My father passed away last month and he had been working on restoring his 1967 912, fully stripped and painted Aga blue, engines&trans fully built and still going through every part restoring what he could. I’m 19 and I worked with him taking apart a sprite he’d had most of his life but now I’ll be taking over the 912 restoration. This brought me to tears.

these 912s are my dream cars. not the 911s, not ferraris, or lamborghinis, not even a bugatti. these represent lots of thought in engineering, along with keeping more luxury vehicles at least in the sight of the middle class. truly beautiful cars, perfect lines.

As grown up men we are all sons of fathers and there is that special connection. I remember when I bought my first Porsche 20 years ago how proud my father was back then. Life treated me well and I was able to buy additional Porsches since then. Unfortunately, I am not able to share the joy and excitement of a new Porsche with my father anymore since he passed away, which I miss tremendously.
However, your story runs so much deeper and expresses wonderfully the love for your father as well for the Porsche. Thanks so much for sharing this with the world!

My Guards Red '68 912 Targa with Fuchs wheels was one of the finest cars I've ever owned. It looked great, ran like a top and didn't require anything but routine maintenance and the TLC any Porsche deserves. I eventually sold it to move up to a newer '73 Viper Green 911E Targa, which was also a fantastic car. I drove the 911E for years as my daily driver and I never tired of it, or the looks and "thumbs up" it always got out on the road. I regularly look at the pictures on my office walls of both cars sitting side by side, and dearly wish I had them back again. Each had its own character, its pros and cons, strengths and weaknesses (very few!) but, at the end of the day, they were both Porsches with that undeniable Porsche pedigree that sets them apart from any other car in the world. There truly is no substitute!

Wish I had produced a video like this when I had my 912. It was a 69 tangerine. Last year 0f the 912. Most evolved of the engine and the chassis. Won my local PCA region auto cross with it. 310 point car at Monterey. And still beat most of the 911s in the autocross... Will forever miss that car...

My ‘68 912 was the favorite. My father, who had a Karmann Ghia, never understood Porsches until he had to drive my 1960 Drauz Super Roadster from Lexington, KY to Dahlonega, GA. He loved driving it. It was kind of a thrill to see him cruising onto the college campus.

Sure miss my '69... absolute magic happened when both the tachometer and speedometer needles were perfectly vertical at 4000 RPM in 5th gear. Exactly 75 MPH. At that moment, everything clicked and you you could feel that all was good with the cam and transaxle and happiest to run all day like that. I also missed how well it stayed tuned compared to the 911's of that time. Maybe someday I'll find another....ivory white. Thanks for the video.

agreed. my dad recently passed away and he had a 53 year love affair with his 1967 912 Porsche. he ordered it from the Stuttgart factory and picked it up back on June 16, 1967. the car turns 54 next week! all original still... refurbished engine in 2019. oh how he loved his grey "old fox' and what adventures he had with it (the car has over 200K miles). I'd love to put a video together about his story. one day!
