    But what about the Environmental effects. In California, cars in that state have a smog check every few years, if you don't pass you can't operate the vehicle in California. One of the tests is for a Malfunctioning evaporative emission control system (EVAP), which is why all gas cars in the US have EVAP canisters. I do know that the quick fill gas inlet on a lot of Ford's, (it doesn't have a screw-on cap, just a rubber flap on the inlet) cause it to fail the test cause the way Ford made it. You usually have to replace the whole unit (like a $900 repair) with the associated piping to pass the test, IE the test, it detects the leaking vapors from the car. Wondering if the fix will be detect this type of fuel leak, and fail the test/certification

    After considering it carefully, I have decided that I would rather not have a vehicle in my garage that is leaking gasoline. I believe a lot of it has to do with it being an attached garage. I would just sleep better at night without any amount of gasoline dripping onto the floor.

    • @reason2gether
      @reason2gether 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      You would know immediately if it were leaking gasoline and would have time to do something about it, such as park it outside until the Ford dealer comes to tow it back for repairs. You have no such forewarning with a defective lithium-Ion battery that internally shorts out while you are in bed sleeping.

    • @dvader3263

      @@reason2getherMillions of homes have heating furnaces in their garages where cars are parked. Cars, trucks and boats(with drain plugs opened) can leak gas in the garage. The furnace starts up and lights up the gas fumes. Natural gas also causes terrific explosions in garages, inside homes and commercial structures, usually obliterating (blowing up) entire buildings.
      Every 45 seconds, somewhere in the USA, an internal combustion vehicle lights on fire, either while being driven or while parked.
      So, at all times, somewhere in the USA, an ICE vehicle is burning.
      Gas cars and trucks catch on fire at a greater rate for their numbers than electric cars. Ask any Firefighter, Fire Marshall or Fire Department representative.
      The explosive force of gasoline and natural gas is extremely dangerous.
      Any vehicle or heavy equipment fire, whether electric, gas or natural gas can cause extensive damage to structures.

      There is no danger of death because when the fuel pump is off, the fire stops. A driver might exit a running car with an engine fire, and leave the fuel pump operating. Most will shut off the ignition. There could be an infernal in the engine compartment, but the electric fuel pump would quit before the tank ignited.
      I don't believe there has been an actual engine fire, only some dripping fuel which will smell gassy as it evaporates.
      The fuel tank is in the rear of the vehicle so only a small amount of gasoline could potentially ignite - if there was a spark. This defect can cause a dipping, there is no immediate spark to ignite the gasoline. Some might ignore the gasoline odor for days or weeks.
      Old VW bugs had rubber fuel lines above the exhaust manifold. Replace the rubber line every two years and all is well. Many didn't and there were fires.
      I wish EV batteries smelt like burnt popcorn before the car went up like a Roman candle, but there is no advsnce warning.

    Deeply disappointed that the vehicles don't get fitted with an injector seat, Sam! I had visions of an LA freeway jam with thousands of Americans being shot into the air!😁 Seriously though, the "fix" seems like something of a (sick) joke - surely Ford could do better, than a pipe to divert wasted fuel onto the road and following cars? I would also be unconcerned about a burning cigarette igniting the fuel gushing from these vehicles because the cigarette tip doesn't burn hot enough to ignite the fuel vapour. The same cannot be said about the flame from the cigarette lighter/match.(Don't believe everything you see in Hollywood movies.)

      It does not have to be all of them. Is unlikely to be all in that the supplier who created the things has likely tested enough of them to be confident that they would not leak. Had some margin too. Maybe the material supplier to the injector maker provided a slightly lower quality material. Now 1 in 10K are failing kind of thing. One of several possibilities.

    While a fuel leak is always serious, it is usually detectable by its smell, and it is more important to prevent it from igniting if possible. I don't like Direct Fuel Injection systems as they raise the fuel pressure to extreme pressures which are hard to contain. They are not worth the slight improvement in emissions or fuel economy over traditional Port Fuel Injection systems. Even so, comparing gasoline fueled vehicles' tendencies to catch fire to full Electric Battery Vehicle fires is an apples and oranges comparison. The number and severity of EV fires will only increase if the volume of EVs increase as proponents of EVs like yourself hope for. It is proven that gasoline fueled vehicles can be very safe when properly designed as they have been for many years. It is not yet proven that the same can be said for Battery Electric vehicles with Lithium-Ion Batteries. I believe more needs to be done to find a better and safer battery system in order for EVs to realize their true potential. Until then, the push to EVs needs to slow down. It is foolish and dangerous to push to fill the roads and garages with the current design of EVs with Lithium-Ion batteries.
    We have not even begun to the talk about the potential for harm to service personnel in the future with high voltage being present or the undiscussed issues of long-term exposure to strong magnetic fields created by the high voltage wires and drive motors during acceleration. Until all this can be researched and ironed out, we need to continue to improve what already is working for now. We need to be less concerned with blistering acceleration capabilities and be more concerned with fuel economy and safety. This alone requires people to mature in their ways of thinking about what automobiles are for in the first place. Amen?

    • @danharold3087
      @danharold3087 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      When we talk about vehicle fires we normalize the rate by counting fires per 100K cars sold. Selling more or less cars does not change this ratio. Battery research is happening at an almost alarming rate. The global battery market was valued at $120.74 billion in 2023. People wanting a part of that are spending many millions to ensure they have the battery people want.
