CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Effie (Jennifer Hudson) joins the Dreamettes to sing their last song together.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Director Bill Condon brings Tom Eyen's Tony award-winning Broadway musical to the big screen in a tale of dreams, stardom, and the high cost of success in the cutthroat recording industry. The time is the 1960s, and singers Effie (Jennifer Hudson), Lorrell (Anika Noni Rose), and Deena (Beyoncé Knowles) are about to find out just what it's like to have their wildest dreams come true. Discovered at a local talent show by ambitious manager Curtis Taylor Jr. (Jamie Foxx), the trio known as "the Dreamettes" is soon offered the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of opening for popular singer James "Thunder" Early (Eddie Murphy). Subsequently molded into an unstoppable hit machine by Taylor and propelled into the spotlight as "the Dreams," the girls quickly find their bid for the big time taking priority over personal friendship as Taylor edges out the ultra-talented Effie so that the more beautiful Deena can become the face of the group. Now, as the crossover act continues to dominate the airwaves, the small-town girls with big-city dreams slowly begin to realize that the true cost of fame may be higher than any of them ever anticipated.

And SHE was told..."Lose some weight" and voted off of American Idol,A Week later she offered THIS Role Nailed It & The rest is history.
thanks
Rose Franco it was def. more than a week but cool
It was a few years actually.
Rose Franco
I thought she won American Idol
Kayla O. No Fantasia won that season. Oddly enough, Fantasia and Jennifer competed again for the role of Effie. Fantasia almost got the role but the director thought Jennifer’s performance was more authentic and believable
That lil shot of her daughter clapping and crying gets to me every time
Nicole Me too girl me too
Yes
I think it’s way too sappy - she should be beaming, not tearing
@@heaintloveu Get a profile pic. Then u can talk.
I’m good, but thanks
The little girl is just crying and so proud of her mom without noticing that some man is starring at her 😂
+gloryya lovee right, lol. he's all up in her business and she doesnt notice
lol not some man, her father.
yea but she wouldn't know that. Effie always said Magic didn't have a father.
he aint nobody but Curtis lmbo
kwilcox1126 I know that's right. He is just a man (not even a god spelled with the little "g". 😉
Anika's voice was so slept on in this movie. She's killing those soprano notes
yess, those sopranos notes is amazing!!! She's so underrated
THIS‼️
Thank you she has always been my favorite in this whole movie
1:29 yess that’s Anika on the highend belts A5
I love her voice
The final curtain call with all the glitter and shit is the reason why this movie makes me tear up in the end.
+jcr89 awe
Everytime I see this, I think of Florence Ballard.
Absolutely, so do I. When Jennifer Hudson received her ''Golden Globe'' she dedicated it to Florence Ballard (it's available on youtube!) so watch it and enjoy!
Tears....chills...two emotions from all out bawling.
jcr89 I always cry at the end 😩
I just noticed some serious character development with Effie. Her singing this is symbolic of how her dream was stolen from her. It was her character reclaiming what she lost. Also notice how the first time they performed this, Beyoncé sang lead and all the good parts while Effie and Laurel sang in unison in order to be as invisible as possible. But in this, they do HARMONY. Representing the end of the conflict for everyone. And everyone had as chance to do their little runs and rifts at the end. THIS right here is a story y'all. Such a plot. That's why Dreamgirls will remain my favorite musical.
Yaas!!! Come through with the analysis!!
+Katherina Thompson 😂😂
+Shady Tyrell I watch the move time than I can count. I'm with you it is my all time favorite.
The show did win the Tony for Best Book and it's easy to see why.
come on movie analysis. IM HERE FOR IT
Curtis Taylor Jr, when it comes to 8-year-old Magic White... YOU _ARE_ THE FATHER!!
i read that in Maurys voice omg XDD
halley martin Now Effie is asking for back child support but she has to share custody with Curtis.
halley martin Me too! XD
i just loved his face when he saw her on the balcony
See thats why I think he is Effy victum. He had a right to know that for ten years
Him realizing the mistake he had by destroying the woman who loved him and missing out on that beautiful girls life.
Gets me every time.
He couldnt say a thing!!
I always cry at the end. And then I get mad because I wanna know what happens when he finds out about his daughter
Right
+Lauryn Prescott same
+Lauryn Prescott Me2!!! Tear up every time! smh
+Lauryn Prescott probably did like berry gordy when he found out that diana ross' child was his, lol. Dream girls is really the story of motown
dream girls 2
Anika noni rose is so gifted yet underrated, outstanding actress, singer, broadway star, dancer, the list is endless
you are so right, because she was killing that 1st soprano
jael FACTSSS
jael Right. She Held That Soprano Note Really Long, That's One Thing She Did Do And She Did It With Perfection👑🔥
I also loved her as Tiana in The Princess amd the Frog. Now THAT is a Disney film that needs to be expanded upon and adapted into a Broadway show!!! ^_^
And then she became a princess ❤
Can we take a moment to appreciate Anika Noni Rose's soprano when they sing "We''ll be THERE" WOw, she really goes THERE!! She riches THERE! 01:28
YEEEESSSSS GOD!!!!!!!!!! They hear JHud belting out her note but they don't hear the fullness of that Soprano!!!!!!!!!!! They need to listen!!!!
+jpurify08 right, she really did a good job in strengthen a harmony, in most of their songs actually; her suprano is quite unique.
Yes yes yes
***** didn't know, I just called it the "There" note.. lol
Knowing that it's Anika Noni Rose that rounds this out with that note gives this new life for me. Thank you.
DO YALL HEAR ANIKA SINGING THE HIGH NOTE IN THE BACKGROUND!! WTF
Princess Tiana and Nala in the lion king on broadway
What always makes me cry in this scene is Magic's perspective. Seeing my mum up on stage looking so happy and glamorous, finally getting the credit and attention her talent deserves.
The singers, specifically Effie was outstanding, but who else thinks the drummer and the pianist were slaying?
Oh, most definitely.
The entire orchestra is extraordinary here.
lol yes…..musicians never get the credit they deserve
Lemon meringue Ain't that the truth
There is no drummer in there it was recorded...
@@charmainerideifaulkerson5997 It takes musicians to record music.
I absolutely love how Deena, Lorell & Michelle all wore the same outfit but Effie could finally stand out in a sheer gold outfit so she won’t be just the background singer and be overlooked.
Curtis acting like Effie supposed to be singing to him lol but she only had eyes for their daughter
kpixyheartsMJ4Ever. But Effie Dont Even want him anymore becuse what he had done to her and that is y she is strong. Up to this day because we never know know what going to happen in our life style
My favorite part of Dreamgirls is this scene....when Effie's daughter is so proud of her mother she cries- tears of joy. I love this movie.
This scene always makes me smirk and say "take that Curtis!"
Those notes at the end gives me chills. You really don't hear music being sung like that in R&B, you have to go into Gospel and get that taste of real singing.
Marcus Bernard King you are so right... I was raised in the Church, I know some Gospel music when I hear it. Those ladies took that ending to church.🙏🏾
@@tjenks7650 It would be awesome if those gospel notes were sung in rock music. Like Janis Joplin did for example.
No old r&b
I agree it gave goosebumps
I'm convinced Anika Rose was the only background vocals for this track. Her voice is so amazing
that lil girl just gave me life
I know right , just seeing her momma happy again damn!!
That aggressive clap by her brother and her daughter's tears always gets me 😢
I'm not crying. You're crying.
Can't even hear Beyoncé or the other girl at the end ...Jennifer & Anika blew them away 😂
Dorsey Doll you actually can hear beyoncé’s tembre, she’s singing very low.
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
sharon curry 😂☠️😂☠️😂☠️
Anika just damn danced circles all over their heads. If you go back she went in LOL
Sharon Leal
This scene always give me the chills. They killed it. And Anika hitting those soprano notes is everything!!!!
That moment when you realize that you've been both a cruel monster and a deadbeat dad!
Not to forget about being involved with the mafia.
Such a powerful scene. Curtis's realization that he had a daughter for all these years hit home by Jennifer Hudson's vocal performance.
I can't help watching this over and over. It's such a beautiful scene
Agree
Don't feel bad, me too😂😂😂😂❤
Over a decade later and I’m just now realizing Effie had the most passion in this song, because of what she had gone through. Not only that, but she had someone that she had shared true love with- her daughter. The song was always meant for her. It’s a testimony of survival. To find your self beyond the glamour of superficial appraise . Effie fulfilled the songs tue purpose and intent. To influence the life of someone who sees you as a dream. Her daughter viewed her as something unreal, unmatched. The other three group members having way more notoriety than her mother, but Effie being the main focal point. She’s truly famous in her daughter eyes. Wtf *drunk crying*
They completely SLAYED this song!! Bey, J Hud, Anika, & Sharon blend together so well! It's sounds as if they really had been singing together for years. Amazing! And is that Anika hitting that really high note from 1:29-1:53?
Jamaya Jones had to listen again, yes it was! lol
Yes!!!! I'm like who is hitting that note!! That note alone just made me pause and rewind like 5 time. They killed ALL of them
Anika's A5s and that C#6 are just ❤️❤️❤️
Yes she killed on the back end with Jenifer Hudson
this part always makes me cry
me to
Tiny Ice me too
Rolanda Love right
Tiny Ice same
That lil girl acting was top notch! To express that much emotion in ALL of her scenes , was the cherry on top of Effie story arc!
Anyone with a heart felt some type of emotional response whenever she was on the screen.
the little girl gets me crying every time
Though Curtis would NEVER admit it out loud that could've been the moment were he realized he had been a 1st class asshole to Effie with little regard to what could have been going on with her all those years ago.....
1st class asshole😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
oops !🤣
True
Love
Im glad Aretha Franklin wants Jennifer Hudson to play her in her autobiography movie ❤️❤️❤️
Anika's soprano on the harmony tho.... so pretty. I LOVE THIS SCENE... so beautiful musically and emotionally...
Anika is KILLLLING those top notes
Anika belting out them highs in the background gives me goosebumps everytime
you know you start to tear up when bey says "you know there aren't 3 dreams, there are 4" and the camera pans back to reveal effie entering the stage... you've officially lost it and broke down into a sobbing mess of happy tears
To me the ending signifies what Curtis realized he should have had. Do y'all hear the crowd coming up and cheering with Effie as the lead? Imagine if he would have kept her as the lead in the first place and never put Deena. They would have still sounded good and to me that final look is him seeing the girl is his daughter and what the hell he missed. I love this movie so much the play is coming to my city and I'm definitely going to see it.
I think Beyonce and Jennifer's performance of Dreamgirls were both special in their own special ways.
oscar tran CV CV
Anika Rose has such a beautiful voice. Those soprano notes give me life.
Teared up! And the little girl proud of her mama makes me burst lol great performances and movie
Jennifer Hudson gave me LIFE during this performance................... UGHHHH!!! I freaking love this woman! You KNOW you talented when you outshine Beyoncé in a movie!!!
Well Jennifer was the main character...and Beyonce really isn't that much of an actor lol
Man, I said the same thing. I knew I wasn't the only one, out shined throughout the whole movie.
+cassiuswatt Then why did she win an Oscar for Best SUPPORTING actress?
+Raydoffa Braziel Because the studio didn't want to acknowledge JHud in the Best Actress category with Beyonce, but it backfired since Bey didn't get an Academy nomination.
I didn't even know that she was a supporting actress until the nomination. I thought she was a main character
All four of these ladies can sing.....the harmonies are so on point that it's crazy! If they had a group, everyone would have to drop out of the music industry...lol
This is still the most beautiful finale I've ever seen. Between the music, the lighting change, and the glitter, I don't think anything will ever beat this one lol
I love watching this end scene. My favorite part is hearing Anika Noni Rose with the magnificent riff at 1:33 She has such a gorgeous voice. She kills ALL those high soprano notes!
This scene always gives me chills. Effie sang her heart out!
Anika and those soprano notes!!!!
Beyoncé is absolutely an amazing singer I'm not comparing but if I had to choose who was the Star of this movie it was absolutely Jennifer Hudson. Her voice, her acting and her power made this movie unbelievable and one of my top 5. I believe this movie wouldn't have nearly been this successful without Jennifer. And it was her Debut Movie, Amazing Job Jennifer!
elas imitam as supreme no filme é ?
totally agree 100%
Danielle Speller yea
Neto Costa Sim, a história de dreamgirls é baseada na história das supremes e da motown
Valeu!!!
Can we just take a moment to appreciate Anika Nina Rose(Lorrell) absolutely killing it with them belts on the “We’ll be thereeee”,esp on the last 2 😍😍😍 I think she’s belting an A5(someone with a good ear correct me if I’m wrong please)
When Jennifer Hudson sings, she looks like the most beautiful person in the world to me.
Damn who was that other high ass voice belting with Jennifer at the end? She was slaying my whole existence.
PetroleumJellay That was Anika
PetroleumJellay Anika was giving life
That was anika. And I know right she was so overlooked but she’s a great singer
Anika Noni Rose...She was killing it with those soprano vocals❤️
Lmao! I still laugh to this day about how fast Curtis got down to the second level to look at that little girl. He went with a quickness!! XD
The way she sang "there" at 1:48 straight to Jamie Foxx's face still gives me chills.
The lil girl in the end make you cry every time
When Curtis was looking at his daughter and realized that was his child that really made me emotional.
THAT HARMONY AT THE END SEALS THE MOVIE PERFECTLY. THAT IS FROM THE SOUL!
Jennifer voice is powerful
Can we take a moment to appreciate Anika Noni Rose's soprano when they sing "We''ll be THERE" WOw, she really goes THERE!! She riches THERE! 01:37 However, you need to have a good ear to decipher voices when groups are singing harmonies (nothing special)
this entire time i thought it was Beyonce
I have been contemplating about that note. Amazing!
are you serious? jennifer and beyonce sound nothing alike!
Yes, it's definitely at the th-cam.com/video/zZK_bkxhJes/w-d-xo.htmlm37s mark. You have to listen though because you still hear Jennifer belting out and the cymbals clash together in the music just when Anika hits that note. Anyway, beautiful voice. Thanks for pointing that out.
Amen amen, that got my vocal senses tingling
They were all so beautiful in this performance.
Tears came out of my eyes watching this part, the singing n the father seeing his daughter for the first time
Years later and this scene still holds up. They all sounded amazing. The 4 part harmony at 2:00 is my favorite. Anika, Sharon, Beyonce,& Jennifer had an amazing blend. I wish they did more music together...
I turned 25 in 2006 when this movie came out
❤ mines too 🔥😍😍😍😍
Jennifer Hudson sent "Be-e-e-e-e-e-eee" @1:22 straight to the heavens!!!
wen Jen. first says "And all you have to do is dream" n the instruments get louder.......my fave part👑👌😊😍😍😍
It took everything in me not to break down sobbing because I'm having company in like 5 minutes but goddamn this movie deserves a million rewatches. Hudson will never NOT blow me away.
That damn harmony..... I love them high notes Good Lawd 🙌🏽🙌🏽
When I tell you this song gets me EVERYTIME!!!! Everyone did their thing, but my standouts were Jennifer and that run at 1:24 and Anika with that soprano at 1:28!!!!
Beyonce finally felt what Kelly Rowland felt for years.
Good one.
Kelly don't you mean michelle
Not a great analogy.
Kelly didn't have it as bad as Effie. While Beyonce; flew in a private gold jet to Jamaica, she did pay for a coach ticket on Virgin Airlines for Kelly, and Kelly was allowed to stay in the guest house.
Michelle on the other hand had to take a kayak to Jamaica and had to check out of the hostel by 10am the next morning.
+Jacob Alexander 😂😂😂😂
my lawd lmbo
i love this movie, and the play too, they are both good. Jennifer Hudson is a Dreamgirl she went from auditioning for American Idol ending in 7th place to a movie star with an academy award. for the people who made this movie thanks for choosing Jennifer as the unforgettable Effie White. Keep dreamin JH.
Kay Bateman just goes to show, losing American Idol doesn't mean it's the end of your career
that scene was my favorite....watching her mama sing and so proud of her...made me cry!
I would have liked to see how that played out backstage with Curtis & Effie.. telling him and introducing Magic to her father.
Anyone else replay this everytime 🤧🤧😢😢🙌
👍
Every time 😭
I love this movie and I love all of the actors, but on a personal note, I think Jennifer Hudson stole every scene with perfection (not to say that Anika Noni Rose and Beyonce didn't do well though because they were excellent as well).
protectorofillinois3 that's because Beyonce is a horrible actress
Well just like the original broadway cast Jennifer Holliday stole every scene and basically the whole show with her vocal and acting abilities
protectorofillinois3 Jennifer Hudson really made this movie and I'm a big Beyonce fan but Jennifer Hudson sings better and has a better vocal range than Beyonce because like Curtis said her voice is too common that's y Beyonce made it all these years based off unoriginality and image because of today's society💯💯
Breyanna E lol you calling yourself a Beyoncé Fan, and discrediting her success, reducing her to a Common Voice ( words Said to jenna the fuc**** role she played) ohhh and If you were really a fan would know that Beyonce has a better vocal range André technique than Jennifer.
I always thought Jennifer Hudson was better than Beyonce, she's just overrated
Effie did say, "I've got the voice Curtis, I've got the voice". LoL
I can't look at this scene without crying
This is for the ppl who said Jhud couldn’t sing 👑👏🏾. Anika gave me LIFE with that 1st Soprano. She did that and did it with PERFECTION🔥
Lawd When Jennifer Hudson sings Never, Never, Never, Never Never Leave you at 1:04 I lose it every time. The woman can sang!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The way effie looked at magic is the reason i want a daughter
had to come back to this video after seeing a tweet on twitter. Got me crying again
This scene happened in real life. Florence Ballard joined The Supremes on stage before she passed away in 1975
This is PERFECT HARMONY ALL THE WAY THROUGH #ClassicScene
the minute the glitter exploded, i burst into tears.
01:47-01:51 Effie looking at Curtis and her daughter singing "Yeah" 😂
This rendition is beautiful . . . . .
Jennifer Hudson was awesome .
gosh.. they harmonized the heck out of that song!!!
The little run Beyonce does at the last two "There"s make me so happy
Eh Beyoncé was a Michelle in this performance
+_Chanels Wondaaland_ LMAO
My favorite part, hands down. something about this performance always gets my eyes tearing up
my favorite is hard to say goodbye and this one
I can never watch this part without tearing up, awwww I bet he thought she was singing to a dude or something why he bein all nosey. The look on his face when he realizes who magic is #priceless
Curtis yu jerk! Lol
Love Dreamgirls!! This ending is one of the best endings ever! That look on his face, no amount of money can capture that! Awesome, just and excellent movie! Everyone was was great and should had one an Oscar!!
There are certain movies that does not need to be made into a sequel and DreamGirls is one of them. It's perfect
Anika’s backing vocal is drowning out Beyonce. I only hear her. I love it
Always makes me choke up man that was a powerful ending
Jennifer Hudson was singing it’s like she was singing yessss to him that’s your baby lol
jaime's face was priceless!
His face when he pieced 2 and 2 together with the little girl lol
Looking in that little girl's face had me crying... And just the song in general...Effie finally got her due!!!
The intro just gave me hella chills!
Bree Harrison cuz the intro alone reminds your ears of what’s to come 🤣🙌🏾
One of the best movie endings EVER!
His face at the end when he realised what he missed out on and what incridble goodess she is!!!! Effie is such a powerful women.
There needs to be a dreamgirls 2🔥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥🔥
Hell yes but what would be the storyline?
it could be that magic(effies daughter) is growing up and how curtis has no money coz the dreams left him and now he's trying to get them back. And effie could find a new man to take care of her and magic curtis could get jelous. i dont they're just ideas. i wish i could contact the writer of dreamgirls somehow. i might look into that actually. if that could actually happen i mean like incorpirate the dreamgirls fans ideas the film would be 10 times better.
MrSwaggmaster14 DREAMBOYS ROFL
WhoReallyCares... Lmao, I would most definitely watch that!!
The way Jamie Foxx head turned when he spotted out sho Effie was looking at 😂😂😂
yes Anika dammit with that soprano
