Actually, the jacking point is on the sub frame directly BEHIND the pinch welds and not the pinch welds themselves. Take a look at the scissor jack provided by Subaru. There is a groove cut into it (4:00) so that it does not contact the pinch welds, allowing the vehicle to be lifted by the sub frame jacking point..
@@KingPeaceus: You should always use jack stands anytime you work under a raised vehicle. But I wouldn't (and don't) rest the entire weight of the vehicle on the pinch welds. They are not designed to support it. The pinch welds are part of the fender/body not the sub frame. Will the pinch welds support the vehicle? Yes, but you run the risk of damaging them. The weight of the vehicle should rest on the sub frame not the pinch welds.
I feel like in the next 5 years this will become their most viewed video; especially when the 2020 Toyota 86 comes out and the price of older 86s tank down.
Zoshy they’ll be worn down if someone does the work themselves since jack stands progressively wear them out. That being said, who says the owner doesn’t own a lift or similar type of device?
Yea that's true that being said i enjoy the piece of mind knowing i did the work correctly and not rushed. If someone ever tried to use that as a point to negotiate I'd tell them to suck it lol
I haven't bent them yet and have had it up on jack stands at the pinch welds. Now it will bend the seam if you place the jack stands anywhere besides the pinch weld, don't ask me how i know....>:(
Your's is the correct method for jacking to avoid damage to the pinch welds. Although, you may be at risk of cracking the 2X4s which may present a problem. Rubber jacking pads with a groove cut in them work well.
Are there alternative points where I can put the jack stand? My side skirt does not give enough clearance to place the jack stand. Cutting out the area might not be a good solution either...
Jack stands should not go anywhere near pinch welds. The U shape at the top puts pressure in all the wrong places. Jack stands should be on the frame or under suspension anchor points.
Can i ask the lenght of your floor jack? I have to buy one and i would like to jack up the rear like you did :) Is something like 70-80 cm good or do i need the Long version which is 93 cm? Thanks a lot :)
Hey man your videos are awesome my engine bay is very dirty and it’s ugly tooo look at, I want to clean it in car wash using engine clean mode, but I am afraid that water could damage the engine and stuff. So can you make a video how to properly wash the engine and clean it so it can shine like the first time you got it! That would be appreciated if you do.

Had the same question and ended up getting coilovers. Given that you'll need alignment and probably want to get corner balancing too, it seems that in the long run the price of coilovers isn't that much higher.
i recommend Drift armors rear bashbar with jacking point. it defeats all the problems you were talking about with the rear and it fits under the stock "or any other" bumper. driftarmor.com/?olsPage=products%2Frear-bar-wjack-point

Jacked up also mainly means getting yelled at or being chewed out in the army.
Not what you said.
I'm going to be doing some work on my 86 next week and literally opened TH-cam to find a video on the jack points for these cars. Perfect timing!

Great video, exactly what I was looking for. Went ahead and got the Cusco ramps.
Today we are gonna learn how to jack up your car
But first, jack up your car.
(that was mighty car mods joke)
Just bought an 86... Imma need this video 😂
Protip- check the pinchwelds on a used car to see if the owner did the work, or if a shop did work mostly :)
How would you know

My 1st one of these. Good to know.
Old video but very helpful! And I need ramps for sure, my 23 GR86 is way too low with my lip even at stock height lol
Do people just bend their pinch welds when you put them on jack stands? I milled a slot out of 2x4 to go on either side of the pinch welds.

Don’t forget to put spare wheels and tires underneath for an additional safety measure. Very handy and good video.

Are you guys getting any more of those tail lights??
Any word on em? Im still waiting for mine
Question if I am only doing back work like switch exhaust tips can I just pick up the back
Does the 2nd gen BRZ have the same jack point in this video?

What’s the really loud sound the lift makes while it’s lifting the car up? First time I heard it I thought something snapped
Those clacking sounds are locks, which is part of the safety system on the lift :)
My pinch welds are bent and destroyed Subaru said that was normal when I took it in. Still work to jack up the car.
Use jack stand pads that have a groove for the pinch weld to sit in.

did you end up finding any results? i have one pinch weld that’s bent and im not sure if you can bent it back?
just curious as too what color gold the rims on this 86 are??

Why use a wooden block on the jack?
So the jack doesn't mar the under carriage/jacking point.
