If the battery in your key dies, you can simply put the keyfob near the starter button and start the car. There is a chip in the key that the starter button can pick up on at a short range. You just keep the key in the hand that is pressing the button and it should work.
Luke I've accidentally left empty comments before, just tired asf and usually miss the right button then end up accidentally leaving a comment on just their name rip
Next time, take the five extra minutes to warm your car up so you can show that the steps work. Also, put an SD card in and show it. A little extra prep would have gone a long way.
You can reduce cabin noise by taking cover grommet off of the cigarette lighter behind the glove box and moving it to cover the tube just below the glove box. The tube was put there to help you hear the engine, but if you're like me and you want to hear the radio instead this helps.
OMFGGGG My brother borrowed my FR-S and came back and said he broke my trunk button on my keys... NO I JUST PAUSED THIS VIDEO & WENT OUT THERE AND SAW HE JUST PRESSED THAT BUTTON NO ONE KNEW ABOUT.................. it's been 5 months!! #annoyed
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I THOUGHT THIS EXACT THING AS SOON AS HE SAID IT! "hmm. i wonder how many times things will slide around in the trunk and hit that button on accident, and people will think their remote is broken!?" well.... at LEAST once... @Jessica Brown
The second gen Impreza and Forester definitely don't have it. I'm wrapping a bungee strap around my garage rafters and hooking one end to my hood latch to get the same effect now :(
Clav3l Gaming I'm 6'1, there's no 'plowing' going on in any of today's cars for me except maybe a Ford Flex. On the other hand, if you're not dating a cow, you CAN check her right angle bend over the deck lid or just lie her lengthwise on the hood.
Similar to #2 the shift light, in DISP (MPGs and outdoor temp gauge) there is an option to add a tachometer light and beep to notify the driver of when to shift at the set rpms. I usually set it to 2,800 for fuel mileage or about 6,500 for hooning.
holy crap. i work as a toyota tech and even i didnt know about the majority of this stuff... guess im turning that TCS off completely the next time i get to drive the company's gt86 ;-)
Howler I always thought to completely turn off all driving aids you hold down the sports mode and tcs bottons down simultaneously for a few seconds until the lights on the dash change..it definitely cuts off tcs and traction control!
Sounds like my last visit to the Toyota dealership service department. They had to ring Subaru to find out how to re-initialise the self leveling headlights on my 2017 to compensate for the Toyota option lowering springs. That was after they told me it couldn't be done of course. I found the Toyota tech doc on how to do it in less than 5 minutes. All that certified training money being spent right I suppose.
Actually, as a fellow Toyota Tech, this is great info for diag. This will help us from tripping false-positive ABS codes and having to hook up a scanner, drive the car and clear them. This also helps to have fun when I get my own.
On a side note, you wouldn't believe the amount of features all Toyota's have withTechstream. I would honestly recommend people to get the Lite version with the $30 OBD2 dongle. It gives you a lot of access in custom little features like the beep tone, light control for exterior and interior.
I just bought a 2017 BRZ! My first manual! Even though I've pretty much gotten the shifting down now, but showing the gear I'm in is still a nice way to double check. Thanks!
i just bought a 2017 BRZ and im loving it! funnest car ive ever driven! these little tips are dope cause i bought it private sale and got no run down of the vehicle before buying! thank you!!!
A 'hidden' feature I found on mine was that it had a hill start assist, to activate you start the car, hold the traction control off button for 30 seconds, wait until the hill light flashes on - then off again, press the traction control off button again, restart the car and when you lift off the break on a hill it holds until you set off! Had the car for 10 months before I found that one!
No, I think he's talking about the door handle sensor that unlocks the door when you touch it. It normally only unlocks the door you touch, but after the button combo on the fob, both doors unlock.
Who has the time to actually push a button to unlock their car.. next you'll say we should have to turn on the A/C if we're hot, or turn on our wipers if it's raining
FYI for any FRS owners (and BRZ if you don't mind giving up the auto dim feature in the review mirror). If you have a dash cam or radar detector that you would like to hard wire to power when the vehicle is on. There is a wire above the dome light that controls the auto dim feature in the mirror for the BRZ models (probably nicer GT86 models as well) but if you have a base FRS, the wires are still there. You can T into those really easy to not have to run wires all the way down to the glove box cigarette lighter.
The pedal dance activates what is called diagnostic mode. Aside from traction control it also disables the electronic brake distribution system, which is why its good for track days. Allows you to use trail braking without the EBD doing crazy shit when you least expect it. Other than the traction control stuff you wont notice the difference unless you're really havin a go.
I don't own one of these, but I'm really researching one as a track toy/ no snow car, and congrats on actually making a "tips a tricks" style video that actually teaches you something! Thank you
Subaru actually has a function as well where you can deactivate your key fob so it won’t function. This is for if you go hiking or swimming or something and just want to take the key blade with you, you can then lock the key fob away and the vehicle it’s a lesser potential for theft. Just thought it was a cool trick to share, if you want to know how to do it there is videos on Subaru’s TH-cam page as well. I know this is an old video but I love everything you do and it’s inspiring and keeps faith for finding my way and doing what makes me happy as well. Keep it up man!
I thought this was going to be a dumb video with a pretentious over tone with him saying very obvious things, but this was very informative. I don't even drive one of the three cars and i watched all the way through
thanks for showing how to open both doors with the keyless entry via driver door handle. that always annoyed me that it would only unlock the driver door then I'd have to hit the unlock button inside the car to open the passenger door
I own a 2017 BRZ. Found the hidden cigarette lighter receptacle. Also was able to reconfigure the door unlock settings by holding both lock and unlock buttons until I heard a beep.
I'm about to pick up my 2019 86 GT at the dealer, so I'm watching videos to pass the time and Robbie mentions the pain-in-the-ass only driver door unlocks fix. My wife's 2013 Prius V only unlocks the driver door as well unless you hit the unlock button to unlock all doors. After watching this video, I had to grab the keys, run outside and hold the lock & unlock buttons on the fob... a few seconds later, the Prius V beeps a few times and I grab the door handle BAM! ALL doors unlock now! Thanks Robbie!
I work at a subaru dealership and just realized I pushed that trunk button today on a car and never pushed it back to where it was... but I guess if that car comes back I'll at least know how to fix it! Hahaha
Im not sure if the pedal dance is different on newer brz’s but on older ones its different than you showed. You start the car and hold the brake while the e-brake is down, then you do what you did in the video but then you have to also press the brake down twice again at the end to turn it off. At least thats how it is with my 2013
It’s not so much that things were hidden or not intended for owners to know about the GT86, but rather for those who have the lazy tendency to not read their owner’s manual, like myself, will miss some things like these. But one feature I’m certain is overlooked or omitted from any mention nowadays is how the passenger side window controls will not be lit when you lock the controls. I know this existed on some older cars, but it’s fun to learn some things about your car as if they were Easter eggs. Nothing wrong with that. Good vid. Haters will hate no matter what, even when the intent is purely for the good of others.
wow that trunk tip blew me away lol I thought my trunk sensor or something was broken that I thought about going to a dealer. All the other tips were so helpful getting to know the little things about my car. Thanks!!!
The "pedal dance" is not really necessary. It's diagnostics mode for the workshop. With the TRC and ESC off just by holding the button down, only retains the EBD - Electronic brake distribution. Some pros have found it might ping the inside front brake in corners and may try and prevent rotation on the brakes in certain situations. You absolutely do not need the pedal dance for hooning around or drifting. Also be aware that the car records when it is put into diagnostics mode, so if you end up in a major accident while it is, good luck explaining that to the insurance or the judge.
Most of these were useful as a new manual driver. I couldn't find the gear shift light anywhere, so I thought I didn't have it. Didn't know the car had to be in acc mode only. That is going to be super helpful while I'm still learning. I didn't know about the cig lighter in the glove box, good to know as I have a dash cam as well. The door unlocking will be nice since it's not only me going places. Thank you so much! Your videos have helped me TREMENDOUSLY! I have a 2015 brz and I'm loving it.
I thought my remote and trunk release button were not working while i tried to open my trunk and was using my keys to open for a while. I can no thanks to this vid. Thank you. Very useful
Yeah, it's all in the Owner's Manual. And I wish he'd stop saying "cigarette lighter" - they're 12V outlets, and they're not able to handle the heat from an actual cigarette lighter.
Just wanted to address one thing, you said for the trunk into a safe tip that you can only fold the seats down from the trunk, you can actually fold the seats down from inside the cabin
For the traction control one, instead of doing the pedal trick you can just hold the traction off button (driver side) for about 10 seconds when the car is running and all traction will go off. I've been doing it this way since I got my BRZ!
OH and the keyless entry on your remote, just hit it twice quickly when you go to unlock your doors. When you do the double click of the button it unlocks the driver's door and then the passenger's door. This way you can choose to either open just the driver's door or both with a quick button press. The main reason it is defaulted that way is to help prevent an intruder from jumping into the car with you and trying to car jack you. At least that is the main reason most car manufactures have that as an added security feature.
Well where there i will there is a way, look up tj hunts brz.. He did a kit and it sceemed like the only problem he had was to get misimoto fans for the radiator. But maybe it was easy for him with the car already being supercharged and bodykittet before.
The inside of the trunk is NOT the only way to open the rear seats hatch, you can actually pop the plastic clips around the nubs that pop upwards when you unlock the rear seats and pull those nubs up yourself and then pull the seat down, then put the clips back on
You can also turn off all traction and stability control in almost any car by holding the traction button for a few seconds. You just hold it until the traction and stability control lights on your dash come on and everything is off until you hit the button again to turn it all on.
I found that my 2017 86 has hill start assist where it will hold the break for you while you are in a hill for manual transmissions. it tells you how to do it in the owners manual. it's kind of like a cheat code. took me 3 tries to get it. totally worth it!
OMG i been killing my brain trying to figure out why its not showing which gear i m in anymore ..been trying to figure out how to have it back on...thank you man
There's a secret compartment that can only be unlocked if six other hidden buttons are opened in a specific order. If done in the correct manner, within a specific time frame, the button pops up. This button is red and has written on it "powa" and will give the BRZ (not on the FRS) an additional 100 horsepower for 100 milliseconds exactly!
the pedal dance is a little different in the Fr-s. It's: 1. pull the handbrake three times. Keep it up on the last one. 2. Push the brake three times. Keep it pushed on the last one. 3. repeat step 1. 4. Push the brake two more times. source: I own a 2013 Fr-s, and hoon daily
You can plug the sound tube going into the passenger compartment. It is just above the carpet line under the glove box. The cigarette lighter plastic cap will work. If you have an cold air kit it sounds insane with the sound tube plugged. It make the BRZ sound like an RSX-s
Man I thought my gear shift indicator was broken. I blamed the car dealer and their service team all this time!! :D Can't believe it was hidden in the menu!!! and that second 12v socket is golden. Cheers from AUS.
theres a fuse in the fusebox which will also 100% deactivate traction control. i find it less hassle to just pull that out rather than worry about the konami code stuff
4:32 it helped me on toyota prius. It always annoyed me when got in to the car with keyless entry I had to push unlock button to open other doors. Thank you so much for your video.
Ok if you have impreza sport change plugs at 50 thousand miles.never use transmission as a break.they are $4000.00 for a new transmission.oil change every 6000
Here's a weird one about the BRZ, there is a little hole high on the passenger's footwell that directs more engine sound into the car. You can also plug it with the same 12v power plug cover if you want to reduce noise. I've tried it and it doesn't really make a difference but hey, it's there.
These instructions are in a few places, but if you've not looked or read the manual, you may not know. This only applies to models with the alarm (Limited). Activating/deactivating the alarm system steps 1. Check that both side doors and the trunk lid are closed 2. Turn the push-button ignition switch to "ON" mode. 3. Open the driver's door while pressing and holding (unlock icon) on the power door lock switch and continue to press (unlock icon) for approximately 10 seconds after the driver's door has opened. 4. The car will beep once for activated and twice for deactivated. The information panel in the cluster will say either "AL on" or "AL off"
To turn all your traction control off just press and hold the TRAC OFF switch until all the lights come on. You have to do it every time you start the car though....
you can open the rear seats from inside the car, I had to figure it out when i accidentally closed my trunk without the electronic switch plugged in that operates the lock and mechanism. All you have to do is lift up the pins that are located at the top of the seats on either end, and its easier to do if you pop off the plastic covers around them first.
You don't need to do the pedal dance to turn off traction completely...dunno why no one figured this out but if you press vsc sport and then hold the traction button till it beeps it will accomplish the same thing
There’s a way to open your trunk from inside. The little black plastic pieces under the rear window are removable and if you pull both little knobs up the back seats open. And if you hold the traction control button for more than 5 seconds it will lock traction control off.
If you don't have the electronic rearview mirror, there's a spare power port in the overhead light that you can power a dashcam from. A subaru part (plug with wire) can be plugged into it (about $10) that makes it very easy just to slide the bare wires from the dashcam into.
Fun fact: you can access the trunk from inside the car. Ie - you can fold down the rear seats without pulling the straps in the trunk. You need to pop off the plastic covers next to where the seat latches in.
When your car is off on the Scion FR-S hold the power button on your stereo and you can actually change your speaker layout to match your car specifically. The factory default setting is for the Scion TC. Which makes your speakers sound like crap. So make sure you change that to get better sounding music.
You can access the trunk from inside the car by taking out the plastic housing on top of the rear seat and pulling the rod inside up for FRS. I found that out when I locked my keys in the trunk with the trunk safe mode on
there is a hidden airbag inside your steering wheel
Zhangy 😂
You have to hit it really hard to get it primed ;)
lolol
faisal3398 yeah but like to make sure it goes off, just drive into the back of a truck as fast as you can :D
Unco Casey which is like 20mph have u seen how embarrassingly slow those cars are
that traction control method looks like a damn cheat code
bimbo swagginz I couldn't get the traction control to turn off
Marr Gon YES!
@Marr Gon just hold the traction button for like 10 seconds or until it turns off thats how mine works
SKUUURT would it be the same thing? And also does it turn itself back on with the e brake brake method same as it would with the button method
yes it will be, it turns off ALL traction. And i have never herd of the e brake method i think its a joke.
*If you open your hood and drive 30mph it will open even further!*
wtf xDDD
Yeah just broke
thx for the hack, i tried it out and i can now proudly say i have a permalifted hood 10/10 great hack would try with my supra
omg that reversed name tho ;]
I will have to try this. THANKS
My dealer didn't tell me the car eventually runs out of gas! Had to find that out all by myself.
Lmao
wtf, this japanese cars are a joke
Send it back for a new one
Omg my dealer told me to put REGULAR GAS IN A GT86 I ALMOST SHAT MYSELF
Hahaha

This is in the manual
I think the best hidden feature is the owner's manual.
Next time, take the five extra minutes to warm your car up so you can show that the steps work. Also, put an SD card in and show it. A little extra prep would have gone a long way.
noted, thanks !
i 2nd this
Lol that's what I was just thinking 😂🤔
Couldn't agree more appreciate the video but it could have been better
Michael Morrone He dildnt warm itbup because it is a load if bullshit and that traction control doesnt work
You can reduce cabin noise by taking cover grommet off of the cigarette lighter behind the glove box and moving it to cover the tube just below the glove box. The tube was put there to help you hear the engine, but if you're like me and you want to hear the radio instead this helps.

Nice to see that Subaru brought back the second hood prop location. The 1st gen Impreza had it and it was awesome.
Don't they all have them? I had a 1997 legacy GT-B wagon, and now have a 2006 3.0L H6 Outback, both of which can do that?
The second gen Impreza and Forester definitely don't have it. I'm wrapping a bungee strap around my garage rafters and hooking one end to my hood latch to get the same effect now :(
My 1983 Brumby and 1998 Forester have this bonnet feature
My 2009 STI and the wife's 2011 Impreza have them.
Guessing its probably a 'service' position as per most cars from the mid 90s lol
Dude the door lock thing was killing me and couldn't find it in manual. Ran out and did it on my FRS and worked like a charm 😁👍🏼
Removing all of traction control seams like putting in a cheat code on your controller. It seems so weird.
Or a fatality in mortal kombat
nah, drive a car that doesn't need an ecu to run. then you'll know what real cheating is
The seat head rests can be reversed to allow the driver to wear a helmet on track days
Forklifts have similar ways of clearing fault codes and lights. Quite common in some newer ones.
Up up down down left right left right select start.
FINISH HIM!!!
Did you know if you fold the seat down you can plow a chick inside
😏
Clav3l Gaming 04+ grand prix can almost fit a full size mattress if you fold both sides of the back seat down 😁. Perfect for that same thing trust me
Clav3l Gaming I'm 6'1, there's no 'plowing' going on in any of today's cars for me except maybe a Ford Flex. On the other hand, if you're not dating a cow, you CAN check her right angle bend over the deck lid or just lie her lengthwise on the hood.
Same here. But my old outback with the back seat folded down made for one steamy romp.
Let's keep this diverse, you can also plow a man too just for the sake of diversity
I ride a bike and i'm watching this

@ Mark Hakanson Yeah, but the door handle feature is a lot more convenient, because you don't have to dig out your fob to open the door.

xTheNameisEthan No, '89 was the first year
The "pedal dance" is not really necessary.
Excellent tips, several I haven't read or heard about before. Thank you.
Yeah, I'd never seen anyone explain how to unlock both doors from the driver's side.
Kevin F also couldn't get this to work, the car just went into panic mode
Marr Gon do you have an FRS or a BRZ?
the door has to be open when you do it
Freddie Waterman that's if he has an FRS
My dealer never told me that you can play music through your stereo. Another good detail
Heck yeah man, good stuff! Keep doing you 🤙🏻
Most of these were useful as a new manual driver.
Cheat codes for cars 😂
I thought my remote and trunk release button were not working while i tried to open my trunk and was using my keys to open for a while. I can no thanks to this vid. Thank you. Very useful
Or you just read the OWNERS MANUAL!!!
I put a 1995 5 speed from an outback on a 2004 forester. Subarus are cool.
Just got my 86 a month ago. Your video was really awesome, in my opinion, so thanks ☺
For the traction control one, instead of doing the pedal trick you can just hold the traction off button (driver side) for about 10 seconds when the car is running and all traction will go off. I've been doing it this way since I got my BRZ!
Anthony would it work good for track days?
The door unlock was gold...worked on our Toyotas which we have hated the function of for 10 years...thanks lol.
I sell Subaru and didn't know a couple of these things...thanx
OH and the keyless entry on your remote, just hit it twice quickly when you go to unlock your doors. When you do the double click of the button it unlocks the driver's door and then the passenger's door. This way you can choose to either open just the driver's door or both with a quick button press. The main reason it is defaulted that way is to help prevent an intruder from jumping into the car with you and trying to car jack you. At least that is the main reason most car manufactures have that as an added security feature.
A hidden feature is that you can put a turbo on it
Actually i heard its really hard to do because of the small space, and it was not designed to have them installed...
Nope. Usually the traction control is still on, but only at about 10-25%
What I usually do is just buy a car built before 2008 :P
wow, i thought it was over! I can drift and no recovery action happens (gt86 eu spec)
I found that my 2017 86 has hill start assist where it will hold the break for you while you are in a hill for manual transmissions. it tells you how to do it in the owners manual. it's kind of like a cheat code. took me 3 tries to get it. totally worth it!
So how do you turn the traction control back on?
Ninja Hacking/Glitching power cycle
Just turn the car off and on again
I just got my brz 2 days ago and being able to unlock both doors is awesome 👌
Idk why I'm watching this but I own a 2010 Toyota Prius lol
Alexander Tony Issa joke lol
i heard a rumor that the pedal dance works on a prius too...
oh god, install a hydro on a prius and turn of the tc XD
I use to own a 2018 Prius and now have a 2019 Corolla SE but wished I had an FRS or BRZ back in 2013
ARaw chase your dreams big girl
OMG i been killing my brain trying to figure out why its not showing which gear i m in anymore ..been trying to figure out how to have it back on...thank you man
Watching this and i own a 1998 ford taurus
I own a 98 Honda accord supercharged and I'm learning fun facts about the brz 😂 honestly love watching ur vids
3. repeat step 1. 4. Push the brake two more times.
source: I own a 2013 Fr-s, and hoon daily
but how do you turn traction back on?
Behind the dash right above the glove box there's a secret airtight compartment , perfect for hiding your paraphernalia.
You can plug the sound tube going into the passenger compartment. It is just above the carpet line under the glove box. The cigarette lighter plastic cap will work. If you have an cold air kit it sounds insane with the sound tube plugged. It make the BRZ sound like an RSX-s
remove it
Well, would u look at that! There's a hidden gun under my seat...
Man I thought my gear shift indicator was broken. I blamed the car dealer and their service team all this time!! :D Can't believe it was hidden in the menu!!! and that second 12v socket is golden. Cheers from AUS.
I own a motorcycle........why am I watching this? xD
theres a fuse in the fusebox which will also 100% deactivate traction control. i find it less hassle to just pull that out rather than worry about the konami code stuff
now i can put my hentai on my start screen, thanks
Crown 👑 royal bag placement was fabulous!
I drive an Audi S3 sedan but this is interesting
4:32 it helped me on toyota prius. It always annoyed me when got in to the car with keyless entry I had to push unlock button to open other doors. Thank you so much for your video.
There's a hidden bomb inside your steering wheel
To unleash it, all you have to do is drive into a wall a 60mph.
Ok if you have impreza sport change plugs at 50 thousand miles.never use transmission as a break.they are $4000.00 for a new transmission.oil change every 6000
Thanks for doing this video. I've just purchased a GT86 and these tips and tricks are brilliant. keep up the great content!
Im getting one in 6 years
5 years
4 years
3 years
Here's a weird one about the BRZ, there is a little hole high on the passenger's footwell that directs more engine sound into the car. You can also plug it with the same 12v power plug cover if you want to reduce noise. I've tried it and it doesn't really make a difference but hey, it's there.
Interesting video, but damn you talk fast
this video is meh
*meth
you are meh
i like how your smile only kicks in after, like, a second in the beginning.
next time do demonstrations okay thanks
These instructions are in a few places, but if you've not looked or read the manual, you may not know. This only applies to models with the alarm (Limited).
Activating/deactivating the alarm system steps
1. Check that both side doors and the trunk lid are closed
The information panel in the cluster will say either "AL on" or "AL off"
I did nooooot notice my 2nd cigarette lighter!! Can't wait to try these
To turn all your traction control off just press and hold the TRAC OFF switch until all the lights come on.
Does not work on certain years.
And how to turn traction control back on?!
Awesome video man. I've watched millions of vids and didn't know most of the stuff here!
If you don't have the electronic rearview mirror, there's a spare power port in the overhead light that you can power a dashcam from. A subaru part (plug with wire) can be plugged into it (about $10) that makes it very easy just to slide the bare wires from the dashcam into.
+jb602 definitely going to try this out, thanks !
NP. This is the part number you need: H501SAJ010. Look it up on the forums for a how-to. Might be BRZ only, not sure.
That half second at the start before you did your intro was gold
