MSI GS60 GHOST PRO-064 2014 display problem. Screen goes black.

  • Here's the problem:
    - The screen goes black suddenly (and sometimes flashing white as shown);
    - While the screen is black, the computer keeps on working normally, if connected to a tv via hdmi output (which makes me feel better, as it doesn't seem to be the graphic card);
    - If I put it to sleep and wake it up in some seconds, sometimes the display goes back to normal, sometimes comes back to black;
    - Sometimes it only happens when I click to run an application on fullscreen. Which means: if I ALT-F4 it, put it to sleep, wake it up on desktop scren - it's perfect. But then if I click to run the program again on full screen(e.g. Chrome or any other), BOOM, it goes black again. Windowned applications won't trigger the problem (for example the calculator);
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks :)
    EDIT:
    - What I found out: If I open the laptop's bottom lid, unplug the display's flat cable conected to the motherboard, and connect it again, the problem is solved for some time. But occasionally it happens again.
    EDIT 2: To make sure the connection between the display's flat cable and its motherboard slot is steady, I had to put a small piece of paper folded some times (to get bulky) placed over the connector.
    It means when I close the notebook bottom lid, the lid itself makes some pressure over the paper, which presses the connector constantly. I guess it helped.
    EDIT 3: After many years I've never had the problem definetely solved. The paper is still there, doing its job, holding the connector in place. The black screen rarely happens. When it does, all I do is press the O/I button to make it sleep, wait for about 5 secs and wake it up again.
    It happens, perhaps, once every 3 or 4 months. I can deal with that.

      There are many replies on the comment made by Ed.
      In one of those, I explain what I did as a workaround to fix this. Not a permanet solution though.
      Right now it happens once in a month or less often than this.
      Just check it out over those comments!

    i have the same problem right now, did you find any way to make it work?

      Yes I found a temporary solution! I`ll try to explain.
      When I opened the bottom lid, unplugged the 30 pin display cable from the board (and connected it again) it imediately worked - for some days, and then started going black again - as said on the description.
      So I thought it could be a bad connection, maybe it was kind of loose (and getting looser with time, until the point of not working anymore).
      Then I tested this: i got a piece of paper and got it folded some times (so it gets some bulk) and matching the size of the connector. After that, I took a piece of electrical tape and placed/fixed the piece of paper over the connector (covering it perfectly).
      Finally, when I put the back lid, screwing it, the pressure it makes over the paper goes through the connector, pressing it against the board. So, it`s not loose anymore and it`s been working for a couple months (no problem since then).
      I hope I was clear and helped. If you got any questions ill try my best to explain again. I just won`t dare open the bottom cover anymore to show you hahahah it`s working, better not touch.
      [Please note that there is the other connector of this cable... the other one is plugged directly on the display.... maybe the problem can be there]

      (Vi que você é brasileiro, mas vou responder em inglês pra thread não se perder).
      I'm having the exact same problem with my MSI GS60 2PC Ghost. Has it been stable so far, as you said, after you managed to keep the cable firmly plugged in? Was any permanent solution found? I noticed it happens when I take my laptop out of home, so the movement of me walking with it in my backpack makes it happen. I'll try doing the same as you did though and see if it works. That's really annoying.

      No permanent solution yet. And I guess I won`t find one as I can deal with it like that.
      So, far it`s pretty good. I`d not say it`s perfect because after some weeks (doing well) it happened once again - couple days ago. The screen went black by the time I was playing something. I paused the game, pressed shortly the on/off button to make it sleep, waited for some time, woke it up and kept on playing normally. Didn`t happen repeatedly this time.
      Maybe it`s starting to get loose again. I suppose the heat over the electrical tape is affecting the glue, making it slightly unstable with time. So, all I have to do is open it , clean it, and replace the tape.

      Em português.
      Valeu por ter comentado aqui.
      São poucos brasileiros que conhecem a marca (para notebook), e por isso a assistência técnica oficial é em um único lugar em SP e eu não senti muita firmeza quando entrei em contato.
      Fui na gambiarra mesmo, assim que percebi o foco do problema. A princípio, estava usando apenas a fita isolante pra fixar o conector na placa mãe, mas tive que trocar umas 3 vezes, já que durava uns 15 dias (as vezes mais as vezes pouco menos).
      Então eu tive a ideia de colocar esse papel de modo que faça volume exatamente em cima do conector, de modo que a tampa de baixo pressione mais ele contra a placa mãe.
      Ficou muito bom, e durante meses só deu um problema como dito aí em cima.
      Espero que você consiga resolver isso também.
      Fico feliz em ter ajudado.
      Qualquer coisa, estamos aí! Abraço.
      Ah, não esquece de deixar a resposta - se deu certo ou não. Valeu!

      É, eu comprei meu laptop quando tava no Reino Unido, é bem raro aqui no Brasil. Pois é! Isso começou do nada há alguns dias... Eu vou seguir o que você disse e dar uma olhada. Talvez tenha ficado mal conectado, porque um tempo atrás tive que trocar minha bateria (que tava começando a inchar...) e o cara deve ter mexido no conector. Mas eu volto aqui sim e deixo a resposta! Valeu mesmo, vai me salvar bastante!

      mesma coisa aqui... O meu parece que morreu de vez... Já tentei remover/conectar várias vezes mas parece que morreu mesmo... Andei até vendo display novo no ebay ($70 usd), mas tô na dúvida entre arrumar ou vender as peças....

      Hi. I still have this problem going on sporadically but still have no clue about what it might be.
      The workaround I did to partially fix it was described in one of the comment's replies
