    This was really helpful. My steering wheel just stiffened up and if it's not due to a critter chew, at least I know where the power steering module is and can check it out before towing it to our mechanic. Thanks so much for posting this! BTW tell-tale signs of issues (other than the power steering problem ALERT on the dash!) is that the steering wheel locks off and on the weeks before complete failure. I would be wary of just assuming all is good once it stops freezing up if your viewers haven't found the real issue. You do not want your steering wheel to freeze up on the freeway.

    I've had my 2013 Subaru Impreza for a couple years and just experienced this issue. This seems to also apply to that year as well. I'll check your advice tomorrow morning once I reunite with my car. I hope it is a simple fix! Thank you for sharing what you've learned.

      Any update, I'm running into similar issue with mine, I stored it outside this winter, thinking I got crittered....

      @@kartboarder22g17 unfortunately no.... By the time the techs looked at my car, the issue disappeared 🤨 I was grateful they didn't charge me for the trouble or label me crazy for making up stories. Maybe a short in it somewhere since it's electrical? They cleared the error code as well so there was no way for my primary mechanic to troubleshoot it without an error code history once I got back home (I was traveling when it happened). It hasn't happened again (yet)... I hope you figure out your issue!

    Thanks, mate, great video. Power steering on my Crosstreck 2014 hybrid, is turning off randomly while driving, the display throws an error, and the steering wheel is getting hard to turn. but after stopping the car and turn on it again it works fine. I'm going to check that power steering control module tomorrow, hope that will help.

      This is exactly what is happening to mine, sometimes when I start the car and go to turn the steering wheel I get a error and no power steering. If I restart the car it fixes it. I stuck my car outside for the winter. I'm wondering if that was a bad idea and the critters got to it now......

      @@kartboarder22g17 if the battery is starting to go out, it might do this. Cold weather kills batteries as well so if it’s been sitting for a while then it does this when you first start it, I wouldn’t be surprised if the weak battery is playing a role. Check any of the wiring going to that module as well to make sure there’s no broken or damaged wiring

    Thank you for the video!
    I just got a used 2015 subaru impreza limited out of town and when I got home today I parked it and went inside to tell my wife and to have her test drive it. When she got into the car she turned it on and the power steering warning light came on. I was like Wtf! and was trying to se where the power steering fluid went and couldn't find anything. I hoped online and saw it had an electric power steering. I've been trying to see what's going on with it. At least with this video I can try and figure something out now that I know where the module is.
    Thank you

      @@MJAltairy will do man! I'm hoping it's the same issue as yours.. I checked the battery yesterday because that's all I could find online for a fix. In the manual it doesn't even show where the fuse is to check it. You wouldn't happen to know what fuse goes to that system would you?
      I'll be checking it again in an hour or so

    • @MJAltairy
      @MJAltairy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@figfiggy117 i don’t even think it has a fuse for that system, i was unlucky in my search. I would possibly disconnect the battery, get access to that power steering module, remove the connectors going to it, check the wiring and connectors, reconnect everything , turn on the car and try the steering system. Check and make sure none of the wiring might’ve gotten loose and burned on any hot surfaces as well

    • @figfiggy117
      @figfiggy117 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MJAltairy I saw online somewhere that fuse 33, inside the car on under and to the left side of steering wheel might have something to do with it. I'm gonna give that a shot but believe you know more so I'm not to optimistic about it.. I will definitely try unplugging the battery and checking the connections on the power steering module. It's raining right now so I'm waiting to see if it dies down before getting all wet. Right now I'm trying to update my obd2 reader because it's not showing any codes for the car even though the power steering warning light is on. So I'm thinking I might have to update it.
      I appreciate your help brother, I'll definitely do what you said as soon as I can. I also contacted the Hyundai dealer that I got it from because I still have to 3 day return on it, it expires tomorrow the 27th at 9pm. I told them about my problem and the sales guy who got me the car said he would talk to his manager to see if I could possibly take it to my nearest Hyundai dealer by my house to get it looked at. Another thing I told him about that I noticed after the power steering warning light came on was that it had 2 lights out which I didn't notice before buying the car, which doesn't seem right considering he told me they did a 160 point inspection on the car prior to sale. I'm pretty sure the headlights are one of the first things they check so now I'm thinking they didn't do any inspection at all..
      I'll definitely keep you posted on what happens though, again, I appreciate your help man!

      @@edisonmusteqja2189 i think it's definitely something inside steering rack. will just have to have the steering rack replaced. if subaru is under 10 years old i think subaru will cover it. if not, will have to have the mechanic get it and will probably cost anywhere from 600-1000 dollars. and then labor cost to install.
