really tough stuff but I'm sure there is something that will remove it that is safe for paint.
There is a horizontal support like the one you knocked out near the back of the van in the ceiling. I'm thinking of removing to install a skylight. Do you think it would be ok to remove this rib?
@@thefreezedryingcommunity right, but black and decker trademarked the word sawsall, not Sawsa. Sawsa is a common mispronunciation of sawsall. It comes, I imagine, from people not hearing the almost silent "L" but sawsall of course is intended to mean "saws all" sawsa is incorrect.
Hi i done exactly as u did in regards to cutting out did u find the top n bottom on windiw opposite slider door ,wasent much room for sikaflex wen u put u channel on?
Nice work, I like your modular style and methodical approaches. Very helpful. Thank you. I'll likely be doing this exact thing. I have some questions. have you installed a fan yet? What kinda fan will you do? Also, how many miles came on the van? It looks brand new to me! But you're saying it only cost $18K so it's surely not close to low mileage (unless you got a smokin' deal). I'm stuck deciding on a brand new van with warranty, or a used one. It's just a tough call, especially since this will be purely recreational (we'd hit the year limit on the warranty way before the mileage limit).
Awesome video man! Can you share the brand or where you bought the windows? I am converting a Promaster 3500 Extended Cargo Van and the AMA slider window quoted to me costs $539 which is a lot more expensive than yours. Thanks.
@@thefreezedryingcommunity Wow, that's a big difference. For my Promaster 3500 Extended 2019 model, they are charging $539 for the forward position window (with slider and screen), and $269 for the middle window (solid glass). The total is $2090 including $249 shipping, that is a lot more than you paid.
I’m considering the slider window for my build too but I can’t find any after-install reviews on it! Now that you’ve used it for a few months, what do you think of it? Are you able to use it during a heavy rain?
I literally was about to sign on the dotted line for a middle length 2020 pro master with high top roof for $33k out the door plus tax only. And no down payment. You think I should have?🙂 or wait to buy a used 2020 in 2-3 years?
Great overview, I feel so much more confident in my ability to do this now after watching your video. Thank you!
Great to hear!
Eye safety!
You’re a genius. Buying a nissan nv and can’t find any with windows!!! Hahaha thank you so much for this video!
Sweet windows big price difference for a slider and non slider. JC
Subscribed! I really like the running total. Gives a great reference. Looking forward to the storage cabinets and solar panels!
Excited to check out the solar setup!
Thanks never seen a window put in.

Glad to help! Good luck on the install

Lol murph! Thanks for sharing your helpful tutorial!
Sure. Glad it was helpful

Way to go. So excited to follow you on this ad-van-tue.
I wonder if you have to put primer on the metal edge before installing the rubber weather stripping?
Yes. I put primer on in the video
Can you do an update on the van please? Specifically I’d like to find out what the gas mileage has been and mechanical issues if any. Thanks.

Very nice!!! thanks for the video!!-Chris
Can you do an episode on the table you installed?
yes. i am working on a video with the tables and the kitchen. Just need to get my solar in first.
You look like tesste, from Ed bassmaster.
I recommend a pair of safety glasses. Can't drive if you can't see 🙈
Enjoyed your video i have a 2017 promaster1500 and i want to put a window in the sliding door .Any info will help me.

Happy for you. Awesome job!
What did you use for the metal edge opening on the inside of the door?
There is a horizontal support like the one you knocked out near the back of the van in the ceiling. I'm thinking of removing to install a skylight. Do you think it would be ok to remove this rib?
Its most likely there for a reason
Loving your build video 😍 one day I would like to do this.
Safety glasses, it’s the smart move.
You are right
Great video! Thanks for making it! I learned a lot. By the way it's sawsall not sawsa
the original was a sawzall I believe made by black and decker. it was then coined as the generic term for reciprocating saw.
@@thefreezedryingcommunity right, but black and decker trademarked the word sawsall, not Sawsa. Sawsa is a common mispronunciation of sawsall. It comes, I imagine, from people not hearing the almost silent "L" but sawsall of course is intended to mean "saws all" sawsa is incorrect.
did you apply some paint or metal protection over the metal cut to prevent rust?
yes. i put some paint in a small container and dabbed on with a qtip.
Were did you order your windows from

I'm looking to add a window or two to my Promaster... How has the adhesive held up? It has been 2.5ish years, any issues?
All good! I have used it for my solar box as well. (Where the wires come throughninto the cab).
Original windows? Costs please

I have not done a fan and will not do one on the roof. The driver side has a slider that I will use for ventilation. My van had about 35k on it.
Hearing protection ..Check
Eye protection.....Ooops !
You are right! You only have one set of eyes
What primer did you use before the p2g
118" and low roof, is it worth the work of a build out being it's short and low?
Yes!

Van windows direct

Curious what the dimensions of the window opening are?

The only thing that i don't like about it is the lack of a screen. I am going to make something that i can stick on for those buggy places
How big is the inside opening for the window?
My kitchen window with the slider is around 41 x 25. I can't give an exact measurement now that the window is installed.

I love mine.
Retired at 40- Live.Life.Simple.
So I should buy at least 3 years used correct? I’m thinking I’ll buy a 2020 in 2024.
Where oh were are your protective eyewear? Metal...tiny metal slivers are not good. Even a mask could keep your lungs safe. You never know.
You look like Johnny Knoxville when you shaved.
😂 I have been called a jackass plenty, but never johnny knowville
