Part of the reputation for bad accuracy of the SKS comes from the fact that both the rifle and ammunition were produced by so many different countries. Bore diameters and projectile diameter vary by manufacturer, get a skinny bullet in a wide bore and its not gonna shoot great.
Now I want to see a competition using "anything but a scope mount" where people just tape and glue optics to cheap rifles and see who can shoot the farthest, the most accurate. Give everyone the same supplies, duct-tape, popsicle sticks, you name it, and let them engineer something miraculous!

I swear that has to be the worst scope mount I've ever seen, I've seen Syrian rebels using hose clamp to hold the scope down, bubbas JB welding ACOGs into antique rifles, but this. This takes the cake
If you look closely at the FBI photos, you will clearly see that the scope was held on with Jose clamps covered with electrical tape. You can see the clamps screw just forward of the trigger guard and in front of the mag release.
You see Brandon, when you free float the scope rather than the barrel, your shots will always be approximately on target! Classic Soviet engineering solution if I've ever seen one!
You're right. I was thinking East Turdistan engineering but they would be using raw hide strips from goat skin. The electrical tape is definitely a technological leap ahead.

If the scope's attachment is really flexible, it will get bumped by each shot, but it will most likely return to its previous position, kind of. In contrast, a properly attached scope gets a hell of a concussion from each shot and therefore needs to be quite sturdy from the outset. Of course, I'd prefer a proper picatinny scope attachment anytime, but this demonstration is quite revealing about our common prejudices and misconceptions on physics. Sometimes, quirky things simply work, because nobody told them they shouldn't.

It fires a 17.76 caliber laser dart and it recycles pixie gas to operate a long stroke piston (so it is, in my opinion, less accurate than the AK-16 which we all know is the preferred assault rifle of leprechaun militias).

@@nickvanachthoven7252 The chrome lined Russian ones with the darker stocks and blade bayonet are the best ones. Best shooters to keep in the family. They got thrown into storage and refurbished for special units, because the AK-47 came out the next year. The older Norincos shipped from the factory were respectable. I used one and it didn't let me down, but you could end up with a garyu asf piss colored stock. Anything hybrid is usually sketchy and misfit, and especially now where things are used up, corner cut, and speculated cringe levels of hard on for $$$.

@@brentbell9543My Norinco SKS sits in the same type of Monte Carlo stock, made by ATI outdoors. Bayonet intact, it folds away just fine. No cut out in the stock. The ATI stock allows for better length of pull. Makes the SKS a better shooter.

Big fan of that rifle. I’ve got three but one was a war trophy dad picked up off a dead NVA. It’s very reliable in its standard configuration, it’s easy to maintain, it’s (well, it used to be) relatively cheap, and ammo is everywhere.
I bought an SKS out of the crate years ago for about $60. It still shoots great and now I want to tape a cheap scope to it!

@@nickvanachthoven7252 The chrome lined Russian ones with the darker stocks and blade bayonet are the best ones. Best shooters to keep in the family. They got thrown into storage and refurbished for special units, because the AK-47 came out the next year. The older Norincos shipped from the factory were respectable. I used one and it didn't let me down, but you could end up with a garyu asf piss colored stock.
Anything hybrid is usually sketchy and misfit, and especially now where things are used up, corner cut, and speculated cringe levels of hard on for $$$.
