Brian Ortega took some serious damage at the hands of Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 266. Somehow Ortega was able to continue fighting but there are some real concerns for major injury after that likely fight of the year candidate. In this video we'll review what happenend and the main injury concerns!

Incredible fight, Volk is a beast, Ortega is the kind of fighter who is too tough for his own good, man deserves all the respect in the world.
I mean it was for a belt. He woulda been willing to damn near die in that cage for a belt im sure. I think volks unusually long reach for a little guy fucks with guys.
and when you take that fight vs holloway in the equation....maaan, ortega took so much damage.

Ortega needs to break and heal. Or he'll be done like Tony ferg after taking too much Justin gayje power shots. Agreed great fight but Ortega may have ruined himself after the max and now Alex fight. Yikes. I think stipee had his eye smashed too and various organs suffering blunt force trauma after taking Ngannou 2.0 hits and kicks. Stipee may not be the same either

Brian could not get up and was lifted and assisted by his team to do so which is illegal.
The doctors also did Brian a disservice letting him continue when he was obviously not answering their questions appropriately.

Herb could have called it at least twice. I don’t think anybody would have said it was a bad stoppage. Brian is too tough.
He also got almost 2 extra minutes when the doctor was checking him after the bell ring. If you can't make it to your corner and the stool on your own and be ready to fight when the bell ring, stop the fight.
What part of if he dies, he dies didn't herb dean do this time? that was brutal to watch

i was surprised they let him fight he looked out of it. Crazy how he finished that fight tho, its like muscle memory took over, especially in the 5th where i had him winning

Doc Brian really deserves to have a MASSIVE channel. It’s really messed up that so many stupid channels that post meaningless often times bizarre content get huge view numbers while a channel like this that’s teaching people about sports medicine in such a fun way is still not as big as it should be. YT gotta change it’s algorithm and help the channels that really make a difference be seen more. Thank you Doc for sharing with us. We’re all super proud of you! These types of videos it’s like getting a medical education for free.

@@mlgtactics9911 clickbait? Name one channel that doesn’t try to entice people to click a video in one way or another? When you’re a smaller channel you have to find creative ways to get seen. What Doc does isn’t perfect but it’s hardly horrible “clickbait”. There’s a lot of YTers that literately use beautiful girls they don’t know completely bogus titles and promise content they never deliver. At worst Doc Brian will focus heavily on the topic of the video that’s not anything to be concerned about.
As to advertising skin care I’m sure he’d love to just work with sporting goods products and equipment companies but when you’re growing it’s not possible. You gotta take everything you can get to achieve that success. The companies he’d wanna promote likely don’t know about him yet. As the saying says beggars can’t be choosers. He’s never promoted anything creepy or weird or immoral if you don’t like the ad section skip through it it’s easy really!

This fight was insane. I wanted them to call it but Ortega kept coming back.

When he didn’t get up on his own at the end of the round after taking countless punches the ref should’ve stopped it. Live to train harder and fight another day
Yea that was a big red flag. Ortega was going to lose. It would’ve been better had he lost without suffering more unnecessary damage. I think Herb Dean is a negligent referee. Not to mention he’s been the ref for many of weird stoppages in the last few years.

It was incredible to see him keep pushing forward and walking through big shots while trying to put something together to get the finish in the 5th. Dude did not give a fuck
What about his team they were the ones who picked him up on the stool. His own team is just as at fault as the ref. Sometimes you have to protect the fighter from themselves.

"somehow managed to get up" he didn't get up, he was picked up by his teammates and carried to the chair, at that point it should have been a TKO victory, it's a big mess up no one is talking about.

His team mate indirectly murdered him in a very cruel way, which is a very sad thing to see. It is considerably no less cruel than human trafficking crime. Anyone, if he is your son, husband, father, brother, would you let him take that kind of punishment.

@@fajarliong Cut them some slack. It's a title fight for the belt. Circumstances are different here, I don't condone it but I can understand the urgency. Championship fights are worth it.
Ortega „somehow managed to get up“ after the 3rd round with the help of his corner team. That shouldn‘t have been allowed because it‘s actually against the rules. If a fighter can‘t get up by himself, he shouldn‘t be allowed to continue.

I don't know how someone can survive two FULL 5 rounds WARS with Holloway and Volk and still be able to fight another day. I hope he takes the time off he needs to fully recover. He can't keep having wars like this.
I dont think anyone else other than Max and Volk can bring this type of war to Ortega. But if he gets into another war like that he should retire because that was definitely not healthy

They’re asking him, he’s like I’ll be alright. Fighters need to protected from themselves sometimes. The next time this happens someone might take irreversible damage if they let them continue. I saw it in Volks eyes he started looking like I don’t want to punch this guy anymore.
It was FOTY material, but I was wincing every time Volkanovski was landing a hit on Ortega after the 3rd round. I thought they were going to stop it before the 4th.

Ortega is the epitome of too tough for ones own good. His career is going to be a lot shorter because of the stupid culture of MMA.
His ability to feed himself is going to be a lot shorter too.

He was hoping the ref, medic, or coaches would stop the fight, none of them did their job, most fighters at the top will never just quit themselves

And let's not forget if this does end up being a orbital fracture, this will be the second time in his career that has happened since he also fractured his orbital in the Holloway fight. Tough as they come but he's having very serious damage that in most cases will prematurely change the way he fights

Behind the scene of DW when that other guy got terribly beaten DW got the ambulance ready while the fight was ending to get guy to the hospital he told guys team nothing don't do anything or make plans get him on the bus.

Man Herb Dean really screwed up, that fight should have been called several times, Ortega never should have taken that much damage.
Just watched a Chael Sonnen vid about connor mcgregors new titanium "leg". It talked about if his titanium rod will offer any benefit to the fighters and if they should even be outlawed. I'd love for you to talk about this from a doctors perspective

One of the great jai alai players in south Florida, Arriaga, caught a pelota in the face which crushed his orbital bone. He came back, but you could see he was never the same. If you don’t know jai alai, it’s the fastest sport with the hardest ball in all of sports. The ball can move upwards to 160mph.

Would be very interested to see a video about how much pain are the fighters in after a fight and for how long. I had double jaw reconstruction surgery 15 years ago, I still feel it today, and it took a looong time to heal... not even 100%. So i'm always amazed that someone who had his face completely bashed in can fight 6 months later.

I’m still trying to figure out how Volk got out of that guillotine. I’m also still trying to figure out how Ortega’s best round was the fifth… after he was “beaten to a living death” (shout out to Ken Shamrock).
I think the fifth was his best round because volk already knew he won the fight so he kinda took it easy in the last round.

You should take a look at the callum smith vs lenin castillo fight. Castillo suffered a bad KO and then started convulsing on the ring.
