Great review! Just purchased this machine. I have Mike & Ike candy in mine and works perfectly! With 5 and 2 year old grandsons, I'm ok with the slow candy dispenser - lol. Also, the jelly beans pictured are gourmet jelly beans which are actually smaller than M&Ms. Also, one word: FLAVACOL! Adding a small amount with your oil and popcorn will give it that movie theater color and flavor 🙂
Fun fact coconut oil is what they actually use at movie theaters. I use the great northern popcorn all in one packs off Amazon TONS easier and not as messy as dumping oil separately. I wish mine had candy dispenser in it though lol
Thanks UC! This is great. Picking this up today. I am also worried about the cleanup as well. I heard from other people they can prove difficult to keep clean long term. I think if you just keep up with it, you can avoid any major problems. The scents and the sounds in your theater room from a real popcorn machine is well worth the cleanup and or maintenance. I’m putting sno caps in my dispenser and I am gonna dominate them.
I just got their 8 oz. popcorn cart (without the candy dispenser), last Saturday. So far it’s great. Looks really cool, smells awesome and makes great popcorn. I bought some of the Nostalgia branded popcorn that uses coconut oil and comes in individual packs that include the exact amounts of popcorn and oil needed for a batch so it’s super easy. Best Buy sells the popcorn so I used some rewards certificates to get it for next to nothing. I’m going to try and clean after every use so I don’t have any issues with oil build up. Overall a thumbs up.
We have had a very similar style popcorn cart in her home for a few years now a company called Snappy. My family loves being able to have movie theater popcorn for movie nights and Game Nights. You really can't get this flavor out of a microwave popcorn.
This looks pretty nice and would definitely add to the ambiance of the room. Sad part is that I would probably still just microwave my popcorn because cleaning that thing wouldn’t be worth the effort. But neat addition to a game room/movie room 👍🏻. On a side note, the slow candy dispenser could be good to help with portion control 🤣
Yes you absolutely should buy, Nostalgia products are awesome 👌 This is pretty damn cool, although I already have the black one that has the open storage compartment with a clear glass door where the candy compartment is here. My setup is in the landing above both my home theater and arcade, so any popcorn smells don't linger below. I tried it in the home theater at first but I hadn't installed the dyson at the time so air circulation was an issue. You should also consider checking out their Hotdog roller machine. I have the red and white one and it also is very nice, cooks up to a whole 8 pack of dogs at once and the top even has a bun warmer for toasting up to 6 buns.
@@UnqualifiedCritics I plan on getting a cheap small counter which has a glass display for candy bars like the movies. I imagine I can put the hot dog roller on that.
Great video, nothing better than homemade popcorn, I’ve gone with the 8 ounce great northern machine, when using close to 10 years now, the ones with the stand just didn’t put out enough delicious popcorn for my family and I, the kids smell it upstairs and come running down, LOL, enjoy your machine, don’t get burnt when you make multiple batches, stay safe, TTYL
Yes I have a Cretors Popcorn popper and really love it and the smell of popcorn they are the originals maker. Cretors popcorn maker cost me 1700.00 commercial grade, but there are cheaper models poppers out there that are good too.
Nice review. Great call out on the perceived oiliness of popcorn in these types of machines. You can use a lot less oil than you would think. Personally I use peanut oil. I use less than 1/4c oil per 1 cup of popcorn kernels. Your popper is going to get "seasoned."
Thanks for doing this. I just got another GS email indicating my SW is delayed again. Looks like another 3 days, won't ship until the 15th. Hopefully this indicates they have concrete information now.
Awesome review, UC! We've had a small Countertop model Popcorn Maker from Nostalgia in our Kitchen for years so I'm confident yours will last a very very long time!
Excellent video man! I sent you an email. We got a Great Northern popcorn machine without a cart. We made a concession stand/bar area in our gameroom wet bar area. We've had the Great Northern machine for about a year. It's not bad to clean and is made well. I like the idea of the candy dispenser on yours though. That looks slick! There's three buttons on ours, stirrer, light/warmer, and popcorn cooker. Good video 👍
Nice those Great Northern units look like a step up from Nostalgia brand. Looks like they come with metal scoops too: I ordered metal replacements, the plastic popcorn scoop this came with is pretty jank
@@UnqualifiedCritics We received a large metal scoop as well as a plastic scoop like you used in your video. They sent us something like 100 disposable paper popcorn bags that are red and white as well. Nice touch I thought, we use the washable plastic containers though. I put leftover popcorn in gallon size zip lock bags and it keeps it fresh for a couple of weeks. We pop fresh popcorn every other weekend usually. Makes our theater room and barcade room smell like a movie theater. LOL Man I miss the simple things like that in life. Like going to a theater on the weekend to catch a new movie. Ours in our town has closed permanently. 😑🤦
@@DeputyVanHalen5150 Ours main cinema is still open for now but who knows for how long. I plan to get those small plastic vintage popcorn buckets next, my gf hogs the popcorn if we only have 1 bucket at a time
@@UnqualifiedCritics 😂 LOL! I know how that goes. The buckets that we got are pretty nice. I believe that they were only $1 a pc. We bought them all from the Dollar Tree. My older sister told me about them.
When I was shopping around for one I gravitated to the snow cone stand. Still didn't get it but if they put candy on it and not make it look like it's themed in My Little Pony then I'm in lol. I have terrible luck with popcorn kernels getting in my teeth. The worst for me. Looks great in the room!
Nice review as always. Does the same company make a version without the candy dispenser? Ever think about getting a jukebox? I would love to see some reviews on those.
Yup they do, here's the model I was going to get before this one came out: amzn.to/3btcQ4v and yesh I'd love a jukebox but I don't think I currently have room :/
Nice popcorn maker and coconut oil/and or Palm oil is what Movie theaters use. One question you did not answer, what type of popcorn kennels are you using since the popcorn that yo using using looks hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I love
Haha the first batch were mushroom kernels which are giant but I didn't like as much. Then I switched to regular kernels. Been buying them from local places
Hey did you end up with the new base? I have the same issue. The cord is on the wrong side. Please help before I have to modify it. Great video and review as well
When I contacted them about the same situation I was told that I was put on a back order list and would receive an email when they’re going to ship one out, but don’t know when that will be and will let me know about any updates. Also it kinda feels like they are going to make me send back the original base once I get the new base whenever that is.
Hey guys just an update. I received my replacement part. Just called them, gave them a part code, and they called me when the replacement was in. Shipped in like 4 days. Nostalgia costumer service is 💯A+
Picked up similar one, but without the cart off FB marketplace. Best $20. We use the coconut oil and switched to mushroom popcorn. I add movie theatre popcorn salt to oil while cooking, don't really need to add any after popping. Cleanup is pretty easy. With the kettle a little warm, can just wipe out with paper towel. Same with the bottom pan. Like the candy dispenser on this one but seems like a lot of issues with it.
@@UnqualifiedCritics it does. Amazon has a yellow one like movie theatres use that is perfect. Highly recommend the mushroom popcorn. (Also on amazon) It's the type of kernels they use for kettle corn. Fluffier popcorn with less "kernel" in the individual pieces.
This is really appealing until hearing about the candy dispenser issue. It’s bizarre that the dispenser isn’t designed that well because it seems like an issue that would have been very apparent from the start.
if you do small candies it works perfectly but the size of Peanut Butter M&Ms and it dispenses slowly. Anything larger than that and it doesn't work at all. Maybe they only tested the small stuff
@@UnqualifiedCritics Yeah, it just seems like a huge oversight. I feel like anybody who has been to the movies with friends, would be aware that many, if not most, candies are bigger than the standard plain m&m. I would be less harsh about it all if candy dispensers were a relatively new idea, but they’re common enough (and simple enough to test) that I think it’s not unreasonable to expect it to work with a higher number of very standard movie theater candy staples. I’m being critical because overall, the whole package would have been difficult for me to pass up. It’s SO close to being a pickup. But not being able to use the candy dispenser at all for any candy bigger than a plain m&m (and isn’t soft) is a huge shame. It looks cool, but I want the functionality to be there too. Peanut m&ms, peanut butter m&ms, raisenets, whoppers, milk duds, sweet tarts, junior mints, sour patch kids, lemon heads, mike and Ike’s, goobers, etc. MOST of the candies I’d wanna use wouldn’t work, sadly. Just my take on it! Don’t mean to be a downer about it, it’s just close to being amazing!
