  • These buildings and what's left of the dock are the only things left from a bygone era. The fishing industry was huge back in the day and employed so many people, from the fishermen, skippers, fillteters, factory workers, office staff etc etc. The long gone small post office at one time was the busiest P.O. in the world, with tick-a tapes, telegrams going all over the world to fish merchants.
In the early days of steam trawlers, coal was brought through by train from West Yorkshire mines. Both the coalmines and the railways have also gone.
There was talk of making the Lord Line building into a hotel or flats, but to be realistic, it's a bit out on a limb and surrounded by industry. It would be nice to preserve these buildings before they deteriorate any more than they have, just to remind people what a great industry and community, we once had in Hull.
