    I own more than 100 knives and many of them in the USD300+ range. The Code 4 (I have all 3 blade shapes here) is an excellent knife, especially at the price point. Great slicer, slim in the pocket and extremely sturdy, also because of the tri-ad lock. I would replace it directly with a new one if I should ever lose it, even though I have enough great alternatives. That's how much I like it.

    About reviewing older knives, I think it's a very good idea. It helps people new to knives, nobody wants to click on a 4-5 year old vid. Another thing is those older vids are often times not good, old info on prices and comparisons. I just went through this with the Benchmade mini griptilan, a ton of old vids but with no good info, couldn't find exact weight on the model I was interested in, couldn't find if the liners were skeletonized, can't find out if more than the steel was changed with the newest versions etc.

    I really appreciate a return to familiar, even iconic models bearing in mind changes in design, material and philosophy since their origin. Isn't amazing that good designs with purpose chosen materials still rise to the top years or even decades after their introduction. BTW, I just picked up one of the last Code 4 XHP Tantos last week. Not my favorite grind, but still a very practical user.

    A buddy and I swap out some of our EDC rotation so I got to borrow a tanto code 4 in xhp. It got a fair amount of pocket time and a disproportionate amount of work across a wide range of tasks. Most of the heavy tasks were done with gloves on (mechanic's gloves, yard work gloves, and leather winter gloves) due to me having it from December to April which I think is an ideal application for the folder. I have XXL sized hands so I really appreciated the generous handle and xhp is my favorite steel for edc folders.

    I love my Code 4. I grabbed one of the last of the XHP ones, but I have a Lawman in the S35 and it's performing just fine. CS does a great job with their HT no matter what steel they use..even their AUS8 performs better than most other makers AUS8. I admit it doesn't hold an edge as long as the XHP, but the difference isn't huge, and I strop after any real use anyway, so honestly, I haven't noticed the difference. I might buy the tanto version just because I don't have any tanto knives, and I kind of want to check one out. Thanks m8. You were spot on as usual.

    Much prefer the Endura. I've got four of them (none of which are VG10) and I never leave home without one. The Code 4 is nice in many ways but for a 'hard-use' product, I'd say the Recon 1 would be better because it's more 'hand filling' which is comfortable for extended hard use tasks. Also, if you need such insane lock strength then perhaps a fixed blade would be a better option. I almost never use my American Lawman these days due to it's bulk/weight.....

    • @frederickj.7702

      I'm a fan of the Endura as well, Paul, since picking up my V-Toku2 version last year. The fastest deployment characteristics of all of my eight lightweight backlock Spyderco models (the Stretch is the smoothest, though).
      I'm not so convinced by the blade shape of the new Endela's play on the same theme, just off the photo and video takes to date. Even as a bit of a gram counting nut, I certainly wasn't moved by the nominal 3.10 ounce vs. 3.27 ounce (V-Toku2 measured) carry weight savings.
      What is your take on the Endela, Paul?

    • @sputumtube
      @sputumtube 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@frederickj.7702 Like you I've only seen pictures and though some consider it to be a 'compromise' between the Delica and Endura it appears to me as though it's in 'no mans land'. Love your video, awesome comparison!!! I prefer folder with sintetic handle materials, because they aren't cold and slippery, and most of them got scratches pretty easily, like the sebenza. But the only thing I hate about this knife is the hollow grind, I hate hollows, most of them are a recent invention of the 1900. Wish that cold steel would do some of their best knives with flat grind, because their lock and prices are awesome

      Haha you sound like some of the characters in Pete's videos! "A grind invented in the early 1900s?? Far to new for me! I only use grinds from pre Victorian era as God intended..."

    • @zoroutdoor9
      @zoroutdoor9 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@13irishsailors sound like a non English guy. Hollow grind on knives is a recent invention. It was used in the past on swords, just to reduce weight. But every knives, axes, tools, used on woods were always convex or almost flat. Hollow grind, used from folders to machetes is a recent invention, every knife should have the best possible grind for it's own purpose. But most of the knives in the market are hollow and for that we have to thank the machine used for grinding on the factorys and the double stones. In fact it's possible to create a perfect hollow grind in a few seconds, without any particular type of skills. But instead it requires skills and lot of time and experience to do a good convex grind, all made by hand. Of course hollow grind keeps the price low, but it come with some disadvantages on the use. If you don't trust a non English guy, you can ask to Mike Stewart from bark river.

    i have one in xhp, the blade looks warped if you look closely, like there is more metal on one side, and it's has to be sharpened with different angles or the bevel will look like on the lawman in this video on one side.

    My short review of your review: Really well done, I found your descriptions and your arrangements of thought very well done.
    My take away phrase, post cut review, After cutting a rope 231 times and cutting the bottom out of a galvanized steel tub, the knife is about as sharp as the knives our family and friends carry every day of their lives.
    Thus by succinctly describing the difference between knife people and the rest of the world.
