      Rockabilly - created by the King at Sun Studio, Memphis, in 1954. Five years before Setzer was born. His is a mixture of punk and rockabilly, so not really rockabilly. Much too loud and distorted. Still, a great guitarist.

      and it isn't recorded in mono single track, the sound is way more dense than actual 50s records.
      That is also why live concerts in the 50s were SO good. Real sound, not a tin can sound de-tuned for car stereos and a single 8 ohm dash mounted speaker.

    • @tracykingston9668
      @tracykingston9668 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SuperChuckRaney Yup, studio recordings were "compressed" for AM radio because of the bandwidth issue. Then FM came along and made a vast improvement of the frequency range of the broadcasted tune, but people needed good equipment to take advantage of the FM signal. In the old days of the first FM radio music, most cars couldn't take advantage of it, but homes did
      a lot better. Just IMHO.

    I love these live takes of the Stray Cats. To this day, Leon Drucker/Lee Rocker plays bass uncredited on loads of stuff, especially upright acoustic bass. His slapping compensates for the lack of a full drum kit, and the backbeat that He and Slim Jim Phantom generate in this vid is incredible. It allows Brian Setzer free range on the guitar. Playing a semi-acoustic guitar live at volume is a sound guy's nightmare, but Setzer is in total control of his instrument.
    Add that to the sheer energy of the song, Setzer's singing, and the showmanship of this trio, and it's what live music is all about. I know loads of people who wouldn't give the time of day for Rockabilly generally, but they love the Stray Cats, and that's all you need to know!

To be fair, it was mostly for time (TV was timed to the second) and because TV studios did not have the sound quality of recording studios. It was obviously summer, I had just turned 14 (1981), the jukebox started up, this song was revealed, and so began a long love story. 42 years of happiness thank you Tomcats. //// C'était l'été évidemment, je venais d'avoir 14 ans (1981), le juke-box s'est mis en marche, cette chanson s'est dévoilée, ainsi commença une longue histoire d'amour. 42 années de bonheur merci les Matous.

    I got hooked on Rock n Roll/Rockabilly listening to my dad's records as a kid in the 70's. Still rockin at 48.Saw them live at The Palace in the very early 90's. One of the best concerts I've ever been to, they did three encores and the crowd still couldn't get enough. A great night, I'll never forget it. Thanks for the upload Mr Sloth.

    I saw an interview where Brian stated the Stray Cats were the best in the world at what they do. I assumed he was an egomaniac trying to get attention. Then I saw the band in the final tour in the Twin Cities. Brian, Lee and Jim proved Brian was simply telling the truth! It ain't bragging if you can really do it. Thanks for the great music guys!

    Back in the days when these guys got hot I played in a cover band that played all of the "hip" rock stuff. This was the early '80s, so we had to play all of the "new wave" stuff. Being a Texas guitar player I was always glad to be playing The Stray Cats stuff because their guitar stuff was what we all grew up playing here. "OK, this is the fun stuff!"
