He was ACTING- You could tell this was set-up. Why else would Ellen have the photo on screen. Very unusal for Beatty- really terrible. I've never seen him this way- he notoriously hates interviews, but somehow felt the desire to try to charm the audience. Surely he'd want people to see his movie- but this was so over the top.

Beatty is a GENIOUS. The subtle nuances of Hoffman and Beatty in "Ishtar" were so increadably funny. I didn't like "Ishtar" at all when I first saw it, and I even walked out of the theatre. Today, I have seen it at least 10 times, and I have to say, there humor was so subtle in their characters, that once you get into the characters, you cannot get enough of that movie, it's hilarious. Only those Two could pull that off.
They were dancing strangely around those questions. Did they just say Warren was trying to get Gary Shandling to hook him up with Ellen? And then Ellen went on to say he was already with Annette at the time. And Ellen acted kind of weird about saying she made out with Gary...was that off screen?
They kissed on the show. It was hardly what the kids these days would call making out. Ellen wasn't out yet, and trying to get by as an actor and comedian. She would never have got her own sitcom if there were even a hint of her being gay, so it's no surprise other people were oblivious. That's the way she wanted it, it's not because they weren't woke. When she came out her career came crashing down in flames for a few years so she was wise to stay in, and very lucky indeed to be able to recover.
