  • This is my take on the Cold Steel Recon 1. Overall a very tough knife and good for the money. There are pros and cons but overall its a great utility knife for under $100. Im sure I will be buying more Cold Steel products in the future, its a good value for the money. Thanks for watching and subscribe for more of my opinions and reviews.

Recon1 is my “go-to” knife whenever any of my friends ask what knife to get for self defense, edc, hard abuse, beater etc. This knife is an awesome all-rounder. Carried this as edc for 4.5yrs as a builder; plenty of abuse until I retired it and bought another one. With a collection of over 50+ pocket knives ranging from $15 - $2000+, I still highly recommend the Recon1 as my go-to-knife.

If anyone would know, you would be one. I work construction and use that thing at least once, twice a day. Nice knowing you don't have to worry about your fingers. I would Never use a liner lock on a job site.....

I remember as a teenager in Montana all my friends carried the BUCK 110. It was like $50.00 in the early 70's. I still have a 110 today. But i carry my RECON-1 every single day. I have all kinds of good pocket knives, but its that RECON-1 that i rely on. And will for the rest of my days

Just like you back in the early 70’s it was either Buck 110 or Puma Back-Packer both drool worthy for backpacking the Sierra.

The judgement that guy gets is so weird. He was doing things to knives to make sure they are far above any expected uses, what's wrong with that?.
I'm biased because I'm an old school martial artist so I'll always favor weapons made by martial artists, I'll admit that. It just seems people talk shit on a guy that they should be thanking for innovating and pushing the boundaries of what knives can be. Ungrateful bums, all of em.

Well done, sir! I usually don't write comments but had to with this excellent presentation.
Tuned in for the Triad Locking demo (just what I was looking for) and stayed for the seamless flowing almost visceral experience. Casual yet professional with a pleasing voice & tone. No "Ummms", starts & stops, "You Knows" or needless repetition to distract or interrupt flow. A proficient regular guy intelligently informing his peers on what works well, in his view.

So, this video is very interesting.
    It's April 2023 and on the US website it's 177$ (800ron)
I live in Romania and I was able to find one here on a Romanian website for 185$ (834 Ron). It's not a huge price difference but it is when people say that it's under 100$ in the US. I understand that the shipping would be crazy, but they don't ship here so why is it 177$.
Nevertheless, i will still buy it because everybody says it's a very good EDC, do it all, beat the hell out of it knife, for work and other stuff.

Great review. Love that you love the knife. Honestly though I’m a little disappointed. Ive purchased at least 10 of these Recon 1 knives, either for myself or as gifts. Recently, I bought two. One to replace the one I lost at the offroad park and the second as a gift. Upon unboxing, I noticed the texture on the handles were practically slick compared to the ones in the past. I called Cold Steel to inquire one the possibilities of me receiving 2 bad copies only to find out they have done a change to the grip texture about a year and a half ago. I called them less than a month ago. I’ve read long ago about people complaining about the rough texture and even the retention of the pocket clip but thought those were silly. Cold Steel took a perfect knife and dumbed it down. I’m baffled. SMH. There has to be a replacement or a rerelease or something. I’m kicking myself even more now for losing all of my other ones. Sorry just venting. Btw when they went to the Triad Lock, tjats when they dropped the liner.... however the G10 handles became thicker. I just really love this knife!
