    Did my oil change last weekend drove 1 mile and luckily I stopped and noticed that all my new oil was dripping and all over the ground pulled my my oil dip stick out and the engine had no oil at all! dead empty. Engine did not seize up thankfully! Had it towed to my house and I believe this was the cause. I’m going to repair it myself this weekend! 🤞🏼 I don’t know know how it happened maybe I tightened the cap to much and cracked the housing (I believe).
    Had oil all underneath the cab from the force of driving spreading it all over the place 🤦🏻‍♂️
    Thanks for the video

      It happens we all make mistakes, this is why i always recommend. Double check the oring came out with the filter. Always warm up the car and check for leaks underneath. Test drive it around the block and check it again. Doing those things will help with most issues. If you tightened the cap too much and cracked the housing. You need this video next.

      It is how to replace the oil cooler. the housing for the cap is this part.
      Try not to be discouraged by mistakes when trying new things, it happens to everyone.

    Great video! How much do you think this could cost on average? Parts included

    • @SKPcars
      @SKPcars  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are talking shop rate to repair. I don't know what book is on the job. I can guess, though. A shop will charge almost double the cost of parts. Plus, the labor time at between 100-200 an hour. I would say probably right around 1k plus or minus to do the job. Dealer would be more probably like 1500-2000. 1 day on a weekend and maybe $200 in parts to do it yourself. We have links to the parts in the description. I changed mine for the aluminum one and it seems to have fixed my leaking problems!
    Maybe you can try it too next time it leaks

    • @SKPcars
      @SKPcars  ปีที่แล้ว

      I had looked into the aluminum one but mine ended up being an o-ring not the plastic block cracking. If i planned to keep this for a long time it would have done it but this one will probably be gone by 2024. I already have 150k miles on it and it's my commuter car. Thanks for the comment, make sure to subscribe if you haven't.

    did u flush ur coolan system out after i got a mix of the oil and coolant down some of tbe holes

    • @SKPcars
      @SKPcars  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question, I did not but it's not a bad idea to do it if you got a lot of oil in there. Generally a few ouces of oil won't hurt the cooling system. I usually will avoid flushing the cooling system because in the past i have had issues with it opening leaks i didn't know were in a system. I would do it if i were having a cooling problem and in this case if i got a lot of oil in there. Thanks for the comment, subscribe if you haven't already. I just cam and rocker job, another common problem on these.

    Just wondering if you gave the old housing a close look. And if you think it was cracked or not. It’s hard to get the aluminum ones right now and I’m thinking to just go with the O-rings. What do you suggest?

    • @SKPcars
      @SKPcars  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I checked over mine and found no cracks. I assumed it was the o-rings. The only thing i would say about the o-ring kit is there are a lot of o-rings, it is easy to pinch one and not find out until you put it back in. It is the cheaper alternative but you have to take great care to avoid pinching one, you would also have to inspect each piece for housing cracks to eliminate that possibility. I would suggest buying the replacement housing but i also understand that is the more expensive option. I hope that helps.

      This takes a few hours if you have done it before. I can take most of a day if you are not used to doing them.

    I have oil that mixed into my coolant reservoir, but no coolant into my oil . I was about to replace this in hopes that it helps and flush my radiator and coolan out and replace . Do you have any recommendations or suggestions of possible causes or course of actions?

    • @SKPcars
      @SKPcars  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This sounds like a blown head gasket. Sometimes when the gasket goes, oil leaks from the cylinder into the coolent jackets. Which causes it to return to the tank and flow through the radiator. With these, it could also be a bad oil cooler. The o-rings go bad on the bottom. Oil leaks into the valley and gets into the coolant. I would check if you oil building up in the valley. If you don't see fresh oil pooled up, then your head gasket failed. If you do, i would replace the oil cooler and change out your coolant. Hopefully this helps. Let me know if you need anything else.

      @SKPcars thank you , if it helps I just recently had to change out the oil pressure switch/sensor . I thought my issues were okay , changed the oil , and then noticed an oil leak . After that is when I noticed this issue . I'll see if I can find oil build up in the valley and swap the cooler

    Well... I guess it was not as bad as it could be? This job seems like it takes a while just wondering if its like a 2 day job for someone who has never done it before?

    • @SKPcars
      @SKPcars  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It mostly depends on how you do it. It could take 2 days if you take your time. I think i did it over 2 days because i was waiting for the parts. As long as you have some mechanical skill and give yourself time, it might take a day to do. I think i had about 4 hours in it and i was taking my time. I don't know if that helps, best of luck. Hopefully, it works out for you.

    Just had my mechanic do this. One day later check engine light came on and low oil pressure light as well. He now says I need a new oil pump. They he do something wrong???

    • @SKPcars
      @SKPcars  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is almost no way to tell for sure without having seen all of what it is and was doing.
      Generally with these you won't get a oil pressure warning. You get oil on top of the manifold and when you drive it oil rolls onto the exhaust on the drivers side when turning right. You can spot the issue by looking at the top of the engine under the intake in the center of the engine.
      If it already had the low oil/oil pressure it may have been the pump to begin with. If it was smoking and pooling oil on the ground it had a cooler issue. The pump is in the oil pan.

    i have a print of from a shop saying i need to do this gonna do it myself this weeknd it alsso says my "return line" for my coolant has a leak as well and the car gets kind of warm it will jump up to 225 at times mostly stays around 200-215 do u know wat the return line is? also have to replace valve cover gaskets

    • @SKPcars
      @SKPcars  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great questions, the oil cooler is attached to coolent lines. It is what the oil uses to cool down. Which one off the top of my head is the return line, i am not sure. It is probably running warm because the leak is depressurizing the system. Your leak could just be from a faulty cooler too. That will have the same effect but you need to investigate to make sure. Your return line leak could be just one of your main radiator hoses. You won't need valve cover gaskets. You don't remove those for the oil cooler. You need to check your intake gaskets. If those are worn, you will need to replace those. If you need anything else, let me know.

      Most important part of this is cleaning everything and torqing the 5 filter housing bolts to 8.8ft lbs. If you tighten it by hand and really tight you will crush those oring gaskets. Use an inch lb torque wrench guys.

    • @SKPcars
      @SKPcars  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @K40576 i think it is in this video but if not it is in the spark plug change video. I cut the top of the bracket so it would slide on. If that's not the bracket which one do you mean?

    • @K40576
      @K40576 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I was able to get it back on. I changed this oil/Coolant housing because that area was flooded with fluid and was leaking on my passenger and driver side. I just changed that part, reassembled everything, added some more coolant and hoping the leak is fixed.

    • @K40576

      It should solve the problem, normally oil in the valley like that is caused by this issue.

    • @SKPcars
      @SKPcars  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That sound may have been everything filling back up into the cooler. As long as the oil doesn't start pooling and there is no coolant in the valley, it should be ok.
