"Get it running, drive it. the time is now."
what a great bloke, and a great message to all those people with a project car that they have given up on sitting on the side of your driveway.

In the case of a Porsche owner, you might as well send it to the crusher or dump it in a lake......You'll be much better off in the long run.

This is one of the most refreshing Porsche-lover's attitudes I've seen since I, myself, at the age of 18 years old, was cruising on or tearing up those beautiful back-roads all around the Canadian country side back in 1972, with my 1959 Porsche 356. A double thumbs up to this wise young man. ;--} >

I love everything about this. I live in an area full of Rubicons and TRD Pro’s whose tires have never bent a blade of grass and this man is driving along the ragged edge of a mountain and on to the top in an almost 70 year old Porsche so small I could reach out the window and strike a match on the pavement. And I always notice when I’m at car shows there are people who brag about how few miles their cars have (which is a damn shame) whereas the old Porsche folks are like idk the odometer broke maybe a decade ago around 70K and they’re currently on a 10 state road trip

This is what the old car hobby is and always should be about. Its about bringing something back from the grave, giving it a new life, and then enjoying that new life together. Its WAAAAY to common to have shows always be about the money, flipping, and investments. I HATE that aspect of about 95% of car tv shows. I am not really a fan of Porsche cars, BUT what I am a fan of is this guy's attitude! How much money is your classic worth?? WHO CARES!!

“Just get it running. Drive it. The time is now!” I really like that and the car. I have a ratty old 71 Dodge Polara and I was enjoying just driving it but then an electrical gremlin got into the brake lights and they didn't work %100 of the time. My brother does the mechanical work to keep it going for me but after many attempts and new parts he gave up on it. I took over and after much troubleshooting somehow got the old parts working after the new parts proved defective. I got it to pass inspection and was driving it again but then the exact same problem reoccurred. I was so disappointed and frustrated that I've just let it sit for a couple of months but this has inspired me to go at it again.

I love this guys attitude. Everything he said was awesome. "It's worth an endless amount of money to me or it's worth nothing at all, if I sold it I would just use the money to get another one so why sell it" It's a lot easier to restore something than it is to put 30 or 40 years of real patina on something. Great video thanks for posting as usual.

One of my favourite Petrolicious videos so far. That car looks better like that than those that are done up within an inch of their lives. The fact that it can then be used the way he wants just makes it make so much sense! Perfection.

In 1974, I was 17 and in High School, I bought an early 1957 356-A, (it had factory fog lights and “beehive tail and front signal lights, like yours). The previous owner put a Super 90 motor, (103 hp) and Speedster transmission (close ratio 3 & 4 gears-BBAB-perfect for the street). Only took it on the paved roads and highways. It handled like a dream, but you didn’t have to go fast to feel it. Probably because of the flat (now they call if Boxer configuration) 4 cylinders. Never “drifted” it but I did go 100 mph, (w 4 girls in it) once. Proud to say I never got a ticket while driving it.

Petrolicious manages to put through my screen the bond and enjoyment that normal people have with their cars every Tuesday. This channel is what the hobby is all about, is about the feeling you get when you are behind the wheel A car, it doesn't matter which kind it is, how much it costs or the state that it is in. All that matters is the way that it makes you feel. I simply have to congratulate you guys for the amazing entertainment and education given about this passion of ours.

People like this guy are gonna start a trend of grungy cars. Like people who look for really old vintage in its original state, untouched cars like these will be desirable.

    • @madfiat8932
      @madfiat8932 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

+Axel Nussbaumer It's been a trend for a while. It's not uncommon to gently wash the rust/flaking paint and then clearcoat satin over it just to protect the patina. You can always tell when they do that though. Great to see a true, honest, evolving patina. So many spend tons of money to preserve the "zero f*cks* look that they lose authenticity.

My first car was too, a 1964 VW Notchback. When I first saw it I knew I had to have it and negotiated with $950 in pocket. Bought the car and drove it home with a pair of vice-grips as my temporary steering wheel. I don’t have that car anymore, but man! Does it sure bring back the memories. I’m with you on the 356. Enjoy it and drive it to the most strangest and remote places around. You can tell the car loves to be driven around, because it’s got soul! 👍

I really want to see more stories like this. More actual STORIES about the cars and less Q&A with the owners. Not to say i don't love the content you guys at Petrolicious always put up, I just love cars like this with proper character. Cars that would look right at home in a movie like Mad Max or Dukes of Hazard. When the owners get a legend of a car and thrash it in the dirt, or when they get an underdog and out-do the legends. Its fun when a car or an owner does something unsuspecting, and thats the best thing about some of the videos on this channel. I just wish more of them were like this! So good!

This car has a big smile on its face, it cheers you up immediately. That's what I miss in modern car design. Imagine a street full of cars that look so friendly. I think a lot of today's road-rage and aggression stems from being surrounded by aggressive looking machines.
By the way, I own a motorcycle that also shows off its scars and get so much feedback even from people who don't look like they're into motorcycles otherwise.

This Hummel dude seems like a cool guy and eccentric in a good way, and I like his philosophy regarding his old car hobby. Kinda the same thoughts I started having a couple of years ago. Now I've also found my place in the car guy world, and I'm more relaxed about building cars and enjoying them, now that I've realised that I don't have to compete with anyone in terms of how cool my old car looks like to other people.

As a young classic car enthusiast with generic "low" economical posibilities as most young people starting in this wonderful world of cars, I started this same way... And have daily driven for years cars just taken out from being stored for decades, done brakes and minimal things and driven them eveywhere... I bought a '69 Dodge Dart (spanish version of a '66 american Dart). It had been sitting for maybe 30 years, it wasn't shiny at all, its interiors, everything looked so used, did very few to it and have driven it everywhere, just like in the video I love taking it off road, drive it sideways on dirt, etc... It has a 225 slant 6 engine, 2 barrel carb, 4 speed manual, front and rear sway bars, limited slip rear diff, and front ventilated disc brakes, all original, it is the spanish "GT" version... A joy to drive as is... Once a poitician's or army car, now mine.

This is probably what Ferdinand Porsche intended for his company. Brute rugged and durable sports automobiles. Seeing he made the W30 prototypes ride over 2.800,000 kilometers this just makes me remind of how versatile an aircooler rear mount rearwheel drive is

+Toni Sukles I wouldn't advise it cos it'll cost you loads just to get it road worthy. And look on ebay and see the rocketting prices of examples needing work.

      He meant rusty old Porsche.
Not one left in a barn for so long that it looks like the little mermaid tried to drive it under water then left it there.

This is what being a car enthusiast should be all about. And not putting your car in a garage just to take it out for a show or a concours once or twice a year. Great guy!

I can understand what he means when he says it's liberating to drive a classic car without caring about whether you've got the perfect paint job or even hub caps.

Get it running, drive it, the time is now... what a great video. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, for your words of encouragement and wisdom. It is now time to get my 1983 VW Vanagon back on the road with its multi color primer and rust. Adventure time again, just to go to the store or the gravel pit.
