Most of the negative reviews wanted another Zachtronic Style game where there's a puzzle with one definite answer. This is more of a tactical game. Considering I love these kind of games and can't get even past level 2 on other Zachtronic games, this looks way better to me.
I'm not sure if you noticed, but your tanks do less reliable damage if they move which is why you may have felt that your tanks were getting unlucky with the damage rolls from time to time. Also - be aware that the game later introduces a very different minigame, which is very much a zachtronic spice on top of a game that looks like it plays a bit like the rather excellent Battle Isle from 1991.
So if u were wondering y ur tanks were rolling lower in terms of damage, it’s bc if a unit with a arrow pointing to a target next to the weapon then it does less damage if u move the same turn
I've always wanted to see someone do a playthrough of this old game called Tom Clancy's Endwar. You literally have to shout orders into your headset to play the game. I used to play it when I was in high school and had quite a few occasions where I had to explain to my parents why I was shouting to bomb station Foxtrot at my TV 😅
I remember having a lot of fun with that one but the voice recognition was kinda tricky. Could never use one of my unit because the game wasn't able to understand me.

mass8175 - the weapon mounted on his jeeps is a TOW anti-tank missile. The weapon carried by the small infantry squad, the one that needs a turn to set up, is a Dragon anti-tank missile. Neither is a recoilless rifle. Not sure about the weapons used by the opposition.
Is the machine gun on the helicopter functional? Range 2, damage 1, lots of movement suggests it might be good for taking on enemy infantry. I mean, better than just landing next to them
I wish you'd get curious and take a look at Ogre Battle some day (The PS1 version is far better at giving you information.). It's a game that's not hard to beat, but difficult to beat with a decent ending. You're given a half random, half known fantasy army, and just sort of thrown at the map... and spend the entire game trying not to piss off the people you're liberating....or subjugating them and trying not to get assassinated. It's a wild ride of a couple of games.

The 194th armored brigade is currently The US Army armor and cavalry training unit. This is the unit where Army tankers and cavalry scouts receive their basic training.
This game looks fun, if you like this sort of game, you should look at the one that really started it all, Battle Isle.. Battle Isle 2220 is just a ton of different units, supply lines, artillery. It's an old game but for some reason packs a lot of content. It has dynamic weather, where lakes can freeze and trap boats, or unfreeze and units on top fall to their watery doom. In the water, you have two layers of depth for submarines and such. In the air as well, two layers, normal and high altitude. It's super expansive and a ton of fun and sometimes brutal to play. I think you'd like it.

It seems like a more doable version. Unity of command usually starts off at a stalemate and with its turn limits makes your actual decision making very limited.

You know, I think historical strategy and story heavy games do better on this channel because Jon is so engaging when he's into the story. This is especially true when we are talking history. He's just a great guy. I think Jon thinks we are here for the game play though, and he edits out large swaths of story sometimes or does just one offs of things that were recommended because the story is great. Just watching the story again if you played it would be boring, sure, but watching Jon's reaction to it would be pretty cool. 👍🏼 Anyways this is deadly boring. Might as well be Jon saying "I'm playing a strategy game" over and over in a monotone. Ah well. I'm out! Have a good one, fellow nerds. 👍🏼

Endwar is amazing! It's such a fun game. Unfortunately the PC port is shit and I still haven't found a way to get it up to a more modern standard
