I figured out (with my tv, not sure if this works on all the tvs but give it a try for your tv) turn on a video, any video or live tv will work, hit the settings button * > picture settings > customize picture mode > fine tune picture > and turn your backlight to 25%... I've tested this for over a month and haven't had my screen turn black since. I watched a few electricians talk about his problem and all of them have said its a lack of power to the back-lit LEDS. I tried this and it worked like a charm. Hopefully it helps with all the the other ONN roku smart tvs out there, good luck! 😁

Thank you so much for the fix!! Bought my Westinghouse 75" ROKU TV a little over 2 months ago and woke up to the right side of screen showing a black shadow. Thought I was going to need a new TV since the Westinghouse 1 yr warranty requires you to box the TV up (preferably in the original box it came in) and send back to them at your expense for warranty repair.
Fix #1 worked for me but after it cycled through, I did have to turn it off and then turn back on. But I'm back up and running....thanks again!!

Thanks for sharing this! My issue was fixed by doing the first solution. My menu screens were working and audio too, but starting any video (any app) would be a black screen. Remote button press sequence fixed it -- glad I didn't need to hard reset, which is what Roku Support page suggested (and not this??).

Update: Wow! It actually worked!!! This is awesome. 💯💯💯You went straight to the point and made it clear twice, and it WORKED FOR MY INSIGNIA ROKU THAT WAS FLICKERING FROM LIGHT TO A DARKER SCREEN MAKING IT HARD TO SEE PROGRAM CLEARLY. I CHANGED PICTURE SETTINGS SEVERAL TIMES and nothing worked until this video. THANKS 4 TAKIBG TGE TIME TO POST AN EXCELLENT VIDEO THAT WORKED. NO NONSENSE TALKING BUT A REAL SOLUTION . I subscribe based on this alone
Ok, did the button pushes and thought it didn't work yet it took a few seconds for it to shut off. I hope this takes care of it going light then turning dark with the picture screen. But not sure yet

    Commenting for future ppl!
Thank goodness I don’t need to buy a new TV. The bottom HALF of my tv was black!
I have a 50” ONN Roku TV that is 2 years old. I was playing my PS5 when it crashed on me.
I tried all the tricks all night. Nothing. Woke up the next day and still had the issue.
What I did to actually make this method work for me:
    1) Unplug all HDMI devices from the TV
    2) Turn brightness to Darker (the last option. I saw that ppl say to do normal but that didn’t work so I tried the lowest setting)
    3) Do the remote reset
    4) un plug and replug in the tv again.
    5) repeat (I did this 3 times before my tv fixed itself)
    Thank you guys!!

you’re a life saver man. my screen wasn’t technically black nor flicker but the screen looked very weird every time i went on my ps5 or tried watching tv. it was like a dark ash color it would still play evening & i’d be able to see the screen but it was just a weird color. i did this method & it worked!!!!!😊

Man, you are my hero. I was only able to use my TV in the movie setting. I used the first trick while on my PS4, listening to tour video and everything was happening as you were saying it. You’re awesome!

This happened to me today. Only movie mode worked. All the other picture modes were extremely dark, to the point one could barely see what was happening on the screen. I went to settings and did a factory reset and it fixed it. I only use movie mode anyways, but I still didn't like the fact that the other modes seemed broken and I just got the tv.

This didn't work for my JVC 70" RoKu. I can see it doing what you said because the red light powers down, flickers and then back on so I know it's performing the reset but it stays black with a mili-second flash of roku and never leaves the black screen. I have tried it like 6x plus did the unplug reset as well. I've had it for 2 years. Was so excited hoping it would fix ours but maybe we have bigger problems or backlight issues. Thanks for the info! So glad it worked for others!

Thanks for the video! I had some success with unplugging power in the past. The picture would always come back, but it might be immediately or 20 minutes after turning my TLC tv. Your remote trick worked right away! This might be a reliable way to get the picture back the next time it happens.

    • @TeiwazTV

I figured out (with my tv, not sure if this works on all the tvs but give it a try for your tv) turn on a video, any video or live tv will work, hit the settings button * > picture settings > customize picture mode > fine tune picture > and turn your backlight to 25%... I've tested this for over a month and haven't had my screen turn black since. I watched a few electricians talk about his problem and all of them have said its a lack of power to the back-lit LEDS. I tried this and it worked like a charm. Hopefully it helps with all the the other ONN roku smart tvs out there, good luck! 😁
