The day before took the internet by storm when it was first revealed in 2021. Promising jawdropping graphics with The Last of Us and The Division gameplay in the online open world, the game quickly became the most wishlisted title on Steam. Fast forward to 2023, the developer struggles to release the game and seemingly deliver on promises, as the recently revealed gameplay trailer doesn't exactly match what was shown two years ago. Their Investor is multi-millions dollar companies so they could get I trouble for scamming that companies and damage their reputation. So I think the graphic looks deferent because of the weather and lighting in first video compare to the second video or maybe they have a problems transitioning the gam from Unreal 4 to 5.

the old footage was obviously pre rendered and made to fool people by making them believe it was real gameplay, it never existed as a game and was more of a proof of concept than anything else.

Graphical downgrades have always been around, but the severe downgrades from promotional footage to retail release has been endemic for a full decade. Watch Dogs was the most notorious example and now it's getting crazier every year.

To me this game always looked like an asset flip of The Division 2. The idea of "The Division 2 but with zombies" was interesting until I found out that it was another one of those PvPvE Twitch-bait games.

When they market, The Day Before, as an Open World, Zombie Survival, MMO. Every single MMO player and Dev KNEW, off the rip, the announcement trailer was fake as fuk. Ain't NO MMO look that good. IDGAF if the game runs on unreal 5, no MMO this generation will look THAT good. Especially coming from a developer that does mobile games. Now the latest trailer? That looks about right as far as visual graphics for an MMO. And I would personally believe the game will look similar to the latest trailer. With a few minimal texture improvements.
People saying, that the 2021 trailer is pre-rendered really have no idea about what they're talking. In few instances you see dips in FPS, which suggests, that it was indeed true gameplay. If they pre-rendered it, then it would have solid 60FPS all the time. My point is, people are clowning on developers waaaay too much. Like, we could really get a solid game, but now because of all this negative attention, talented developers may drop out from the studio.
Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it

Graphical downgrades happen because while the artists genuinely want to build the most beautiful environments and character models. But they always need to get slapped down by the bean counters who know that the number of potential customers with a 4090 is less than 1% while the most common GPU is instead a 1650.

I dont know if the obvious graphics downgrade is evidence of this game being a scam since we have seen AAA titles do this as well but all of the other drama associated with this game and its development team is definitely enough to consider it.

Unless the apocalypse was just recent I don’t think there will be power to power up the billboards, Christmas tree lights, stores, and street lights. But I think the recent gameplay did it right with minimal lighting.

"Gamers" as an online community, those of you who argue "there is no such thing as a toxic gamer, but only bad games," like, get real. Go outside, seriously. Nobody, not even your parents, are responsible for your ability, or lack-there-of, to enjoy a product which is created 100% for your enjoyment. If you are to waste your time, along with the developers' time, by complaining about an unreleased product, well, then you should expect a well-deserved bad product, and you should find a new hobby. Because if your well-being as a person is contingient upon how well this game pleases you on release, then I feel incredibly sorry for you. By the vast majority of comments I have read concerning this game, NONE of you deserve to ever have a game made for you, not for the rest of your lives. Make a better product yourselves if you think its possible. Surely, it is. Hell, the product isn't even out yet, so the sky is the limit, as you would only be competing against yourself and your own expecations. They showed 2 different locations with different lighting. What made them not show off a gameplay with rich lighting and colours in the last gameplay? The dark can hide many visual flaws. The game looks decent in the recent trailer, idk why they first showed off a lvl of quality they will never match in final release. the final product you all play is a result of stripping back as much as possible to make it as functional and smooth as possible. more often than not, it's aesthetic features such as certain shaders which make games harder to play (especially online).
this is different though, i've said many times, the gameplay which was revealed as part of the day before was a vertical slice. This is when you build a separate area from the game, overhaul with graphical and textural qualities to achieve as close-to-real possible, you can often tell too by how cluttered or 'detailed' the scene is. think to yourself, will every part of the map be like this? no, it won't and it won't be in the game.
i'm not shitting on vertical slicing btw, 90% of companies do it for the reveal. it's designed to fit in as much as you can show off, so you shouldn't base your expectations on this.

But the final game still looks good and holds up to this day.

The only thing downgraded in The Division was the graphics, which still looks pretty good to this day.
The gameplay is still fun as hell.

There was no downgrade in the Watch_Dogs, as some people say about it. And Division is a different build of the game that has nothing in common with that version of the game at E3 2013, so no one was deceived. It’s a if the developers said that the 2013 game is what came out now. But the fact is that before the game was released, the developers announced the development of a different version of the game. Or no one remembers how the developers announced that they were going to cut the number of cutscenes, so it was then that the announced build of the game in 2013 was essentially put on the shelf, but I am apparently one of those who remembers this, unlike some players. So if you liked that Division game from E3 2013, why the hell didn’t you stand up for this concept and protect the version of the game from being remade that was shown at E3 2013.

I couldn't care less for slight graphics downgrades, all I want is the promised game mechanics and game play.
Companies will always make games for the most accessible market which typically means last gen looking games. They are fully capable of making really god damn beautiful games but are limited by wanting to reach the most markets.
This is why Sony doesn't really have this issue as much because they can make games mainly for the ps5 that look great, a downgraded version for the ps4, and maybe a pc port of the ps5 version without caring too much about the market

I mean the setting is completely different,not downgraded but different tone and atmosphere,the trailer is dark but the post-apocalyptic event took place like literally days after the incident while the retail looks like its after at least like 1 month also its much darker and with no talk as to not accidentally give away their position

The basic mechanics of the game have not changed, at least the police cars are more believable than they were at the release of the Division game. And, moreover, quite in the early access release of the game The Day Defore. It’s just that if they released it with such a trailer in 2021, it would contradict the concept of the narrative; this is a game about post-pandemic plot action, not distant but near post-pandemic action in the entire game. What was in the 2021 trailer was by the target audience most likely for the game when it comes out as a sequel. Simply put, that trailer 2021 is actually a trailer for the sequel and not the first part. So it's logical now.
I did notice the 2023 version had blood splatter on the floor that's an upgrade!!!! Ha ha

Id still buy it. It looks like what The Division SHOULD HAVE been. When the division first teased, it implyed the virus would play a MUCH bigger role just for the game to come out and have little to no importance at all.
The only area it really mattered was the "dArK ZoNe" and even then it was just a mechanic to make that particular game mode obnoxious. We weren't watching our masks, we weren't watching our infection rate, there was no real threat.
Days Gone was fun because it at least had both humans and infected to deal with. If this game is going to be a hybrid of days gone, the last of us, and the division.... SIGN ME UP.

is it just me or was the annocment trailer was in the division time square?
Most of the lighting is gone. Lights are expensive cause reflection, refraction, and shadows all take geometric calcs. The RTX card was supposed to handle all that. Don't look like they used any of it.
these guys should make animations instead of fake games
It went from:
"Damn, it looks almost as good as Division games!"
to:
"Look mom! I brought some assets on UE store!"
Of course I hope it's not a scam but changing graphics also happend with games like Watch Dogs and The Division.
