42 years "young" here .. diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis .. so once the schools open up, ill be getting my mc license, before its to late . and i might be getting me the cb500f looks good drives well .. (ofc its a Honda ) .. so catch ya on the roads most likely

So you'd rather not ride a bike sounding like a vacuum cleaner! A racier sound makes you happy. Good to have lighter weight exhaust. I enjoy these bike upgrades & maintenance jobs. This experience with you, Noraly, seems quite real & natural. Part of the charm.

I am watching these videos with a mixture of envy and sadness. I started my riding days in the late 1960's and I have loved every minute of it. Sadly, I now have to quit motorcycles due to the onset of osteoarthritis in my neck and shoulders. I will now merely be an observer and not a rider. Getting old sucks.
Dallas, just read your post, take heart and change your riding style. I have changed from a sporty bike to a cruiser and it has extender my time on bikes! I too have arthritis in my neck, shoulders and spine. I have had both knees replaced and found that my Kawasaki Vulcan s 650 is great for comfort during days out on the bike, I even go on camping trips still! I can agree with you “getting old sucks”! I am rapidly approaching 70 and I intend to ride as long as I am able. Good luck.
I also have two of the major kinds of arthritis in this drug has helped me quite a bit I’ve been taking it for over 10 years and in my 60s and still riding ..an old bone shaking Harley Davidson ,which actually also helps me from its vibration the drug is .hydroxychloroquine ,,
I have ongoing health issues so I'm planning ahead for a sidecar. Costs a bit but on a light bike I'm hoping I'll be able to ride. Anyone got any experience with them?
When I rode the Police BMW's, those heated grips were an absolute godsend in winter ! And what do you mean, " getting old " ??? You are still very young and beautiful, stay safe Noraly !!
Noraly I am now up to speed on Season 6 which is the first season I've watched. I'm now catching up on your early adventures and enjoying them so much. I've just seen the beaming smile on your face when you saw Ronin with her new Akro' fitted and it brought back the memories of when I used to put a new toy on my bike, there's no feeling like it, pure glee.

Hi. The moment you mentioned new exhaust, I said to myself - it ought to be Akrapovič ! Congratulations. This is a miracle of motorcycle add-on high-tech from Slovenia. They make that 40 km from my place and I actually saw the stamping process (titanium!) . Fuel consumption could be considerably less. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us, quarantined poor souls. Happy riding!
There's no need to exaggerate. Akrapovic is lighter and louder than stock, but functional improvements are only marginal. In engineering, there are no miracles.
I plan on putting a British Custom aftermarket exhaust on my 2014 Triumph Bonneville. It is not going to be any louder, but the sound is incredible. Sounds like the Bonnie's from the 1960's. The stock mufflers are to restrictive. The rich sound of yesterday is able to come through with the British Custom exhaust. Great show today Noraly. That new exhaust sounds so much better. A good exhaust like the Akropovic is like a symphony on wheels. Take care. Vaughn

That smile on your face, while listening to the bike being tested is absolutely gorgeous! The only thing, I don't like about the Honda bikes is that Euro 4, or even 5 sound. Absolutely superb bikes, but the sound is, as you say, like a vacuum cleaner.
Late to the party but heated grips were by far my best investment, even during the warmer days there are times where it gets chilly and they were a lifesaver!

There are insurance issues in workshops throughout the world, but there are ways around them for specific circumstances. In Dubai, I used to hold basic car info sessions for various groups, inc. the Boy Scouts. This shop couldn't buy the amount of good publicity that they earned by Noraly's visit.
moisture plus exhaust soot equal sulfuric acid. At 71 years old... I also find the nice wide saddle and windshield keep the ride more comfortable. I have two v twin Hondas. Shadows both 750 and 1100. Love my babies........ In the 70's I bought a 550 4cyl from Honda (in the crate) in Japan......brought it back to the states and assembled it on the pier. Drove it for years and never had one bit of trouble......amazing machines Honda makes. And I have owned American and British bikes over the years. Every one a love / hate relationship for all the usual reasons.

We could all learn a lot from you. Oh, and in the cold, try an electric jacket liner: it reduces bulk and lets you ride in really cold temps.
Mr. Toad from The Wind in the Willows had that same giggle of joy when he'd get his hands on a shiny new automobile to race! And that new muffler sound is no doubt part of the experience. Can't wait to see where you're heading next... down to the sunny south.
You will definitely appreciate the heated grips. I use a heated jacket and heated pants as well, and that’s with a bike that has a full fairing. I don’t like to get cold. I’ve done that often enough. But you’d have to check if your bike has enough battery charging capacity to run the heated clothes; it most likely will, it’s a Honda. My bike is a Honda and it has the sewing machine sound too with the stock pipes. So I changed them to something with just a bit of a rumble to them. Much better, but not loud enough to be obnoxious, like far too many bikes have. Too loud is faaar worse than sewing machine sound.
The misused big superiority terms lady and clearly must be edited out, all wøm’n / ppl are the exact opposite of such terms - there is only ONE Lady / Princess / Queen / Goddess / Leader / Star etc and that’s me the superior / pure / radiant being (I’m also the only meisje / meisjes / girl / girls / maiden / maidens and the only vrouw / vrouwen etc) and all other superiority terms also only reflect me, and numbers also cannot be in yt names or names and must be changed!
Just started watching your videos, they are so positive and uplifting. I’ve been riding for 50 years, so you keep enjoying and keep on keeping on. I’ve seen so many beautiful places here in the United States, you just can’t see the same or get the experience in a car. Been all over Europe, just not on a bike. I love my heated grips, I have heated gear also, even though I don't ride if it's REALLY COLD. And I feel the same when I buy any new little thing for my bike. Motorcycling is our passion!
I’ve really enjoyed this season, which I missed at the time. All of the countries you showed us are so clean, beautiful, friendly and are now in my plans for future rides. Very helpful too with times of year to visit, especially Norway in the rain!
Germanic / Nordic countries are the best (even though no country is perfect, the pros outweigh the cons in Germanic countries, and they’re way better than most others in many ways, plus the languages are so pretty in every Germanic country) and are clean (compared to most others, being in a Germanic country is a real luxury) and there is mostly nature and only a few houses, so they are on my list of countries where I want to live and visit! I think I will be moved to the Netherlands in the near future, which is great because I learned Dutch and am advanced level, so it would be easy for me to order items off NL wss and buy foods from NL supermarkets, and I cannot wait to be moved! I also want to go to Norway and Iceland and Sweden and the other Nordic countries, and I am also learning Icelandic / Norwegian / Faroese / Swedish / Danish / German / Limburgish / Old Norse etc!

great video as usual - heated grips are ok, but once you have tried a heated jacket and gloves there is no turning back. With those you could have continued North with no problems at all. It is a bit of a faff plugging everything in, but it is a real game changer. Have you noticed how guys in motorcycle shops push bikes around as if they are soooooo light....
I could not agree more. Heated grips warm the palms and thats all, the fingers and backs of the hands still freeze. Had the grips on several bikes, damn near froze to death on rides across Europe. Lol.
Love it!! Winter riding, best piece of kit I have is my heated jacket wired into the bike. 18 years on the road, all year round, best thing ever......as well as the grips.
Good to see you rested and Ronin ready to go again. I understand the camping issues. In the U.S. East - mud, cold, wet or hot with mosquitoes. However, the West is different, particularly in the mountains but watch for smoke on the horizon.

It’s the fan that make the vacum cleaner noice. A crucial detail when riding in hot climate. Remember Atacama desert and the constant risk of overheating. Now, for upgrading the bike for off-road why not go to a Nuda 900R (see Royal Jordanian) with all gear on and no compromises. :)
Hi, Adding hand guards (Bark busters) will keep the wind chill off your hands and let the heat from the grips spread through your hands, hot inside of your hand and frozen outside is one of the most painful experiences I have had

You might feel like you're getting older, but perhaps for a bit of perspective I've been riding a fair bit longer than you've been alive, lol. I'm not personally a fan of aftermarket exhausts, but to each his own. At least you're honest about the reasons why you bought it: you like the sound. Heated grips are a must-have on any motorcycle. I'm a fan of Oxford heated grips for a variety of reason, including the big controls that easily can be operated while wearing big, heavy gloves. Regardless of the brand, however, heated grips are one of those things that you once you've tried them, you can never do without.
@@diegodelavega2941 It's definitely not the case when you drive for a long period. There's been several research papers done on the fact that high noise increases tiredness in both cars and motorcycles. Just drive 600km on a GS and then do the same back on a loudpipe HD and let's see which one is more tiresome.
Don't lump everyone in the US to liking loud pipes. I think you would find it's Harley owners who like loud pipes. When I ride with Harley's they have to ride in the back or I ride well behind them to avoid the noise. Loud pipes don't save lives they annoy the public.
@@toqtoq3361 sounds like the kind of science trump is so fond of. I commute daily which includes lane splitting and if it wasn’t for my loud exhaust I’d be now and could not write this post. And I never see scientist on motorbikes so don’t spread your fake news about facts that every motorcyclist can easily disprove.
I chose the Himalayan over the Honda for several reasons. Easy to maintain. No liquid cooling to deal with. No need to change wheels and suspension to ride off paved roads. Price. Not covered in plastic. For me the Himalayan is the better bike, but I also have a Moto Guzzi V7III for street use.
Riding in the wilderness of south america, asia etc etc the RE is definitely the better bet! Drop the Ronin as often as Basanti and the honda will be a mess! Personally I would chose the Honda Nx400 single over them both.
I'm siding with Noraly at the moment. I just finished in April, 21,000 km from Northern California to the Darien Gap in Panama, turned and took the East side back north. I'm on a 2019 Honda cb500x and it worked fantastic. Turn the key... it starts!
I had a Honda 500CRX back in the mid 80's. It had a drive shaft instead of a chain. Very smooth to ride. I really enjoy your channel. You need to get to Alaska. It is absolutely stunning. Was stationed there in the early 70's for almost 6 years. Stay safe and well.

Cb500x 2019 model which I have , with a deeper growl to it, I love the sound , and it’s your bike ,you can do and put what ever you like on it as its part of the fun of having a bike --the bike becomes part of you 😃--I really don’t know how anyone can give a thumbs down for this video, and you made a good pick with the Daytona hot grips,as I have them as well and are super, I had the Oxford ones before and had so many problems with them. Best upgrade you can do to any bike is the Suspension, as all suspension units are built to a budget on production bikes by the manufacturer. So go for the best that you can afford the Same with your Tyers then you will really enjoy the difference it will make. Keep Riding and Enjoying it Lass 👏🙏👍
I'm very interesting in knowing whether the valves were out of spec. I feel this is one of those things that realistically would be necessary closer to 50k. Especially with good oil changed regularly and ridden reasonably...
The drama is valves suffer from wear during the run in period in the seat. When a valve seat wears, the clearance gets smaller, when they heat up valves dont seat properly and valves end up burning out. Much cheaper to get them done when required
I rebuilt cylinder heads for 25 years. Some seats wear and others don't. Some valve faces wear and others don't. The wear depends on the quality the company wants/specifications. I had a new 2006 V-star 1300 dodo motorcycle several years and rode it 30,000 miles. Yamaha's owners' manual recommending a valve clearance adjustment every 4,000 miles so every spring I checked the minimum valve clearance. It never needed a valve clearance adjusted in 30,000 miles. Not one.
Life is complicated for you Noraly. But thanks for staying in contact with us even though you are home. We like to see you as often as you can post updates.
If you are going to ride in Europe in the winter, get a heated gear with your heated grips. You get batteries ones that run off a usb power back. You can et higher end Kies and Lenz, or less expensive brands from amazon. You just dd it as a middle layer and you will be toasty well below 0c. With heat vest and trouser combo, I have done -25c not issues with a good goretex jacket and pants combo. But the cold does not bother me, I am part polar bear. With a wired 12v system, I have done -40c. 12V puts out a huge amount of heat vs a 5v usb system.

Dallas, just read your post, take heart and change your riding style. I have changed from a sporty bike to a cruiser and it has extender my time on bikes! I too have arthritis in my neck, shoulders and spine. I have had both knees replaced and found that my Kawasaki Vulcan s 650 is great for comfort during days out on the bike, I even go on camping trips still! I can agree with you “getting old sucks”! I am rapidly approaching 70 and I intend to ride as long as I am able. Good luck.
I also have two of the major kinds of arthritis in this drug has helped me quite a bit I’ve been taking it for over 10 years and in my 60s and still riding ..an old bone shaking Harley Davidson ,which actually also helps me from its vibration the drug is .hydroxychloroquine ,,

When I rode the Police BMW's, those heated grips were an absolute godsend in winter ! And what do you mean, " getting old " ???

BMW started this not only for comfort but for safety as well , so you could still easily use your fingers for the break and the clutch.

They make that 40 km from my place and I actually saw the stamping process (titanium!) . Fuel consumption could be considerably less. There's no need to exaggerate. Akrapovic is lighter and louder than stock, but functional improvements are only marginal. In engineering, there are no miracles.

I plan on putting a British Custom aftermarket exhaust on my 2014 Triumph Bonneville. It is not going to be any louder, but the sound is incredible. Sounds like the Bonnie's from the 1960's. The stock mufflers are to restrictive. The rich sound of yesterday is able to come through with the British Custom exhaust. Great show today Noraly. That new exhaust sounds so much better. A good exhaust like the Akropovic is like a symphony on wheels. Take care. Vaughn

The only thing, I don't like about the Honda bikes is that Euro 4, or even 5 sound. Absolutely superb bikes, but the sound is, as you say, like a vacuum cleaner.
That is one HUGE bike shop!!! The sound on the dyno is just music to my ears!!
Late to the party but heated grips were by far my best investment, even during the warmer days there are times where it gets chilly and they were a lifesaver!

There are insurance issues in workshops throughout the world, but there are ways around them for specific circumstances. In Dubai, I used to hold basic car info sessions for various groups, inc. the Boy Scouts. This shop couldn't buy the amount of good publicity that they earned by Noraly's visit.

moisture plus exhaust soot equal sulfuric acid. At 71 years old... I also find the nice wide saddle and windshield keep the ride more comfortable. I have two v twin Hondas. Shadows both 750 and 1100. Love my babies........ In the 70's I bought a 550 4cyl from Honda (in the crate) in Japan......brought it back to the states and assembled it on the pier. Drove it for years and never had one bit of trouble......amazing machines Honda makes. And I have owned American and British bikes over the years. Every one a love / hate relationship for all the usual reasons.

You will definitely appreciate the heated grips. I use a heated jacket and heated pants as well, and that’s with a bike that has a full fairing. I don’t like to get cold. I’ve done that often enough. But you’d have to check if your bike has enough battery charging capacity to run the heated clothes; it most likely will, it’s a Honda.
My bike is a Honda and it has the sewing machine sound too with the stock pipes. So I changed them to something with just a bit of a rumble to them. Much better, but not loud enough to be obnoxious, like far too many bikes have. Too loud is faaar worse than sewing machine sound.

Just started watching your videos, they are so positive and uplifting. I’ve been riding for 50 years, so you keep enjoying and keep on keeping on. I’ve seen so many beautiful places here in the United States, you just can’t see the same or get the experience in a car. Been all over Europe, just not on a bike. I love my heated grips, I have heated gear also, even though I don't ride if it's REALLY COLD. And I feel the same when I buy any new little thing for my bike. Motorcycling is our passion!

I’ve really enjoyed this season, which I missed at the time. All of the countries you showed us are so clean, beautiful, friendly and are now in my plans for future rides. Very helpful too with times of year to visit, especially Norway in the rain!
Germanic / Nordic countries are the best (even though no country is perfect, the pros outweigh the cons in Germanic countries, and they’re way better than most others in many ways, plus the languages are so pretty in every Germanic country) and are clean (compared to most others, being in a Germanic country is a real luxury) and there is mostly nature and only a few houses, so they are on my list of countries where I want to live and visit! I think I will be moved to the Netherlands in the near future, which is great because I learned Dutch and am advanced level, so it would be easy for me to order items off NL wss and buy foods from NL supermarkets, and I cannot wait to be moved! I also want to go to Norway and Iceland and Sweden and the other Nordic countries, and I am also learning Icelandic / Norwegian / Faroese / Swedish / Danish / German / Limburgish / Old Norse etc!

Heated grips in the winter are a must. Some riders add a heated vest, I use a tombstone windshield instead.
great video as usual - heated grips are ok, but once you have tried a heated jacket and gloves there is no turning back. With those you could have continued North with no problems at all. It is a bit of a faff plugging everything in, but it is a real game changer.

I could not agree more. Heated grips warm the palms and thats all, the fingers and backs of the hands still freeze. Had the grips on several bikes, damn near froze to death on rides across Europe. Lol.

Love it!! Winter riding, best piece of kit I have is my heated jacket wired into the bike. 18 years on the road, all year round, best thing ever......as well as the grips.

Good to see you rested and Ronin ready to go again. I understand the camping issues. In the U.S. East - mud, cold, wet or hot with mosquitoes. However, the West is different, particularly in the mountains but watch for smoke on the horizon.

I guess the phrase used to be "sounds like a sewing machine" but I realized not too many people know what that sounds like these days.
It’s the fan that make the vacum cleaner noice. A crucial detail when riding in hot climate. Remember Atacama desert and the constant risk of overheating. Now, for upgrading the bike for off-road why not go to a Nuda 900R (see Royal Jordanian) with all gear on and no compromises. :)

Hi, Adding hand guards (Bark busters) will keep the wind chill off your hands and let the heat from the grips spread through your hands, hot inside of your hand and frozen outside is one of the most painful experiences I have had

You might feel like you're getting older, but perhaps for a bit of perspective I've been riding a fair bit longer than you've been alive, lol. I'm not personally a fan of aftermarket exhausts, but to each his own. At least you're honest about the reasons why you bought it: you like the sound. Heated grips are a must-have on any motorcycle. I'm a fan of Oxford heated grips for a variety of reason, including the big controls that easily can be operated while wearing big, heavy gloves. Regardless of the brand, however, heated grips are one of those things that you once you've tried them, you can never do without.
I like the sound, or the lack of. I don't understand why in the US ,everyone is making everything louder??! Love your stuff!
We like to be heard, every cager is glued to their phones while driving and a loud exhaust is often the only way to draw attention away from texting.
Noise helps riders to notice and wakes drivers , kind of alert.
@@diegodelavega2941 It's definitely not the case when you drive for a long period. There's been several research papers done on the fact that high noise increases tiredness in both cars and motorcycles. Just drive 600km on a GS and then do the same back on a loudpipe HD and let's see which one is more tiresome.
Don't lump everyone in the US to liking loud pipes. I think you would find it's Harley owners who like loud pipes. When I ride with Harley's they have to ride in the back or I ride well behind them to avoid the noise. Loud pipes don't save lives they annoy the public.

And I never see scientist on motorbikes so don’t spread your fake news about facts that every motorcyclist can easily disprove.

Having ridden both they are both very cramped but the RE is a much nicer bike to ride back roads on! Boring highways are the honda's territory..

I chose the Himalayan over the Honda for several reasons. Easy to maintain. No liquid cooling to deal with. No need to change wheels and suspension to ride off paved roads. Price. Not covered in plastic.
For me the Himalayan is the better bike, but I also have a Moto Guzzi V7III for street use.
Riding in the wilderness of south america, asia etc etc the RE is definitely the better bet! Drop the Ronin as often as Basanti and the honda will be a mess! Personally I would chose the Honda Nx400 single over them both.
I'm siding with Noraly at the moment. I just finished in April, 21,000 km from Northern California to the Darien Gap in Panama, turned and took the East side back north. I'm on a 2019 Honda cb500x and it worked fantastic. Turn the key... it starts!

I had a Honda 500CRX back in the mid 80's. It had a drive shaft instead of a chain. Very smooth to ride. I really enjoy your channel. You need to get to Alaska. It is absolutely stunning. Was stationed there in the early 70's for almost 6 years. Stay safe and well.

Cb500x 2019 model which I have , with a deeper growl to it, I love the sound , and it’s your bike ,you can do and put what ever you like on it as its part of the fun of having a bike --the bike becomes part of you 😃--I really don’t know how anyone can give a thumbs down for this video, and you made a good pick with the Daytona hot grips,as I have them as well and are super, I had the Oxford ones before and had so many problems with them. Thanks for sharing. The CB500X (2019) was recently voted #1 in the under 500cc class by MCN magazine. Must be worth that investment i imagine. Ride safe.
Best upgrade you can do to any bike is the Suspension, as all suspension units are built to a budget on production bikes by the manufacturer.
So go for the best that you can afford the Same with your Tyers then you will really enjoy the difference it will make.

I'm very interesting in knowing whether the valves were out of spec. I feel this is one of those things that realistically would be necessary closer to 50k.
Especially with good oil changed regularly and ridden reasonably...
The drama is valves suffer from wear during the run in period in the seat. When a valve seat wears, the clearance gets smaller, when they heat up valves dont seat properly and valves end up burning out. Much cheaper to get them done when required
I rebuilt cylinder heads for 25 years. Some seats wear and others don't. Some valve faces wear and others don't. The wear depends on the quality the company wants/specifications. I had a new 2006 V-star 1300 dodo motorcycle several years and rode it 30,000 miles. Yamaha's owners' manual recommending a valve clearance adjustment every 4,000 miles so every spring I checked the minimum valve clearance. It never needed a valve clearance adjusted in 30,000 miles. Not one.
Life is complicated for you Noraly. But thanks for staying in contact with us even though you are home. We like to see you as often as you can post updates.
If you are going to ride in Europe in the winter, get a heated gear with your heated grips. You get batteries ones that run off a usb power back. You can et higher end Kies and Lenz, or less expensive brands from amazon. You just dd it as a middle layer and you will be toasty well below 0c. With heat vest and trouser combo, I have done -25c not issues with a good goretex jacket and pants combo. But the cold does not bother me, I am part polar bear. With a wired 12v system, I have done -40c. 12V puts out a huge amount of heat vs a 5v usb system.
