    Your channel is SUPER helpful! My baby was born and was in the NICU for 75 days and I was an overproducer. Now that she’s been home, I get 4-6oz per pump. I thought something was wrong with me, but you explaining that my breast have now regulated to my babies needs makes sense. Thank you ❤

    This is the absolute most helpful video I’ve seen. So much information in this short video. My supply was immaculate in the first few weeks, then it dropped significantly to the point where I had to supplement with formula because I was pumping less than an ounce and he was super fussy at the breast. As of late I’ve been doing so much research & saw everyone recommending lactation treats & supplements. I’ve tried legendairy liquid gold, fenugreek, lactation cookies, emergency brownies, NOTHING worked. I saw no change in my supply. I was pumping 3oz or less each session. I stopped breastfeeding & was exclusively pumping while taking these products. Thank yu so much for this video. So many things I thought were right, is actually the opposite. Im going to stop taking fenugreek & start nursing my son again.
    Thank yu! ❤

      He will be four months on the 19th ❤ he’s growing so fast & so is his appetite. I’m grateful for this information because I was super ready to quit. But I realized that my son would vomit excessively while I was supplementing with formula & breast milk. It’s been 8 days of him being strictly on breastmilk but I haven’t seen any changes. I’ve been pumping constantly but only breastfeeding at night.

      Being sick can sometimes reduce milk supply. For some moms, the body can have a hard time having a letdown. Putting baby to the breast more often will bring it back up but it takes 3 to 5 days to see an increase.
      Is baby still having 6 or more wet diapers every 24 hours?

      I was going from being able to get 4oz every day for the first month to 3 times a week then to once a week and now none and I feel like he fusses and cries because he can’t drink as much as he used to when I was full all the time! It’s been 4 days currently that I only produce barely enough for him to take a little nap and cry again after a while.. I’m currently a human pacifier for him but it makes me sad how empty my breast feel and how I don’t hear him swallow much!

    • @marycahillclc
      @marycahillclc  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@susieqhernandez8373 You probably understand this from watching the video but…
      That all sounds very normal. If you are pumping at random times or between feedings, you can expect to get a larger amount like 4 ounces in the first 3 or 4 weeks. Then for most moms, that random pumping output will decrease to just drops or nothing by around 8 weeks.
      Our bodies are designed to make exactly what baby needs. In the first weeks we have hormones released telling your body to start making milk. This is why we can pump more in those first few weeks. After that, we make just what baby takes out. I know that feels like it’s just barely enough, but we have to think about it differently. It’s not “barely enough”. It’s “exactly enough”. It’s the perfect amount!❤️
      It’s very normal and actually a good thing for your breast to fill flat and empty just like before you were even pregnant. Milk is not stored in your breasts, it’s produced while you nurse or pump. If baby is hungrier on some days, they can still get more milk. It will come out slower, but it will be higher in fat content. When baby is fussy or wanting to eat more often, that extra fat is exactly what they need.
      Babies will cluster. Sometimes you won’t really notice it but other times it’s extreme. It will change from time to time. Babies will cluster feed for a few days or a week (or more) and then not so much for a few days or a week. When baby is cluster feeding, you’ll know that’s what it is because baby is still having plenty of wet diapers, (if you are exclusively breastfeeding) and will seem satisfied in the first part of the day. By afternoon through evening, that’s when they will seem like they aren’t getting enough. Baby will cry and be super upset during this part of the day, it can definitely look like hunger, but it’s actually that baby is overly tired, overly stimulated or hurting. Baby’s gums will hurt from time to time, even though you won’t see teeth for many weeks, and it’s uncomfortable to grow so quickly.
      Your letdown will be less forceful after a few weeks. That can look like baby is not getting enough because they’re not drinking so quickly.
      With all of that to say, we do want to be sure that baby is always getting enough and something else isn’t going on. So I have a few more questions.
      How old is baby?
      How is baby’s weight gain?
      Are you exclusively breastfeeding?
      How many wet diapers does baby have every 24 hours?

      @@marycahillclc my baby is almost three months, from my babies 1 month appt he was gaining great weight, I’m exclusively breastfeeding but I pump when I feel full and after my son eats and I still have a lot. But this past week I’ve been very low on my supply of milk only enough to feed him but not for my freezer stash. Some days I feel very empty and other days he’s practically choking from how much I have. Wet diapers are I want to say as often as I feed him so if I feed him every two hours I’m changing a wet diaper before I feed him. Some times it a lot and sometimes it a little wet. He sleeps threw the night with only 1 feeding from 11pm to 2am or 3am then wakes up at 7am to feed. I feel like I wake up engorged then all day he’s feeding and I don’t have “enough” and my breast feel empty and I don’t hear him swallow much.

    I'm late coming to this video, but i hope you will see this and respond. This was super helpful information. I have an almost 6 week old baby girl and have had great supply until I got mastitis and took the 10 day antibiotic regimine. I continued to breastfeed throughout but baby would still be hungry after being at the breasts back and forth for an hour or more. We began supplementing with formula at night and attempting to pump before bed in hopes of building supply to feed at night and now i have a cranky hungry baby who isnt getting enough from me and is gassy and uncomfortable with formula. How can i get my production back up enough to keep her happy during the day in addition to producing enough extra to bottle feed at night without relying on formula?

    • @marycahillclc
      @marycahillclc  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi mommy! ❤️
      I’ve not seen antibiotics cause a dip in supply but occasionally a severe illness can affect supply.
      At around 6 to 8 weeks, our supply does go down to just what baby takes out.
      Is baby seeming unsatisfied all day or just at times? When you pump, how much are you getting at a pumping and how many ounces do you pump every 24 hours.

      @@MrDavitrader18 The food that we eat, won’t usually increase or decrease supply. Things like peppermint and oregano can reduce supply for some moms.
      You should start to notice that your breasts don’t feel full anymore. This is normal. Your breasts should be feeling flat and empty but still making plenty of milk. As long as baby always has 6 or more wet diapers every 24 hours, you know they’re getting enough.
      Painful and burning sensation on your nipples can be thrush. If you have thrush, you will have pain between feedings too. Baby would also have thrush if you do. Baby would have a thick white coating on their tongue.
      Another possibility is if you’re pregnant, you could be tender on your nipples. Or if baby’s position isn’t good, you will start to hurt. If baby is having teething pain, they will slip off of the nipple.
      Do any of those sound like a possibility?

      Getting baby in a tighter position can help baby to not bite down on the nipple. If there is plenty of breast in baby’s mouth, their jaw cannot close. If baby slips down to the nipple, they can easily bite and cause damage.

    • @marycahillclc
      @marycahillclc  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven’t had moms tell me that Marshmallow root has hurt supply. Fenugreek is occasionally associated with low supply but I really believe that a lot of that is because moms take herbs and wait for incense but what is needed for more milk is baby on the breast more or pumping more with lots of breast massage.
      Tell me what’s happening for you. Are you exclusively feeding from the breast? What signs are showing you that your supply is low? What do you think could be affecting supply?

    • @the_sojournersbus
      @the_sojournersbus 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I exclusively nurse. My baby is growing, but slowly. Babe doesn’t always act satiated after he pulls himself off. I think part of it could be due to his tongue tie, but in general he has always has a solid latch. When I pump even before nursing, I get very little. With my other three babies my milk always has dwindled too. I’ve never been able to maintain a milk supply for longer than 9 months. I’m wondering if stress is my issue?

    • @marycahillclc
      @marycahillclc  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@the_sojournersbus that is very normal to not be able to get much extra milk before or after a feeding at this age. At this point your milk supply is regulated down just to what baby needs. At this point your body responds better to having baby nurse on the breast and baby is usually more efficient at removing the milk. It’s common for Mom to feel like their supply has dried up when it really hasn’t.
      When it is a little low, you can try to latch baby more often and for longer. Babies at this age are very active and might not want to sit still for a long nursing session, but you could hold baby during nap time and let him stay latched. I know it will seem like baby is not taking in much while they’re sleeping, but they are taking it a little bit and the stimulation of having babies mouth on the breast is very helpful for supply.
      You will know that baby getting enough to eat if you always see six or more wet diapers every 24 hours.
      Does baby seem more satisfied and not so fussy on the morning feeds? It’s normal for them to be fussier in the afternoon or evening. This is usually , because they are tired or overstimulated. It hurts to grow so quickly and time is usually the worst.
      It’s also normal to not feel like your breasts are full anymore but milk is made while baby is nursing.
      Do you have a baby scale or can you weigh at your doctor’s office. If you could weigh before and after nursing, that would show how much baby is getting. It will be more in the morning. Probably 3 to 5 ounces in the morning but then just 1 or 2 ounces a feeding in the afternoon.

      Since you have an oversupply (forceful letdown goes with it). I want to mention some other problems that you might see, besides baby not wanting to feed at the breast.
      Babies of moms with a forceful letdown/oversupply may have some of these but not all: Baby may be extra gassy, tummy pains, have reflux, regular green or goopy poops. Baby may be high in weight gain but more often will be slow in weight gain. Mom will often struggle with clogged ducts.
      When you have this condition, you will have it with every baby, but every baby will handle it differently. Some barely show any signs and others will have most of them.
      I’m attaching a video playlist if you want to check that out. The first video just helps you to decide if you have it or not. You definitely know you do lol The next video helps you to understand it better and to control it. I hope these are helpful too. 🥰

I'm more at 6 weeks and I had been breast feeding and supplementing with formula and pumping every 3 hours. 3 oz pumping would be a perfect amount. If you had been able to pump that amount, then you can get back there.
      For increasing supply, i would pump a little more often if possible. If baby were exclusively taking breastmilk, she would probably be eating every 2 hours but longer stretches at night are fine.
      Here’s the big key; Adding lots of breast massage and holding baby skin to skin. These will greatly increase supply. You won’t see an increase for 3 to 5 days. Then it will slowly increase from there.
      Next would be to get her to the breast. It’s important to try to latch her at every feeding if possible but if she fusses, stop and try again later. Hold her while bottle feeding or just talking to her, with her face touching your bare breast. She needs to get comfortable with the breast again. I have a video that should help. @@happymultiverse8243 It will be pretty hard to get baby back to the breast after baby is 1 year. You can try to get your supply up while pumping to be an exclusive pumper but at this point that would be a lot of work. If you want to start to pump you’ll need to pump every 2 to 3 hours during the day and you’ll need to pump every day.
      Before the pumping sessions you’ll need to add 5 to 10 minutes of massage before you pump. If you are only seeing drops then only pump for a few minutes after the drops have stopped.
      You must pump every day at the same time. So it’s a big commitment. It will take 3 to 5 days to even start to see an increase in supply, after you have been very consistent with your pumping. An increase with me and they start to see a few more drops . It will slowly increase from there.

Another thing, my breastmilk has excessive lipase so I had to throw my 2 months of milk stash because it smells at tastes metallic. 😢 😭 i can only store my milk in the fridge for up to 3 days. Is there anything I can do to avoid lipase? I feel frustrated for having to throw all my milk stash which I tirelessly pumped for 2 months. 💔😭😭

      We all have one breast that produces less than the other but for some moms it’s more noticeable. The good news is that the good side is making up for the slacker. There’s no need to worry about it. Baby will nurse more or you’ll pump more from the over producer. If baby has a favorite side, they may be causing the imbalance by nursing more or longer on that side but again, that’s totally fine.
      For the high lipase, there’s no need to throw it away unless baby won’t drink it. Most babies don’t mind it. It won’t hurt baby.
      When you have high Lipase, you’ll always have it. You can scald your milk right after pumping to stop the smell/taste from developing but that has to be done right after pumping it.
      Here’s my video on high lipase to explain more. ❤️

    How do I become an oversupplier??? I want to have enough to store for work and I feel like I might just make enough - and even using my haaka is like maybe a little less than an ounce :/

    • @marycahillclc
      @marycahillclc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Having an oversupply is a condition. It can be more difficult to deal with than an under supply. You can’t make yourself have an oversupply condition but you can increase your supply a bit. When a mom has a forceful letdown and oversupply (they go together) baby can have painful gas and really low or high weight gain and other issues. Moms with this condition have more engorgement and tend to get clogged duct and mastitis a lot.
      Having just enough is perfect. That’s how we were meant to be.
      When your supply regulates at around 6 or 8 weeks, it’s normal to not be able to get any or very little, extra milk between feedings. You should be able to pump around 2 ounces (it can be anywhere from 1/2 oz to 4 ounces) total if you are pumping in place of a feeding.
      When you’re gone at work, you should pump at least as often as baby eats. Baby will get your freshly pumped milk the very next day. If you won’t be able to pump at work, you can build a freezer stash but when you use that, it will lower your supply. To keep supply up, you need to pump as often as baby eats.
      After your freezer stash is gone, you’ll need to supplement with formula. You can continue to nurse just morning and night and supplement during the day but if you’d like to exclusively breastfeed, you’ll need to pump.
      Pumping should also include lots of massage massage to keep supply up.

      You are doing great mommy! There is no need to supplement. As long as you are seeing wet diapers, you know that baby is getting enough.
      There may be times that baby seems unsatisfied. They are usually in the afternoon or evening. When baby is in a growth spurt, they don’t need or want more milk. It’s just that growing so quickly hurts. Breastmilk has natural painkillers in it and mommy’s arms are comforting. 1st off, it’s important to be very consistent on pumping. Try to pump at around the same times every day. If you pump every 3 hours during the day, you’ll need to stay in that schedule. If you don’t pump for a long stretch one day, that can really affect supply.
      Add lots of breast massage before each pumping session. At least 10 min of massage before and then breast compressions during pumping. A breast pump doesn’t have the same stimulation as baby at the breast, so massage will add the stimulation.
      -It will take 3 to 5 days of consistent pumping with massage to start to see an increase. Then it will slowly keep increasing.
      - It’s normal to see less milk in the evening but that milk is slightly higher in fat.
      - Its normal to see an average of 30 to 45 mls an hour during the day. It will be higher in the morning and lower at night.
      It takes a lot of work but you can do it! ❤️
      If it gets overwhelming, just know that even a small amount of breastmilk is still very beneficial for baby. 🥰

      Your milk supply will stay up to match whatever baby is taking out. If baby wakes in the night do you nurse baby?
      Your body responds by making milk, in not only how much baby takes out but also the time of day that it’s removed. If baby should change up feeding times and want to nurse at night, you might have less milk but no worries at all, that milk will be a little higher in fat. Sometimes, if baby is teething or sick they’ll want to nurse more often. ❤️

      @@dianaf6055 I would start on the opposite side that you started on last time. Baby should nurse as long as possible on one side then when baby seems full and done, offer the 2nd side. Baby may only be on that 2nd side for a few seconds but may stay a few more minutes.
      After baby is a few months old like your little one, you can usually start to feed on just one side each feeding. Still offer the 2nd side but as baby gets better at removing milk and gets more easily distracted by looking around, they’ll not want or need that 2nd side.

      Sleep regression sucks but it shouldn’t last long. There are different schools of thought on letting baby self sooth or swaddling without nursing. I feel that it’s best to nurse baby back to sleep in the first few months because that short nursing session gives them slightly more fat and I think it’s best to respond to baby’s cues for baby to feel secure. If you are ever away from baby longer than expected, it’s good to hand express or pump. If that happens, you can even just express into a sink and not store it. This will keep supply up but even more importantly, it keeps from getting engorged or a clogged duct. ❤️

I. e., baby was 4 that month I got sciatica, so doctor suggested to take full bed rest so from that time onwards full to full bottle feeding (formula). Now as God grace I am fine with my health but if I take baby to latch it refuses like anything and never comes to me in feeding time,. If I force my baby it starts cry heavily . So I stopped that I have consulted lactation people too they told more often you need to pump but now my current situation hardly getting 5 drops, some times I do dry Pump (no milk) . I am really fed up mam with this, because starting days I used to feed my baby at least little or some ml but now no milk atall, starting days I used to get let down but now I felt so bad, I consult more lactation people, as per they say I followed, 😢 but,,, no words, I loved your videos very kind hearted mam you are ❤
