Cold Steel Code 4 Review. Their most reasonable and maybe best every day carry?

  • Cold Steel makes a lot of ridiculous knives, but they also make some nice stuff like the Code 4 that anyone can carry and enjoy. This is a lightweight knife with aluminum scales, and a tough Tri-Ad lock mechanism. In this video I test lock strength unscientifically by batoning, install a bottle opener on my stump, and wonder if God understands satire. If you like the sort of stuff I'm laying down here, you can support my video making and every day carry gear habits by buying the Code 4 through Amazon.

Fun video, thanks. I bought the Code 4 this week. First thing that struck me was the slickness of the scales - very slick - and how thin it is. I bought the serrated version because Lynn Thompson says it is 3 times better at cutting through flesh - and who am I to argue. Ran my fingers along the blade like I do with all my straight blade knives, and sure enough, it cut the hell out of me. Guess Lynn is right.

Cold Steel is a company that has managed to win my reluctant respect despite their best efforts. Even though they do everything possible not to be taken seriously as a knife manufacturer, they do make some durable, high value folders.

I recently purchased the tanto version of the code 4 s35vn steel. The action is smooth, the blade is tight, with no play, and it slides in and out of pockets without abrading the fabric.
It has the slim profile of my all stainless spyderco endura, but has thicker blade stock. It’s a more refined version of the cold steel recon 1...
It’s thin, light weight, very capable, and doesn’t scream mall ninja.

Heheh I feel your pain - me spends two days filming (and three days editing) a 45 minute outdoor comedy vid - gets 2,500 views.
Then I spend about two hours total the next day doing a 10 minute steel test which gets more views, quicker. I’m an idiot.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

I learned my lesson with long form videos a while back where I did the one about drive ins. I spend way too much time editing and writing to make this channel a worthwhile endeavor. Beer videos are my way of generating content that's easier and quicker to make than a standard knife review. It's why I don't do light reviews any more really. Other than a few guys like you most people do not fully understand the commitment it takes to make a 15 minute video about an illumination device. Shit... I spent 45 minutes at my table this morning measuring 4 knives, and converting everything to metric.

      You're an undiscovered treasure, Pete.
Those of us who watch your channel know how invaluable your presence is in the knife community. I watch Shabazz, Dutch Bushcraft Knives, Virtuovice, Michael Christie and tons more, and your content is without question what I look forward to the most. Not only are you funny as fuck, but you review folders, fixed blades and multitools, and you're a proper steel nerd. Plus, you're relatable and come across as a genuinely sincere and good guy. That's rare, man.

Well I remember seeing one of the older vids where I a finger with a wrap, band aid, well maybe you were not all that advanced back them, Hahahaa..............................Hell, finger cuts are not that bad. I was fooling around with a CS Bushman folder, the stringy thing in the rear broke loose and I stabbed myself in the leg, blade went in about 1.5 inches. Scare thing is that it missed my left testicle by about .25 inch. I bled for about 2 days until the cut closed. I kept the knife and pull it occasionally to remind me about it.

I remember first seeing this in the store was surprised how thin and light it was. Also looked pretty good fit and finish than what I thought of cold steel. Beforehand my exposure was the spartan my friend hand and I thought it sort of look like junk.
So this was an entry knife into cold steel and actually xhp is quite good. They are downgrading switching to S35vn.
Eventually sold it because I felt the triad was overkill for smaller edc knives. It’s more suited for 4 max and rajah 2 etc.

Advance Knife Bro, when I first heard that you were doing a Cold Steel 4 review, I was like, “Did I just time warp back to 2014?” But then I watched it, and I was like, “Oh, this is ADVANCED and a tremendous addition to the literature on this knife.” When are you going to be more like your brother, Cutlery Lover, and start reviewing Zippos?

I moved with only 3-4 knives, the rest being packed away. Now I have about 12-15 more in the span of a month and a half.

No instaspam, fakebook or twatter for me, no way in hell. So you're SOL there bud. Sorry. I still watch PajamaboyTube against my better judgement simply because it's still mildly entertaining. And because you still post some good vids. Love the line "...constantly drenched in the blood of their victims." Don't hear that enough these days. And LMAO at the "...God understands satire, statement." Well said, Sir. And he most certainly does or you're all screwed. Cheers!

Advanced Knife Bro Hahaha, it is unless you wear the same jeans for 10 years! Then, you have to quit your regular job, patch up your jeans, and become a hobo clown. Hobo clowns with cool knives are so underrated.

It's a great knife ! Would like it to be a little more pointed but it's still great !
S30v is reinvented 440c ! My s30v has to be sharpened just ass munch ass my 440c !
I looked it up the s30v blank they load into the cnc machine is $20.00 no dicounts for volume knife co. buying or anything !
They aren't knife makers they are cnc machine loaders and unloaders assemblers and mailers ! To say reeves is a knife maker is like saying a framer or electrician is a carpenter that can build a house from the ground up !
Funny the cnc machine computer operator never gets a mention !

Broken Skull is better value than the Endura methinks. You don’t ‘need’ it tho. But for a slim edc that packs a lot of blade at low weight with great steel, it can’t be beat at the price.
Wack a snaggletooth on the Colossus. There’s a video there. Might even be 10:05 worth. I’m sure Rob from snaggletooth will send you a complementary one, given your standing in the Knife (and beer and flashlight) community.

I have the cts-xhp version clip point in a full serrated edge. I usually don't like serrations on anything and still don't, but it works and makes surprisingly effective cuts
