Great review. Coped an interview with Mark ! Congrats ! Kinda thought the Meteor would be in your stable by now. 😉
@@lancerbiker5263 I very much enjoyed the Meteor, but after a day on a Hunter, I definitely found myself leaning toward it instead. Just suited me and my riding style better,
Jan 2025: I bought an SCL500 late last summer and put nearly 2,000 kilometres before storing it for winter. This bike is fantastic. People have quips about the sound of the motor but it’s sooo quiet it’s like it’s in stealth mode. I’m 6’ 2” and even with out the optional high seat it’s very comfortable but I bought the big higher seat anyways. I’ve had this out for 250 kilometre rides and was never uncomfortable. The mileage is off the charts. With a 12 litre tank I easily get 300 klicks out of it. I love it!
Great testimonial! Thanks for sharing.
if only they built a 750---950. But then that bike would cost over 20K.
Had the exact same bike...best bike I ever owned.
Reservoir cover on EBay £8 really nice.
Sir.. 400cc isnt small at all.. 40 HP it produces is enough to get some trouble.. and in some special countries such as mine who the governments live by taxes.. anything above 250cc gets 100% tax from its MSRP.. so its not a small engine at all..
Perspective and context are everything. In America, this is considered a small displacement motorcycle, since all the brands have bikes that are so much larger. But I understand where you’re coming from. In many parts of the world, 400 cc is pretty sizable. Thanks for sharing.
It was fun to join your Trip, thanks guys
@@thomasreitenspie6827 thanks for “riding along” with us!
Love that Royal Enfield got some love! They introduced a number of exciting models this year. 2025 looks to be another great year for them. I can't wait to see the Classic 650 in person!
It's hard not to love their bikes.
At your height can you flat foot at stops? I'm 5'9" with 30" inseam.
@@HAMILTONPROVIDEO yes, I’m 5’8”, and can flat foot it.
@roaddirttv Thanks a lot. That helps. I was trying to decide between this and the rebel. I'm guessing that the scl gives greater visibility.
I am currently watching Joe Ryan (Aussie Motorcyclist) travelling around Vietnam on a RE 450, he has previously ridden around Australia on a RE 411 and through India on a RE. Royal Enfield is a great little bike which appears to be able to go anyway. Great video with great bikes. Stay upright
@@ronwarber9359 thanks, glad you enjoyed!
Surprised the MT09 SP was down the list at #5. I rode a lot of bikes this past year too, and I'd say the SP was the best new bike I've ridden in quite some time. These days emissions can make modern bikes run like crap, but the Yamaha was just fine. Ya it's a bit restricted, but fueling was great. Engine and quick shifter so so good 👍
@@churchofbrap876 the Tracer 9 GT+ was our 2023 Bike of the Year, so we certainly love the CP3 mill. We’ve had an MT-07 as well, another fantastic bike, but like the video & writeup shows, we rode lots of great bikes this year.
Great video
Great bike. Identical to mine. A windscreen is a must at higher speeds though.
@@mikespeaks6038 or a full face helmet, at least,
i think the m8 is more japanese but better engineering is what it is
Okay, I'll address the elephant in the room. That exhaust is more unsightly than my dearly departed grandmother's behind. I couldn't imagine how hot that would be for a passenger. (the pipe....not my gramma)
I love the simplicity of my Hunter 350. I love its sound, fabulous braking ability, comfortable seat and its center stand. However, I kept looking for the 6th gear. I kept thinking that if the Hunter had 20 more horsepower and lost 25 pounds it would be just fantastic. Then comes the Speed 400, and except for no center stand it checks all my boxes. Less than 400 pounds, 6 gears, disc brakes, ABS, 40 hp, traction control, all LED lights. It is like Triumph read my mind and created the Speed 400 just for me. I just picked up my Caspian Blue Speed 400 on December 20, 2024 frim Engke Motors in KC, MO. Ask for Dom. Wonderful experience. Black Friday deal. No freight, no dealer prep fees, plus I got a $500 gift card. Which allowed me to get the radiator guard, upgraded seat for my old butt, the cover for the headlight, the windscreen and mounting hardware. Wish the Speed had a center stand kike yhe Hunter. The Hunter seat is much more comfortable. The Speed 400 seat constantly pitches you forward towards the tank. I am hoping the upgraded seat will behave differently. So far that is my only negatives on the Speed, no center stand, and the odd sloping seat. Many current day bikes suffer that same seat problem. Also, a lot of the population does not want a 500-800 pound or more bike, with 1200cc or more. The Hunter 350 and Speed 400 are both delighful to ride. Bikes like this will give people an affordable entry into the joys of riding. If the manufacturers can keep the prices down and dealerships can keep there fees low then these are fairly good introductory bikes. Both made in India of very good quality. You would do well with either the Hunter or the Speed.
A job well done 👍
Still riding that bike, on that rim. Never had another issue with it.
This is a really helpful video. Thank you mate for taking the time . Just done my Himalayan in a big old pothole . Pretty much just the rim i reckon . A job for after Christmas 😂👍
2 time or 4 time the motor ??
I have the’21 model. Highly customised…. I’ll keep it for life.
I have the triumph speed 400, my neighbor has the KTM 390. In the next community over a rider has the bmw 310r and not to far away someone owns a husquvarna 401.
@@sleeplessvirus I’m telling ya, the small displacement bikes are so much fun.
Hi, am thinking of buying this in Canada. Is it good decision or should I go for a bigger bike? I had RE 350 in India and few other bikes below 300cc. Whats your advice for me ?
You’ll find this 400 is considerably more powerful than a comparable RE 350. Rob (our rider) is 5’8”, and the bike fit him perfectly. Riders above 5’10” might find it a little cramped, yet we’ve heard from 6’ + riders who love it. Get a test ride if you can, and come back and share your thoughts here. We’d love to see what you think!
It's an excellent bike I recommend it to any beginner or even anyone with experience very snappy very responsive ! I like it alot but think I may need the 675nk 😂
❤❤❤❤❤
Happy Birthday ! Hope you get to experience the big 70 and 80 on two wheels.... best wishes... Enjoyed the video, thans for sharing
Thank you so much!
I bought my '96 VFR750 s/hand in 2001 and I've still got it. Why? Because I can't think of anything I'd want to replace it with. Would I like a more modern bike? Of course, but I can't afford two bikes. Will it keep up with modern sports bikes? Of course not. Will it keep up with modern "dual-sport" bikes with ABS and electronic this and that and the other? Of course not. Will any of the aforementioned still be going at ~30 years old and sound like nothing else on the road? Probably not. These bikes are built to last.
Well-said.
I recall you said you wear euro 54, I am close to your body dimensions but a tad shorter. If you have tried alpinestars, would you say Revit is for taller guys?
Is actually say the Rev'It would work better if you're a little shorter. The A* I wore was longer in the legs, almost too long.
@@Ryhno411thanks man
This is still so relevant today as we approach 2025, I am fortunate enough to have a dealer with both '23 and a '24 model on the floor new, as '25 approaches. There's a significant discount on the '23, OH Happy Day!!!
Merry Christmas to you! 😆
How do feel the bike would do at 80mph for a long period of time? Also… would someone who’s 6’2, 200lbs. Would the 450 be a good bike? I have a klr650 I enjoy a lot, but really lik the look of the 450
It would be at near max rpm with a rider your size, but I feel like the bike would manage it fine. You’ll get mild-moderate vibration in the handlebars over time at those speeds, and at 6’2”, 200 lbs, you might feel a bit cramped on it during a long day in the saddle. That said, I know several journalists on that demo who were your size, who absolutely loved their time riding it.
Nice video thanks 🙌 Am thinking to get this cycle for me am a biginer
@@prguerero a great beginner bike, that you won’t soon get tired of. 👍🏻
@ thanks 🙏
@@prguerero we would also recommend, if you have opportunity and access, to take a motorcycle rider safety course. This will give you many necessary skills to ride safely and enjoyably.
Yes, you can get a cover for the reservoir. I already put one on, and I also painted the muffler black with the brake and clutchhandle bars. Put the Rebel 500cc mirrors on they are shorter and look a lot better. Got an oil temp gage on the engine block and a metal screen on the headlight, and an original Honda luggage rack for it. They are making it already.

How to use stem mount on a non hollow stem aka a screw hole? I bought it then only realized that my motorcycle doesnt have hollow stem. Only normal screw hole. Please someone help me.
@@aledalamak contact their customer support, as they should be able to assist you with that issue.
Maryland: $3999 black Friday special.. Out the door w/ Taxes, tags and Title was $5900. Watch for Dealer markups and "Shipping Charges". I thought that a bit much. Very nice bike though..
I don't drive a motorcycle, but use these in two of my cars and just upgraded both to these new wireless charging versions.
@@KevinFlory993 so we’re assuming you like how they perform? Any caveats?
So far but full disclosure I m a huge PD fanboy across the board. For my cars these pair great with the bike mount and keep either my phone or iPad secure when hammering the corners on a nice mountain road. The iPad does not support the wireless charging so that of course is just for the phone. I also use the desk stand in two cars to afford wireless charging in those cases where I don’t/can’t use the mount. I also use these in ways they were not intended, yet still the best solution by far.
@@KevinFlory993 good testimonial!
Careful on those twistys man. You were hard on the double yellow "and" the shoulder line. There be gravel fragments there, I don't have say what happens to the front tire if the two meet each other..
Too bad it was such a short video.
@@SoulDaddy33 agreed. Wish we could have obtained more footage. Thankful for what they shared with us.
How was your fuel mileage on the Yamaha?
If my memory serves me, out on the highway I got like 45-50 mpg. Around towns, about 35-40 mpg.
Too much blacked out/plastic looking in the engine area IMO but understand that is the latest styling. I think it's great though the Honda and other manufacturer's are making this 400-600CC bikes. Not everyone wants a 1000-1200 cc bike.
Agreed. These small displacement bikes are fantastic.
Good quick overall review. I have a 19, still haven’t mastered the menu!
@@stephenharriau1406 they seem to have simplified the dash and menu considerably from your model to this one. We found it pretty easy to navigate.

Wonder if it is suitable for a beginner and short rider or not🤔
@@aaff3846 great beginner bike, and for riders under 5’9”, in our opinion.
I have a V Strom 1050XT which is a very powerful and very heavy bike, I love it but it’s hugely top heavy. I just today ordered a 500X, only 100 miles on the clock so will need to run it in. So looking forward to riding relaxed and knowing the limits of it doesn’t bother me in the slightest. Can’t wait for it to arrive. At 70 years old, 249kg is just a bit heavy nowadays so this will feel like a pushbike.
You will quite enjoy this smaller, lighter, but still fun motorcycle. Keep on riding!
I bought these gloves last spring and forgot I had them. A trip recently to my dealer (1 1/2) hr ride was brutal. Swapped out bikes. The one I picked up had heated grips, much better. Felt silly when I got home to find the gloves in front of me. I'm sure they were laughing at me.!!!
@@johnlenart597 I just recharged the ones in this video, used them for the first time this year on a day ride earlier this week. Ambient temps were mid-40s, so much colder at speed. They still work great, hold a good charge, and my hands didn’t get cold. Still highly recommend them! Paired with a Meltivo battery heated jacket, I was comfy and toasty all day in the saddle. www.meltivo.com Promo code: RD20 (for the Meltivo jacket)
Another great review from your good self. I enjoyed your video on the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 too, I owned one for 18 months and thoroughly enjoyed it but traded it in a couple of months ago for the new Guerrilla 450. It probably wont surprise you when I say that I came close to buying the SCL500 which carries some very similar lines to the Guerrilla, both great looking bikes IMO. I'm glad I waited though, it was really another single I was after 👍 You speak some very solid words of wisdom 😉 regarding the power and size of an engine. I had one of the first Hayabusas over 20 years ago and it was a great machine but, like yourself, in recent years I've really started finding the appeal of the smaller capacity bikes which you can ride hard and are really at home on the kind of roads I enjoy here in the UK. I am subscribed so don't miss out on your videos 👍 All the best, Phil (UK) 😊
