The sharp shooters didn’t take the shot right away because the kid wasn’t armed. It confused them. The real shooter was on a different roof. The kid thought he was hired by trumps people to go on the roof and create a buzz to help their views. He had no idea he would die that day and a gun tossed to his side afterwards. I am a veteran, and while 130 yards is a chip shot when aiming center mass, people have no idea how impossible it is to aim for an ear, or kneecap someone, or wing someone, etc. Reality is NOT Hollywood.

The irony is that while the assassination attempt has sparked renewed calls to ban "weapons of war" like the AR-15 used by the shooter, the Secret Service sniper popped the shooter with a bolt action rifle. If AR's were banned, the shooter would have likely also just used a bolt action, which even in a traditional hunting configuration with a decent scope would have likely been more accurate.
Likely /far/ more accurate at that note. A hunting rifle with a decent scope, compared to some junkheads AR. The difference should be pretty clear even when typed out. One is meant for sporting and hunting. It is meant to be accurate at these distances, if not longer. The other has configurations meant for long range, but those include a /scope/ and usually longer barrels to maximise both spin and velocity on the exiting round. I still feel it is incredibly stupid (Even as an English man myself) that people declare the AR a weapon of war, and try to ban it as such. That is like saying we should have stripped peasantry of their tools during the middle ages, because some dickhead had the bright idea of strapping a bunch of leather whips tipped with steel to the end of their hoes to produce flails. Weapons, much like farming implements, are tools. Dickheads will be dickheads, what matters is ensuring those people around them are adequately trained and prepared to defend themselves should push come to shove, and that they have the EQUIPMENT to do so. No one is good enough to hit an ear intentionally at 150m, even with a great rifle, especially with a narrow front profile. The only ones who say that are people who never fired a rifle.

from the blurry photos, its hard to say. It looks like a small 3x scope at the most. But most likely a red dot. Or just iron sights. All you can really see is a bump at the end of the handguard, where the upper receiver meets it. It's just so blurry, and the FBI isn't releasing any info at all. Kind of like they are hiding something.

Based on the info I was able to source here is what I found... Matthew Crooks used a DPMS AR circa 2011, back then most DPMS AR's were using 1:9 twist rates, he also purchased 50 rounds of Aguila 62 grain FMJBT, interestingly 1:9 twist rates are perfect for 62 grain bullets. He was using no magnified optics but did have a small red dot sight as depicted in this video, very accurately represented mind you. Range was about 150 yards with a slight elevation advantage to the shooter. His DPMS rifle should be a 16 inch barrel, so we can safely say muzzle velocity of about 2850 - 2900 ft/s, at 150 yards on that particular day the round that hit Trumps ear should have been moving about 2650 - 2700 ft/s. Now depending on how "cheap" aka crap the shooters optic was he could have had an MOA of 3 inches per 100 yards or 10 inches per 100 yards, also its not known if he had it zeroed in at 100 yards or at all. I can tell you right now, that shit was NOT staged, Trump is lucky to be alive, and the shooter thankfully was fucking stupid not just for the attempt but for how he attempted, it thankfully looked like next to 0 actual thought went into it, almost like it was impulsive. But hey what do I know, I am just some random internet keyboard warrior that definitely does not write ballistics code for military simulators or does a lot of IRL shooting because I am fascinated with guns and how they work... As for the sniper that took out Crooks, he was using a Remington M2010 ESR (Correction, it is in fact an Accuracy International AXSR) chambered in .300 Win Mag, if they are using government sourced ammunition (I have no clue if they are), then it would be Mk248 Mod 1, DODIC AB43. The sniper had an elevation advantage on the shooter (Crooks), from the very graphic photos available online, it looks like the shot went into the shooters left side below the "temple" behind his left eye socket and traveled down while expanding, it likely severed the optical nerve of his left eye, blew out his sinus cavities as well as the roof of his mouth, before continuing down and exiting out the rear right portion of his head underneath his jawline. What that means was the shooter (Crooks) FELT that shot, he was not instantly dead, it bled out to death from hemorrhaging, and was most likely blind as he asphyxiated on his own blood until he died.

That neither of the CS teams with 300win mag bolt actions on the roof(s) behind the stage took the shot to eliminate the threat. They didn't have a clear line of sight due to trees. It was a third CS team much farther out. Which was equipped with a lr308/ar10. Guns and gear says it was about 488yards DT even says in his speech at the rnc. That the shot that eliminated the threat was from a 'much greater distance'
Shooter was at 151 yards and corner of building was at 130 so that's where that comes from. An ear facing you is about half an inch wide and at 151 yards that is .331 MOA accuracy for those that are curious. What that translates too is that not even the worlds best Olympian shooter can accurately make a shot on an ear at that distance because even with the perfect shot it has an equipment limitation and you can NOT accurately predict where that round will land within its 4.5-5 inch grouping. I am glad someone finally addressed this as I was tweeting it away at larpers for a week.
Good stubby pencil work. Brandon should have emphasized that. He said 4.5” error but that would be firing it in a vise (max accuracy for the gun). This kid was probably capable of holding a 10 or 20 moa at best.

Occam's razor, I don't think the shooter understood a lot of this. I think he hit three people in the crowd because he was a bad shot, and Trump capitalized on the opportunity. He's a businessman, selling to you is his whole shtick. Someone opened fire at the rally prior, and Secret Service had him down and off the stage before he could. Notice how he stuck his head out while they were trying to get him out? That was on purpose. It was a show.
Believe or not, having no magnification actually helps to steady the aim. Noone who ever looked through a red dot at even 100m would think that a setup like this would be used to stage a close shave. Not if the shavee values his life.
Yeah I tried a gallon jug at 190yrds with red dot and it covered the jug with the dot on the lowest setting that I could still see the dot. I missed my 1st shot but 2nd one nailed it.

I live in oregon, I got pulled over the other day with 150lbs of tanerite and an AR in the trunk, I got the whole domestic terrorist treatment. From the breakdowns I've seen so far, it seems like the first shot was the one that hit Trump and also injured a bystander, the next couple missed or injured another bystander, and when Trump hit the deck he fired several shots aimed lower which killed the firefighter.
Remember though, Corey Comperatore died protecting his family in that attack, and two other bystanders seriously injured. It was not without consequences.

The irony is that while the assassination attempt has sparked renewed calls to ban "weapons of war" like the AR-15 used by the shooter, the Secret Service sniper popped the shooter with a bolt action rifle. If AR's were banned, the shooter would have likely also just used a bolt action, which even in a traditional hunting configuration with a decent scope would have likely been more accurate.

Likely /far/ more accurate at that note. A hunting rifle with a decent scope, compared to some junkheads AR. The difference should be pretty clear even when typed out.
One is meant for sporting and hunting. It is meant to be accurate at these distances, if not longer. The other has configurations meant for long range, but those include a /scope/ and usually longer barrels to maximise both spin and velocity on the exiting round.
I still feel it is incredibly stupid (Even as an English man myself) that people declare the AR a weapon of war, and try to ban it as such. That is like saying we should have stripped peasantry of their tools during the middle ages, because some dickhead had the bright idea of strapping a bunch of leather whips tipped with steel to the end of their hoes to produce flails.
Weapons, much like farming implements, are tools. Dickheads will be dickheads, what matters is ensuring those people around them are adequately trained and prepared to defend themselves should push come to shove, and that they have the EQUIPMENT to do so. All you can really see is a bump at the end of the handguard, where the upper receiver meets it. It's just so blurry, and the FBI isn't releasing any info at all. Based on the info I was able to source here is what I found...
Matthew Crooks used a DPMS AR circa 2011, back then most DPMS AR's were using 1:9 twist rates, he also purchased 50 rounds of Aguila 62 grain FMJBT, interestingly 1:9 twist rates are perfect for 62 grain bullets.
He was using no magnified optics but did have a small red dot sight as depicted in this video, very accurately represented mind you.
Range was about 150 yards with a slight elevation advantage to the shooter.
His DPMS rifle should be a 16 inch barrel, so we can safely say muzzle velocity of about 2850 - 2900 ft/s, at 150 yards on that particular day the round that hit Trumps ear should have been moving about 2650 - 2700 ft/s.
Now depending on how "cheap" aka crap the shooters optic was he could have had an MOA of 3 inches per 100 yards or 10 inches per 100 yards, also its not known if he had it zeroed in at 100 yards or at all.
I can tell you right now, that shit was NOT staged, Trump is lucky to be alive, and the shooter thankfully was fucking stupid not just for the attempt but for how he attempted, it thankfully looked like next to 0 actual thought went into it, almost like it was impulsive.
But hey what do I know, I am just some random internet keyboard warrior that definitely does not write ballistics code for military simulators or does a lot of IRL shooting because I am fascinated with guns and how they work...
As for the sniper that took out Crooks, he was using a Remington M2010 ESR (Correction, it is in fact an Accuracy International AXSR) chambered in .300 Win Mag, if they are using government sourced ammunition (I have no clue if they are), then it would be Mk248 Mod 1, DODIC AB43. The sniper had an elevation advantage on the shooter (Crooks), from the very graphic photos available online, it looks like the shot went into the shooters left side below the "temple" behind his left eye socket and traveled down while expanding, it likely severed the optical nerve of his left eye, blew out his sinus cavities as well as the roof of his mouth, before continuing down and exiting out the rear right portion of his head underneath his jawline. What that means was the shooter (Crooks) FELT that shot, he was not instantly dead, it bled out to death from hemorrhaging, and was most likely blind as he asphyxiated on his own blood until he died.

Shooter was at 151 yards and corner of building was at 130 so that's where that comes from. An ear facing you is about half an inch wide and at 151 yards that is .331 MOA accuracy for those that are curious. What that translates too is that not even the worlds best Olympian shooter can accurately make a shot on an ear at that distance because even with the perfect shot it has an equipment limitation and you can NOT accurately predict where that round will land within its 4.5-5 inch grouping. I am glad someone finally addressed this as I was tweeting it away at larpers for a week.

Occam's razor, I don't think the shooter understood a lot of this. I think he hit three people in the crowd because he was a bad shot, and Trump capitalized on the opportunity. He's a businessman, selling to you is his whole shtick. Someone opened fire at the rally prior, and Secret Service had him down and off the stage before he could. Notice how he stuck his head out while they were trying to get him out? That was on purpose. It was a show.

Regular Bullets don't have an AOE effect. If it grazes you, it grazes you. Obviously there are rounds capable of incendiary or airburst, but regular rounds don't.
