I’ve just come back from a three month tour of Europe on a 2020 model of these, mostly Scandinavia where I was wild camping.
12,000 miles, two oil changes, one set of tyres changed. Totally faultless, started first time every time.
I’m 5’ 9” and being able to get my feet flat down makes all the difference. I rode mostly on the road with occasional unpaved and forest roads. The power is plenty for real world riding, fuel economy excellent and the lack of rider aids and gadgetry is a plus for me, less to go wrong.
This bike is so often overlooked in favour of the two wheel tank adventure bikes, but I’m at an age where I no longer buy bikes to impress other people and the Honda CB500x is an absolute gem. I’m already planning next years trip.
Thanks for the video, regards Warren 🇬🇧
Excellent real world testimonial to the great utility and versatility of this bike, Warren! Thanks for sharing. Best to you, and keep on riding!
Ohh i still ride a Honda CB500 ( 1998 ) and 500cc is just right for me, i dont need much more horsepower and i love the durability and milage on the 500cc 's. This is my dreambike for now!
I purchased a 2020 model in November 2023 liked it that much I brought a brand new one in January 2024. Great Bikes.
I’m 5’11” and find the 500X perfect for me. Anyone who wants a powerful bike will need to look elsewhere but anyone who wants a great comfortable economical bike that will be happy on just about any road, paved or not should try one. I have almost doubled my annual mileage since downsizing from an ST1500 to a 500X, power isn’t everything and the 500X allows you to really take advantage and enjoy the power it makes.
Well said, David.
6' 2" is a big gorilla 😂... Greetings from Malaysia
@@mystique_2k874 greetings to you as well across the sea!
I’m 5’11. Sold my 2018 old one but am gonna buy the new one since its such an upgrade
A brilliant all round motorcycle. This is the sixth motorcycle I’ve owned since getting my licence in 1973 and it is by the far the most versatile, comfortable, economical and super smooth of any motorcycle I’ve ever owned. I’ve actually had two of these - a 2015 model (on which I rode 20,000 km) and now the gorgeous red 2021 (having so far ridden 18,000 km). I’m 5’ 10” and while seated on the saddle I’m almost flat footed. 500 cc provides ample power. I’m heading off tomorrow morning with three mates for a one week, 2,500 km road trip through the West Australian Goldfields … much of it on unsealed dirt roads - and I know that purring along at around 110 km/hour I’ll be using an average of 3.1 litres/100 km (75 US mpg), my rear end will remain comfortable and I’ll be able to ride as comfortably on the unsealed roads as I will on black top - but not doing overly technical stuff - although it’s a Jack of all trades and a master of none, it comes real close in both categories 🦘.
Well said! Best to you and your mates on your epic ride!
One problem to your story. This is a new model for 2002 - or at least that is what the salesman told me.
with this 2021 version of 500x i went touring around Borneo mostly on coastal sides of East Malaysia, Brunei and Kalimantan, Indonesia. ZERO issues besides wear and tear parts. comfortable with all power u needed(needed, not excesses) at all rpm ranges plus great FC. only gripe is when installed Givi sideboxes, its top speed reduced from 18x kmh to 16x kmh for me weighted 80kg, but at those speeds its engine doesn't scream much due to low rpm nature. this is my one bike garage bike. if u can find even 2nd hand 1st model bike, its a no brainer.
Wow, great to hear about your travels! #RideLife !
I bought the new nx500(almost the same things of cb500x) as my first motorcycle two months ago and I'm so glad to use her as an everyday bike ! Greetings from Tuscany 🇮🇹
That’s fantastic! It’s a bike you’ll love for many years. Best to you, VS, and thanks for commenting from beautiful Tuscany!
Thanks! I'm convinced.
Glad to find this review,I'm a smaller guy similar to your physical profile the one that kept me from owning an adventure bike is it's size.your review changed my perspective about this class of motorcycles
Thanks for sharing, that’s great to hear!
My 21 has 25,000 klm with non-issues.
Did replace the seat with a Seat Concepts, great improvement
Drop a link to the seat you bought for it.
Great job enjoyed it
Thanks Paul!
Greetings,
As always another brilliant detailed video 🇺🇸🎉🍾🇺🇸
Would you provide me with the link to purchase the hard case!?
Thank you so much for assisting me, keep producing more videos.
The hard cases came on the bike, installed by Honda.
We appreciate you, Rosario!
I am a bit of a beginner and chose this cb500x. I bought it new and preferred it over the new nx500. I took it in black color, with some accessories like crash bar, hand guards and central stand. I am really happy about it and the power is just right, it is not intimidating and allow you to fully enjoy the bike.
Such a great motorcycle, and you won’t soon grow tired of it.
What are the sidebags and other assesories. Great video
Kind of limited accessories in the Honda catalogue, but apparently aftermarket companies offer lots of options for them.
I'm looking to buy my first bike ever and I'm thinking about getting an ADV. I've been looking hard at a KLR-S. I'd love to see a comparison video between the KLR and this bike.
We’ve not had an opportunity to ride and review the KLR-S, but it would be a good comparo, for sure.
More cylinders is always better , on road .
Hello, I would like to ask if these are the factory Honda side boxes that are on the motorcycle?
Yes they are.
Good sar bike
That box is nice where did u buy any site, pls
The bike was a loaner from Honda, and the hard cases come standard with the bike.
I just bought one of these. Doing my 600 mile oil change today. I really like this bike, I’m not an adventure rider yet. Most of my riding has been on a Goldwing. The cb500x is a little tall for me, I’m 5’6”. I would like to know what crash bars are these?
I think they are Honda OEM engine guards. Check with your Honda rep, see if they can procure a set for you.
They look like Givis
@@normandegeorge6526 unsure, we never saw a GIVI name or logo anywhere on them. They were Honda installs on the bike for us.
HONDA calls it a light bar, part number 08P72-MKP-J80ZA. I have one on my '22 X
I'm 6'3", and looking for a big enough beginner bike. Not a huge fan of adventure bikes myself, but mainly just because of the looks. I tried a cb500f, and it simply was too small for me. Think I'll get one of these! While not being my ideal bike, it would definitely serve me well for a couple of years until I can get a bigger standard bike!
At your height, have you considered the Yamaha Tenere 700? It may suit you very well.
Problem with riding the cb500x off road is the footpegs position! They are to far back so standing up your knees are past the tips of your feet. I have this model and absolutely love it but the footpegs are a real ball ache to sort out properly... ride safe dude.
Good observation, thanks for sharing.
Those side cases look good. Any chance to get the name if anyone recognises the brand?
They’re Honda OEMs, saw no other name on them. Resembled GIVI bags.
Can this bike be adjusted to suit a rider who's 1'86metre tall? I do not want to crouch when riding on dirt tracks.
The handlebars are adjustable, but I don’t think the footpegs are. No adjustment at the seat, but front and rear suspension both are adjustable.
Front suspension is un-adjustable
Have a look for bar risers, but I'm not sure if there's enough slack in the clutch cable or brake line
your high beams were on the entire time XD
Yes, in daytime riding, we always “ride high”, to be more visible. We only switch between high/low beams at night.
I dont see alot of people here practicing that, mostly on older bikes with halogens, but it's a good idea, as long as you don't do it at night.. @@roaddirttv
What is your height? How tall do you have to be to flat foot it?
Main wrist is Rob, at 5’8”.
He was able to comfortably flat foot with it.
If the exhaust wasn't below the engine i feel like this motorcycle would get a lot more respect as an actual adventure bike
It keeps the heat off the rider .
This one is a street bike made to look adventurous. I'd break one of those wheels where I'd ride it. You know it's still a sweet ride though. I think I'd have to have a DCT NC750X.
@crapcutter956 Sure it is.
The nc750 sucks , what a boring bike..pfft
@@leeinwis They make bikes like this because fortunately, not everyone is like you lee wuss!
I have the Honda CB500X and do like it, but put it down as 90% road and 10% off road. I has a KTM 390 Adventure and that was much better off road and as good on road. Would put the KTM 390 Adventure down much closer to a true Adventure bike close to a 60% on and 40 % off road, for adventure stile riding. The one I am hopping to get is the new Royal Enfield 450 Himalayan, looks like by far the best of the true adventure bikes. Great of road and great on road, think it is going to out perform bough the Honda and the KTM, by a long shot. Every video I see on the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, give it a hands up. I like to buy bikes that dealers are close, but the new Himalayan 450 just might be a exception to this. They are calling it the unicorn of bikes. And it looks great in black, and has many color options.
¿ is this bike better than the KTM 390
Unsure, haven’t had a chance to ride the 390 ADV yet.
@@roaddirttvthe ktm only has a 370cc engine
It depends on what you want to do. If you’re not too big and want to ride locally the 390 is fine but if you are a bit bigger or want to broaden your horizons the 500X offers so much more.
@@davidmatthews3093 agreed.
KTM 390 is better at off-roading than CB500x
in 720p ...... ;(
We render all of our videos in 1080p.
This is hOnda not hUnda 🙂
??
That bike is grossly and needlessly overly large. I'm six foot, but am getting really tired of these monstrosities. A 400 to 500 would be my next bike but only if it were under about 400 pounds. Even my KLR 650 would be much improved as far as what I'd like if it were to lose 60 pounds and two inches of seat height. Powerful bikes are boring.
bro what on earth are you on about? It's neither large nor powerful.
man you got nothing right… Wtf??? This bio is one of the lightest advs out there and most narrow.
@@andycb500x It's a large pig that weighs just under 450 pounds. take fifty pounds off and it would be an ok bike. I'm six feet tall and 200 pounds. My wife is 5' 7" and she would not ride this thing because it is "huge" and heavy for what could have been an accessible bike. Neither will she ride my KLR for the same reasons. So I'm going to go with a Royal Enfield - they look better besides.
He's right, it's heavy for any 500 , Hondas own transalp is only 20lbs more and it's a 750. @@andycb500x
