I was 14 when I saw this on VHS and I'm 43 now. Lauren Hill singing the gospel song solo with the woman signing it behind her is one of the most beautiful things I'll ever see in my life. It was hard being a Christian teen and you have no idea how good this made me feel.

Imagine losing to a school that only joined the competition a few weeks earlier after just forming at a school that was known to be close to closing. Not to mention you find out their choir director is a nun who is actually a Vegas headliner who became famous because she was in a protection from ex boyfriend was a Mob Boss and while in hiding formed a successful girl group at a convent.

Interesting you say this…Whoppi is trying really hard to put together Sister Act 3 as she’s been wanting it for years. I know she asked Maggie to be a part of it but I’m not sure if she agreed or not. Just have to wait and see.
This movie was a great example of showcasing color, ethnicity, true diversity just rocking together….and I love how it was done without talking about it and with just living it in the moment. God I miss the 90s. Plus, it wasn’t about thotting, sexuality, etc…. just talent, hard work, building character, standing up for the greater good, AND CELEBRATING VIBES with it!!!

Lauryn's voice was heavenly! She had such a mature sound at a young age. I remember performing this in the chorus at my middle school. The lead singer had nothing on Lauryn.
There are so many people that can sing...many can sing well...and then others are just blessed with talent on a whole other level. Lauryn is one of those individuals. Much like Whitney(RIP) & Mariah... some are just blessed with more. Not to mention her rap game was pretty dope too.
I also sang this in choir in middle school. 😅 We actually competed with it a couple times.

I use to sing in my church choir back in the 90s and we made several concerts like that. It was super fun but a lot of work and rehearsal. We even got the chance to do some set designing on one. It was super fun. I really miss those days. And now u can't even be close to anyone with the coronavirus so sad.

So, Lauryn's runs. I remember, as a child, NO JOKE, asking my dad, who's a vocal coach: "Daddy, can I ever learn how to do that?" And he, as a responsible parent and coach, just told me: "Well, you can learn how to do all sorts of beautiful things wth yr voice. But... Not that. No. Sorry. To do that, yr birth certificate would have to read 'Lauryn Hill'" lol I'm thankful for his honesty rly.

But the particular articulation between those notes, the "sliding" motion of the arpeggios, which to me sounds almost like the tactile tension between small magnets when you move them near one another, is exclusive to Lauryn Hill's vocal tract and capacity (3:22 ). I mean, among all of the singers I've ever heard. That's precisely what my father and I were both referring to.
It would actually require drawing to explain clearly what I mean about the exclusiveness of Lauryn's motion between notes in a melisma.

Made the mistake of nostalgically watching this when it randomly popped in my YT feed, and I've since had this damn song stuck in my head for over a week... Sister Act 2 didn't quite reach the heights of the first film, but the musical scenes were put together amazingly well.
Know what you mean... Love this performance, but I had Salve Regina stuck in my head for weeks after I watched the clip nostalgically on YT, and being overheard singing Latin phrases to myself got me some strange looks!
