My TCL picture died last night and was troubleshooting. Only to find the same remote reset and nothing i could do in my situation. Wow, this was incredibly informative and explained very well. From the simpler things to check to the more complicated. You are very good at what you do. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video!!! I was able to diagnose and order a power board for my 2-year old TCL, which was showing a black screen, but I could hear sound and see a faint picture when putting a light to the screen. After a very easy installation of the power board, my TV now works, and I'm so glad to be able to fix it myself and not have to get a new TV / contribute to e-waste.
@@katherinestevenson8848 I took the back panel off of the TV, unclipped the ribbon cables (mine had two attached from the main board/t-con to the power board), unscrewed the power board, put the new one in and screwed it in and then reattached the two cables. It was extremely easy - I don't have any prior experience installing any electronic components.
@shaquellanewby7230 A website called ShopJimmy. I searched by the model number of the TV. There were more than one that came up, but they looked different, so I visually verified that I was purchasing the right one by comparing it to the one in my TV.
So yup, backlight failure got me too. Dnag. Well, ti lasted me abut 8 years so I really can't complain. On to a new one. Thanks for the great troubleshoot and explanation video.
Thank you so much, i have a roku tcl 55", and there was no picture but the backlight was still on, the warranty was expired so i cracked the back panel open and messed with the t-con cables prior to the video and got the same result you talked about, on this tv the main board and t-con are combined so ill look into buying a new one. 👍
I have a 2021 TCL and backlight just stopped working. Following these steps I can’t figure it out as mine does not have a Tcon board and when I unplug the connector from power board to main board it won’t allow me to turn the tv on to check if the back lights will come on 😢. When it’s all plugged in and I first turn it on the backlights instantly flash on for a split second but nothing more after than. Really hate to replace with it not even being 3 years old yet. HELP ME!
I have a 43” TCL TV and I was having the same problem. However, I was able to get my Tv working again by unplugging the connector with the red and black wires. I plugged the power back in and then reconnected the red/black connector. This seemed to reset something and it started working.
When i plug in my TCL the screen barely flashes up for a split second them goes back out, few seconds later flashes on & off again then nothing but sound.
My menus work and I just watched a video but when I play a video from its apps (Disney, hbo, prime) the video is black with no sound. Menus and overlays all work as expected. WTH
before I open everything up I know TCL has a pretty good status bar that tells you everything you need to know. So when I power off the TV the status bar is dimly lit rather than full lit. When I power it on the status bar is off. There is no picture, even with the light shine test. There is sound. If I do A hard reset then plug in the tv after the capacitors have drained, the power bar will be bright for about one second. If I power on the tv during that second the screen will turn on, but then imediately turn off again. It works exactly the same if I try the reset again. Plug in, power bar full bright, turn on, picture for half a second then off. That means back lights work right? but again power bar will go to half lit when tv is off. It will only send signal to the backlights if I do a hard reset. Otherwise the status bar will only go half dim and off when tv is on, but no picture. Can you help me with an educated guess of what it could probably be before I open everything. I was thinking capacitors on power board?
I have a TCL 65R615 that has audio but just the faint LED glow. I've replaced the LED driver board with same behavior. I followed the steps here disconnecting one component at a time and the faint glow shows up in every scenario (except) when I disconnected the main board from the power board and then the TV would not power on at all. I tried flashlight test but can't see any picture... Just the faint glow of light. I have no issue replacing any board if someone can advise, but I'll throw in the towel if it turns out it the LED strips that need replacement.

I have the same model I think. 43 inch. 2022 model. Just stopped working today. It flashes light for a second when first turning on then goes black. Tried factory reset. Power cycle. Ugh. Kinda liked this TV
Thank you for this video. After I tried your suggestion of reconnecting all the wires inside the problem an old Samsung had only gotten worse. I don't blame you, but reconnecting all the wires inside does not always help fixing the issue, it can also make it worse. I did see a connector where some arching must have occurred on high voltage pins, I think for the backlight. I might try to solder the wires to the pins directly if I feel like it and if that is doable. Wish me luck.
@@techtests Thank you! Considering the age of the TV and the severity of the issues it has I have decided to not spend too much time on it. I will probably let the TV get recycled soon.
@@techtests I have fixed the television! At least, for a while. I took five wires, two of which had signs of arching, out of the nylon casing and connected them almost one by one, and then hot glued them onto the board. I tried to make sure that the wire was connected as good as possible and then solidified the connection with the glue. After five wires I just dabbed the whole blob in more blob and hoped that the connections were solid enough. Hello ! I replayed a few times this video might as well ask. I have sound on my tv. I tried the flaslight test but I cannot see any image. When TV is on I can see a "glow" and if I press left or right in the controller I can see the apps moving very very faintly but no image whatsoever its just the glow from the background lights that do the motion and I can see it. Following from your video this means I got a T-Con board damaged? cause if I had backlight failure screen would be plain black or if main board is damage I shouldn't get audio correct? My though is that I have a bad t-board but just wanted to confirm here first before getting one from ebay. Much appreciated !
I would think that it's most likely the T-Con, but it could still be the main board or the connection between the two. I would open the TV up and try cleaning and reseating all the cables first, before ordering anything.
@@techtests that is true, first timer on this kind of things but regardless shouldn’t be too difficult. Thank you so much for the input! Will provide updates later for future reference for everyone else.
Follow up on my issue: TV full opened. Led blacklight working. Sound is good. Still with glow and faint images. Main board, power supply working properly. I disconnected the T-con from the main board and tv was still the same. I disconnected the T-con entirely and TV stays the same. Glowing image faint image in the back. Nothing changed. Time to get a t-con?
If I have both cables connected to tcon I see the backlight flicker at TV boot but never ultimately lights up. I did flashlight test and there is picture with no backlight. If I remove 1 of the 2 lvds cables from the panel it flickers 2x at boot on 1 half of the screen (opposite of the side of the plugged in lvds cable) and if I swap which lvds cable is plugged in the 2x flicker happens in the other half of the screen... I have sound and I'm guessing the tcon is the issue?? Great video btw!
It's difficult to say for sure, but if you do have a picture with the flashlight test, then I would say the T-Con is ok, and it's most likely a failing connection/bulb in the backlights. I would test the backlight strips before replacing anything. You can use a couple of batteries and a pieces of wire to make a circuit if you don't have a multimeter and check each LED individually, and check the connections between them.
