Traditional in ear buds bother my ears a lot. These and the galaxy buds live are the best alternatives. The buds sound better but these are more comfortable.

When I first saw the design leaks I was so happy that someone would finally build upon Samsung's Beans idea! I only had the LinkBuds for 48h now (they released in Japan, Land of Sony, only on the 25th), but I managed the sleep thing and had a very good, thud-less run with them (other in-ears amplify the sound of your foot strikes, aka 'the THUD') .. but I do get some BT connection drops as reported in other reviews ...

I use the Galaxy Beans as my daily drivers and ABSOLUTELY LOVE them!!!! They've been the best earphones I've ever had, from Jabra, JBL, Aeorpex Bone Conduction, Duolink Go, Sony neckbank headphones etc over the years.
The main reason is they allow environment sounds without artificial boost via microphones and have good audio quality with decent low end for their design.
People might say they want complete isolation but then use pass through to hear the outside world! In practical life, you need to hear the outside world while driving, biking, running or working in office. The Beans do that just right!
What are your specific views about the Sony Linkbuds exclusively compared to the Beans in terms of audio quality, low end (bass performance) and outside noise levels?

I live the idea of open-ear buds. I work in mental health, so its important that I'm aware in my work environment. Things can go from 0-60 really fast, and I need to hear everything that's going on in order to keep myself and my clients safe.

I've had a pair for about a week now. Recently upgraded my phone from the buggy Pixel 6 to Sony Xperia 5iii and though it would be good to pair them with Sony earbuds.
On the plus side I really like the open design, lack of that 'locked inside the head' sensation and the they are not overly critical of positioning inside the ear.
However, the sound pretty average. Fine for spoken word, radio, podcasts etc which does make up about 70% of my listening, however they are dynamically flat with an EQ contour to fool the casual listener into thinking they have bass. The lower midrange and upper bass is boosted and thickened to compensate for the severe lack of low bass. Google Pixel buds sound far better IME.
I've had connection issues with mine since yesterday when a firmware update was applied. Turning my head with the phone in my pocket causes momentary stuttering and dropout which is disappointing and needs fixing. Nice idea but 6/10 from me.

I have had a pair for a couple of weeks now and like them, they are very comfy. I can't wear in ears anymore as they always really annoy my left ear after about 10-20 minutes, I have tried many pairs and tips over the last few years all with the same result and I don't want to wear over or on ears in public.
True the bass is lacking, but I got used to them and don't even think about when listening to music now, I wouldn't have bought them if I could still wear regular in ears, but if you do have comfort issues them these Sony's are well worth a look.

How in 2022 is possible to not listen independently from such a huge brand like Sony. Next one is the battery. Now is 100 now is 82 now is 24 now is zero..... Is just an example. Great review as usual! Nice to see innovations in design! But.... I totally disagree that the Galaxy Beans were a huge flop... really? Many, many people love them, including myself. The amount of bass and fuller sound they were able to deliver from an open design is amazing. I don't think sales were bad either, far from it. Certainly the Beans received a few mixed reviews, not everybody liked them... But as far as I am concerned, the Linkbuds are having at least as many mixed impressions as the Beans around TH-cam, specially in regards to sound quality. In terms of comfort and design the Linkbuds have been mostly praised so far, but the Galaxy Buds Live certainly sound a lot better.

    • @davi.poiani
      @davi.poiani 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@petebratschi You've got a point, my love for them doesn't make much of a difference, it is just me for God's sake! But I think you missed the broader point.
I understand a huge flop in tech products as something of a disaster, either in terms of bad sales, bad performance or significant flaws. Or even all of them together. Let us name a few over the past years: Google Glass, Windows Phone, Galaxy Note 7, Galaxy Fold, iPhone 6 (bendgate), the list goes on. Now, are you really sure the Buds Live fall in this category? That is not the case... at all.
Before (and after) I buy anything, I watch many reviews, read many articles and comments from owners etc. And my read of the situation is that the Beans received much more initial praise (and less bad criticism) than the Linkbuds. And let us be fair here: not being a tremendous and unanimous success does not necessarily mean being a huge flop, right? There must be a middle term in between.
Mike is a great reviewer, but on this matter it is just his personal opinion, not a fact or at least a widely accepted view. Some others said the Linkbuds suck, but it doesn't make it a fact yet, too soon for that.
I don't have access to the sales figures by Samsung but the whole picture hasn't shown a flop... far from it. I appreciate if you point me to a trusted source that made you so sure of that. Thanks for your time!

The fundamental problem with these is an earbud with ambient mode essentially pumps sounds in and amplifies them to some degree which help your brain differentiate the sounds from outside and the buds. In this case its compensating for the sounds coming directly from the buds and if done correctly, outside noises can sound louder and natural. With these, there's no compensation - its your earbud sounds vs outside noise, so it requires some extra interpretation on the users part, which in some usage scenarios become actually less effective than a product with very good ambient amplification.

    Great review, as usual. :)
These are interesting, but I think they'd fall short for how I'd want to use earbuds.
I use a wheelchair, and roll around outside a lot, crossing busy roads sometimes, so hearing my surroundings at least somewhat is optimal. But I think that earbuds *that* open would cause too much sound to get to my ears, nullifying the point of wearing earbuds in the first place. I want to be able to hear the outside world enough to respond to cars, but I don't want it drowning out my music entirely.
It seems like these would be best in an office environment where you need to be able to talk to people at a moment's notice. For my purposes, having a transparency mode on ANC earbuds is better.

I don't know anybody that would purchase these type earbuds for stellar audio performance that would include a stellar bass experience that is standard with a good IEM. You should have spent a lot of the time showing all the advantages and features that are included. This just sounded like a semi-pleasant rant and rave session. I really didn't learn anything from this video. But thanks for not giving us a philosophical lecture on how Sony makes the world a more-twisted screwed up Country
