I have been using them for a few months now. The linkbuds are absolutely perfect for listening in a quiet environment. They are the most comportable, the sound quality is fantastic, you can wear then all day if you wish in comfort. On the other hand they are no good in a noisy environment. I will go to the grocery store and call my mom to get her groceries and I have trouble hearing her due to the ambient background noise. Watched the review and ordered. At £149, as usual we pay a premium in the UK, but I have a pair of Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch earbuds which sound fantastic, and are currently on offer at half the price of the LinkBuds, but like everything else I've tried they don't stay in place all the time, though they're better than most. I think there are three notable things here that stand out about the Link buds in particular and about SONY's state of mind in general these days. 1) The fact that SONY finally named an audio product. That they finally gave a simple and easy to remember name to an audio product that isn't just a series of letters and numbers. Hallelujah! 2) There is some interesting Innovation here. And I think we have just seen the future of wireless earbuds. And by that I'm referring both to the small size of the Link buds themselves, but especially the ability to control functions by touching your face/skin near your ears. I would bet that's where we are going to see all earbuds head. It just makes sense. 3) Is SONY making an effort to include unique services/software with the Link buds. From the collaboration with Microsoft to provide uses for blind people to the partnership with Niantic (the studio that made Pokemon go) to use the Link buds with AR type games on mobile phones. This shows me that SONY now fully understands how important software/unique services/an ecosystem etc are to electronics. It's not just good enough to make the hardware well. It's an interesting change we are now seeing in SONY imho.
Great video and appreciate the review! I do have one suggestion for future videos - adding bookmarks within the video. It makes it a lot easier to find specific parts I want to listen to. Otherwise keep up the great work!!
I've always been a bigger fan of open back headphone design. I don't think any tech out there can compare to just have the soundstage of open back headphon, but it's hard to beat the form factor of earbuds. If only they had a wired version lol.
Yeah, but man these things weigh just FOUR grams. The sound is actually far better than I expected and that's a huge amount of tech and battery to stuff into a tiny device weighing so little. If you consider them for what they are, they're amazing. The sound isn't meant to compete with the likes of the XM4's.
The Soundpeats Air3 should not be ignored in the open earbud segment. In fact, now that they have app support and give you the ability to noticeably bump up the bass, they're easily louder and more rich-sounding than the AirPods 3, at just a fraction of the price.
I agree they are amazing for listening to podcasts. I’m loving them so far. I actually done a review on them and posted the video today if you would like to check em out.
Bone conduction seems to be the go to audio device for safety conscious cyclists, but I would love to give this setup from Sony a go. How firmly do they stay in place with sweat, and a bumpy road? What speed does the wind blow out the sound? How long before a third party makes a similar design that is way cheaper?
I agree ! And it works super well. I got my ones last week and I love them. I actually done a review on them and posted the video today if you would like to check em out.
Great review. I saw others that kept trying to compare them to noise canceling buds. Well that makes no sense. Glad your comparison was about other features and the ups and downs of open back. Not the fact that it doesn’t block sound haha some people need to know what they reviewing before they review. I am really interested in these now. Thanks again.
Got mine from Amazon today. This is a pretty good compromise between in-ear buds and pods, they're more secure than pods (unless you have aftermarket wings) so less likely to fall off and they're more comfortable to wear than in-ear for casual listening or when you needs to be aware of your surrounding as the open design sounds natural compare to most environmental sound pass-through (which sometimes hiss or other sound artifacts). Sound quality is pretty decent for casual listening and watching streaming media (quality in-ear buds will definitely sounds better for HD music). Noise cancelling only works with mic so not recommended for noisy area.
I have been wanting something like these for so long. I only use open back headphones because I can't stand feeling isolated. Would love to give these a try if I ever can afford it
Thanks for the great review! These seem to be a better option than bone conduction options. I can’t wear headphones or buds because I am concerned about safety. I am jealous of people who wear them in public but now I think this option is going be a game changer. ! Getting this pair for my wife for Mother’s Day she has the exact same concern as I do . Plus she’s a safety manager for her company, this should be a true test. Thanks again for your informative review straight forward to the point no fluff great job
So basically better buds live but 10$ more expensive. I get why they chose the ring design, it makes them more breathable allowing air to pass through so your ears don't get humid or uncomfortable. But I've been missing the extra bass in their recent earphones, they're more audiophile-focused like most other sound brands with focus on mids and the highs and don't get as bassy as some of their previous earphones that I really like.
They're still making those Xtra Bass series dude, both earphones and headphones. If that still ain't satisfy your crazy bass craving, I guess u should train your ears with better quality sound lol ...
They have different product lines to cater to different needs. This is clearly for indoor usage, most probably best used in an office setting. It's not that hard to look up what you need instead of complaining about bass when clearly it's an open back design..
@@ehmzed you can do that without having a hole in the middle like galaxy beans or freebuds or moondrops, they fit very light and barely keep any sound away, the real advantage of having the hole is better ear health and no pressure zone build-up.
I don't know how everyone has managed without these for so long with covid. how do you talk on zoom calls when you can't hear yourself talk properly. this will save my life w that
Think Sony failed with not making it wireless charging case. With everything going wireless charging. They go backwards with this. This is what made me love the buds live where they sit over your canal and no tip. Now Sony came out with their version and can’t wait to try them. Already preordered them. Would love to see a closed back version and wonder how sound is affected if you put a piece of tape over the hole? Something for me to try when I get them.
its the first iteration, where they need to test the water with their fans using this. If the approval rating is high, the second iterations will probably have a few improvements including wireless charging.
I have the Galaxy Buds Live, they fall out often when working out with weights. Got these cause I wanted to avoid Beats or AirPods. I'm intrigued by these, and if they come down in price, may consider a pair.
I have Samsung Buds Live. When I first got them they made my ears swore, and I couldn't wear them for very long. After a year and a half, I wear them all the time and I even forget they're there haha! And they feel very comfortable. Regardless of buds, your ears have to get used to them to feel comfortable. Love them with all my heart ❤️
Yes, too many people dimiss products too readily without giving them a chance. Most negative reviews come from people who've never even used them, they just don't like the brand or the idea of the product.
I have pretty bad TMJ so most overhead headphones and inear are a no no, so I'm hoping that these work for me. I just want to listen to music again in the intimate way I used to be able to. Edit: it's not working well. The buds feel like a ball of sandpaper and it's just not quite there. Really cool concept though, when my ear wasn't blocking parts of the speaker it felt like I was just being surrounded by sound instead of being right in my head. Super cool, just needs more refinement and comfort focus. Maybe I need to be a tester because I just can't find any that's worth while.
@7:47, it would have been nice to show the real sound of how the traffic sounds like versus the sound from ear buds. very nice still but would have love to hear how the "traffic" in real life was.
link buds is not used for music alone, the power of this new product is on productivity and connectivity that any of other competitors can't reach today. - with that open ring system, you wouldn't need to remove your earphone just to talk with someone else clearly, not unlike other brands out there that you'll need to remove your earphones just to talk with them with ease, - if you want music don't go on this one.. but if you want a productivity, connectivity and a touch of music then go with this one, so it is just more on preference of the user ) - still Sony has done so much to the world by innovating products that led to some companies copying it and enhance the foundation of the innovator OG of all time Sony. ( not a sony fan boy here, I like more of samsung, but I do respect the true Innovator)
No comment on the Sound Stage? I think a lot of reviewers are missing the point on this thing. Wish they dwell more on how they sound and less on the features.
There isn't a single review out from even sound enthusiasts out right now. I jumped on the linkbuds and pre ordered them, but not because of this guy that can't even articulate the sound profile.
Great video 👌 I usually wait until the verdict is out on a product, make sure all the kinks are worked out before I pull the plug. I'm getting the buds live to try now. These look pretty cool for ear buds. Leave it to Sony to come out with something something fresh. I hope these do really well but they won't be for everyone just like buds live wasn't. I'll be curious to what other TH-camrs will say will they trash it or love it. Us nerd's love the content on the products that excite us. This is fresh new look that's going to garnish some attention.
I wish once in a while someone with small ears will review earbuds. I have small ears and canals. I have not found an in earbud that doesn’t immediately fall out. I usually wear headphones but they smash the arms of my glasses. These look interesting but would love another opinion. Why is everything made for big men?
great review, one of things i rarely here about is how these would fare for a wheelchair user, as one, the last thing I need is to hassle with ear buds that just don't want to stay in, t I don't have the convenience of stopping just to adjust my earbuds, for the average person, it's generally not an issue as you can adjust and walk at the same time, I prefer the in ear style
In theory, these should just be able to stay in your ears securely. If someone bumped into your ear the bud might come out. But should stay in securely. They did for me anyway.
I've lost count of how many headphones I've bought over the years, wired and wireless. I got these today, worn them for three hours and never once did they come loose or feel as though they were going to fall out. Fit was perfect once i'd chosen the correct size "wing" tip (you get 5 different sizes in the box, I found I could use either the 3rd or 4th largest and both were equally secure). These are the only ones I've had EVER that have never come loose.

After watching this video, i want to rate these link buds!!!
⭐⭐
So excited to hear these have great microphones
I read the title as - I got shocked. good job CNET.
A great, comprehensive review. Thank you.
The design is very appealing to me.
The main reason for the open design is that it lets external sounds in 😅
They have different product lines to cater to different needs. This is clearly for indoor usage, most probably best used in an office setting. It's not that hard to look up what you need instead of complaining about bass when clearly it's an open back design..
I think you misunderstood the reason for the ring design.
@@ehmzed you can do that without having a hole in the middle like galaxy beans or freebuds or moondrops, they fit very light and barely keep any sound away, the real advantage of having the hole is better ear health and no pressure zone build-up.
Time to save money, I love this earbuds.
I don't know how everyone has managed without these for so long with covid. how do you talk on zoom calls when you can't hear yourself talk properly. this will save my life w that
Don't think I've seen a more enthusiastic use of the phonetic footlong *double you ex one thousand em mark four" 😁
Great video. Informative and good flow hope to see you in more video with CNET!
Will be getting this and throwing my AirPods 3 mainly coz new AirPods are painful to wear even after sanding off it is still not for my ears
I have the Galaxy Buds Live, they fall out often when working out with weights. Got these cause I wanted to avoid Beats or AirPods. I'm intrigued by these, and if they come down in price, may consider a pair.
Nice video. Thanks. I'll get me a pair. Love the open construction. Need to keep intouch with kids and pets at all times :)
XL is about right size for you Mr Yoda!
I had a hard time with the rings which size is which
Thank you for this video that ring shocked me like
That is such a unique design! I would use this. I hate earbuds with the tip...
I like them comfortable and sound good. I cracked my neck whole wearing them two cracks turned of my earbuds lol . Two taps turn them on or off.
@7:47, it would have been nice to show the real sound of how the traffic sounds like versus the sound from ear buds. very nice still but would have love to hear how the "traffic" in real life was.
Sad at the lack of multipoint!
Sony rarely disappoints!
Wow... great review 👍🏿👍🏿
link buds is not used for music alone, the power of this new product is on productivity and connectivity that any of other competitors can't reach today.
I jumped on the linkbuds and pre ordered them, but not because of this guy that can't even articulate the sound profile.
the comparison to the galaxy beans just made me laugh. so it's not the same shape or anything = they both look goofy 😅
Thank you for this great info!
I like this white buds!
Seem good for being at work, gotta hear your boss, but have jammies in the background. That's what imma use them for at least
Misheard funky model number and thought cnet was getting spicy.
I hope third party ear loops come out soon. I really like these but my ears don't. The loops have to be more sturdier I guess.
I wish once in a while someone with small ears will review earbuds. I have small ears and canals. I have not found an in earbud that doesn’t immediately fall out. I usually wear headphones but they smash the arms of my glasses. These look interesting but would love another opinion.
Why is everything made for big men?
Same. I’m about to buy these. Dude at Best Buy said they don’t fall out. Our last resort is bone conduction ones.
great review, one of things i rarely here about is how these would fare for a wheelchair user, as one, the last thing I need is to hassle with ear buds that just don't want to stay in, t
I don't have the convenience of stopping just to adjust my earbuds, for the average person, it's generally not an issue as you can adjust and walk at the same time, I prefer the in ear style
Shocking AND suprising? Wow
Sony always good on:
brand naming
Making trend
Outstanding innovation
Inspiring people
Buds live fit perfectly in my ear no issue but airpods in general are too narrow to fit my ear canal so gets pushed out over time
Nice review. Great design and looks very promising.
Sidenote: the amount of ads in this vid killed it.
Nice review. I think I'll stick with picking up the XM4's since they have better battery life and sound quality.
Great Review of a good product.
Excellent review
🔥 I'm a grab some today
Your looking is very smart 👍 very nice video sir 👍
They should've made a beige color option for people who want a more subtle option.
Really helpful review. Thank youu
I agree ! I bought my ones last week and I love them. I actually done a review on them and posted the video today if you would like to check em out.
I have the Buds Live and they are amazingly comfortable for me. I do find that my Buds Live do control outside noise a bit.
