I have a 2000 silverado and that catalytic converters plugged which caused it to run horrible. I only really drive it locally to town and back in the winter to keep from driving my new silverado in the salt i do keep the old truck sprayed every fall before winter so rust is almost not an issue still. A shop quoted me a huge price to have them replaced so I brought it home and they went bye bye. Been like this for a couple years now. Good enough for what I use it for.
I sold some off of a 2000 25004x4 for $700. Called the guy and he came and picked them up. I’m looking at buying a 02 2500 4x4 for $1300 and selling the cats off it to recoup some of that money. It needs a front seal on the transmission
Flowmaster 40 series is the best muffler for am 5.3. They’re not too loud in the cabin, no drone sound and sounds beautiful when you’re driving it. That’s my favorite setup. Never went straight pipe before cause you can’t carry a conversation inside the cab without screaming to understand one another 😊
I have a ram 1500 5.2 and I've done my exhaust every way possible besides true duals and I loved the sound with gutted cats and no mufflers but it droned out the cab too much so I put a glass pack on it and it's loud but tolerable in the cab now.
ive got a catback flowmaster on my 5.3 and absolutely love the sound, been thinking about just going catback dual straights, but im also stuck in between keeping it a bit lower profile and still pretty loud, or changing the sound and maybe sounding like shit just to get more volume.

I don't think it's normal, but I suppose it is possible that the catalyst material may have broken loose somehow and over time blew out the end of the exhaust.
crusty but trusty, my "95" still good engine over 200,000.clean crack on exhaust behind cat. could hot exhaust heat up trans fluid in pan nearby ? Thinking of running straight pipe will it affect gas milage ? allowed in rural area.
Someone help please. My drivers side cat on my 04 1500 was clogged BAD so I cut a hole made a little door thing peeled it open and gutted it all out. It looked like coal lmao but now my truck is insanely loud will that damage the engine ??? No I did not weld it back or close it it’s just there. Open. Btw my truck was already deleted under the cab. Has no exhaust muffler or anything.
Did you spit any engine codes after doing this set up?? I've got a 98 and can hear the honeycomb rattling. With the cat converter bs going on I was very curious in trying this. And in about 1 more year no emissions is a +
Yes, engine codes will appear unless the 02 sensor is bypassed and or before the catalytic converter and no second 02 sensor behind the catalytic converter receiving the post cat reading.
Can anyone tell me how he cuts through them like butter, I’ve tried doing this and my grinder just is getting through even on regular exhaust tubing, it’s having a hard time cutting through
I’m actually thinking of pulling the cats off my 4.8L and putting a 12” cherry bomb glass pack. It’s got an exhaust dump right behind the cab. Would you wanna do a test to see what that would sound like?
Wow, in terms out loudness..it didn't make all that much difference. Just made it deeper, bassier, and throatier. It is a little more raspy and pops more. I'd say DB rating would be about 100 on cold starts. Revs, it probably topped 115 or 120. Cruising would be about 105-110. If you want it louder, run true dual 2.5 inch pipes with 6 inch tips. If you still want loud but, a more refined sound. Put a x-pipe where it y's into the single and put a h-pipe about midway down the system.
